Recipe video above. This is a bread loaf made without yeast or any other non-standard pantry ingredients. It&#039;s as close as you will get to real bread made with yeast! It has a proper crumb like real bread and it&#039;s sliceable, rather than being &quot;muffin-like&quot; which many no-yeast breads are. Loosely based on Damper, a traditional Australian bread historically made by swagmen and drovers over campfire (except I&#039;ve brought it into the 21st century!) Toggle for METRIC (weights).

Sandwich Bread WITHOUT Yeast! (Dead easy)

flour (, plain/all purpose (Note 1))

tsp baking powder ((Note 2))

tsp white sugar

tsp salt

milk (, warmed (any - Note 3))

Preheat oven to 220°C/430°F (200°C fan).

Grease a 22 x 13 cm / 9 x 5&quot; loaf pan, then line with parchment/baking paper with overhang (to lift out).

Mix dry: Place flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in a bowl, mix to combine.

Add wet: Make a well in the centre, pour in oil and milk. Mix until flour is fully incorporated - batter will be thick but stirrable.

Fill pan: Scrape into loaf pan, using a rubber spatula to scrape the bowl clean and smooth the surface.

Bake 30 minutes. Remove from oven, cover with foil.

Return to oven. Turn oven DOWN to 200°C/390°F (180°C fan), bake 20 minutes.

Remove from oven. Cool in pan 5 minutes, then use excess paper to lift out and transfer to cooling rack.

Cool completely before slicing - 45 minutes+. It IS more delicate than yeast breads (can&#039;t change science!) but slices far better than the usual &quot;cake like&quot; no yeast breads. Slices perfectly on Day 2 and beyond.

Use for sandwiches, toast, grilled cheese, french toast, bread and butter pudding - anything you use &quot;real&quot; sandwich bread for!

No Yeast Bread Recipe (Oven/Crockpot)

all-purpose flour

sugar ((OPTIONAL if you prefer a bread that

tsp baking soda

TBSP baking powder

Parmesan cheese ((OPTIONAL))

rosemary (chopped (OPTIONAL))

egg (at room temperature)

unsalted butter

buttermilk ((see substitutions on the notes)

In a mixing bowl, mix together flour, salt, sugar, baking soda, and baking powder.  If you’d desired, stir in Parmesan and rosemary. Whisk egg on the side of the bowl and combine with softened butter. It will be crumbly at first. Then quickly stir in buttermilk, mixing just enough to form a homogeneous dough.

Transfer to a lightly floured surface and quickly knead for 5 to 8 times maximum. Shape into a flat round or oval shape! Score an X on the top center (about ¼-inch deep if baking or 1/3-inch deep if cooking bread in the slow cooker). Transfer right away to either a baking sheet or cast iron skillet lined with parchment paper, or to a lined slow cooker.

IF COOKING IN THE CROCKPOT: Brush bread with buttermilk and cook on high for 2 ½ hours, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. For a browned crust, brush crockpot bread with olive oil or melted butter and then broil bread on the middle rack of the oven on top of a lined baking sheet for 3-5 minutes or until lightly brown.  

IF BAKING: Bake in a preheated oven at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for about 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean and the top has browned. For a moist and softer crust, brush bread with extra buttermilk before baking and also every 20 minutes while baking.

How to make an easy No-Yeast Bread Recipe!  This is a simple variation of traditional Irish Soda Bread that uses baking soda and buttermilk (or my easy buttermilk substitute) to make a single loaf of bread. Only 6 ingredients needed, no mixer, and minimal kneading! 

No Yeast Bread (Soda Bread)

all-purpose flour ((405 grams))

Tablespoons sugar

baking soda

salt

buttermilk ((354 milliliters))

olive oil

Preheat oven to 400F (205C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.

Make a well in the center and add 1 cup of buttermilk and olive oil. Whisk together in the well and gradually stir into the flour mixture. Add remaining buttermilk as needed until dough clings together and you have a shaggy dough.

Transfer to a clean, lightly floured surface and briefly knead dough several times (don’t over-do it) and form dough into a round ball. It will be a bit shaggy and a bit sticky. Transfer to prepared baking sheet and lightly flatten with your hands. Use a sharp knife to score a deep (about halfway into the center of the bread) “X” into the top center of the bread.

Transfer to 400F (205C) oven and bake  for 35-40 minutes and bread sounds hollow when tapped.

Allow to cool then slice and enjoy.

This easy No Yeast Bread is perfect when you don&#039;t have time for a traditional yeast bread or you don&#039;t have any yeast. It&#039;s delicious plain or even toasted. No need to live without bread!

Homemade Rustic No Yeast Bread

all purpose flour ((250 grams))

sugar

baking powder

water (lukewarm no-chlorine)* ((175 grams))

Pre-heat oven to 425F (220C). Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. Then add the water and mix together, either with a fork or spatula.Sprinkle a flat surface with a little flour, place the dough on top and gently knead for a minute or two until smooth. Gently flatten the dough into a small rectangle with the palm of your hand and fold it like an envelope. Sprinkle with flour if needed.Then form into your preferred loaf shape, score the top and place on prepared cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes then lower the temperature to 350F (180C) for another 10 minutes.Let cool on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy!
