Cabbage Stew

cabbage

avocado oil

onion

garlic

celery

potatoes

Italian seasoning

garlic powder

Over medium-high heat up the oil in a large saucepan

Add onion and cook until soft, about 2 minutes.

Stir in garlic, and celery and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Add cabbage, potatoes, carrots, Italian seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, bouillon cubes, and water.

Cover the saucepan and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to simmer for about 15-20 minutes.

Mash some of the potatoes to help to thicken the stew. Check seasoning, add salt to taste

Cabbage Soup

olive oil

celery (diced)

carrots (finely diced)

broccoli

thyme

tsp cumin

tsp smoked paprika

Black pepper and red pepper flakes (to taste)

bay leaves

(15-oz) cans chopped tomatoes (with basil (or fire-roasted tomatoes))

tomato paste

vegetable broth

lentils (rinsed (see notes))

½ large green or white cabbage (shredded)

lime ((or half a lemon))

Parsley (for garnish)

You can watch the video in the post for visual instructions.First, dice the onion and celery, finely dice the carrots, chop the broccoli into small florets, mince the garlic, and shred the cabbage into ¼-inch (0.6 cm) shreds.

Heat the oil in a large soup pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Once hot, add the onion, celery, carrots, and broccoli. Sauté for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Mix in garlic, thyme, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes, and cook for a further minute.

Next, add the bay leaves, chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, vegetable broth, and lentils. Stir to combine, then cover the pot, and bring the soup to a boil.

Once boiling, reduce the heat to a gentle simmer. Add the cabbage (in batches, as it requires time to wilt), then cover and cook it for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. The soup is ready when all the vegetables and lentils are tender.

Finally, stir in the lime juice and give it a final taste, adjusting the seasonings if preferred. Then, enjoy a bowl of this healthy cabbage soup immediately while warm!

Cabbage Soup Recipe (Not Just For Weight Loss)

A comforting and tasty stew with cabbage and ground beef (minced meat)

Kapuska (Turkish Cabbage Stew)

onion, diced

250 g (1/2 pound) ground beef

garlic, chopped

salt

cumin

black pepper

paprika

red pepper flakes (or crushed chili)

450 g (1 pound) white cabbage,

lemon juice

Parsley

Heat oil in a pan and cook the onions until translucent. 

Add in the ground beef and cook it, breaking down the blocks with a spoon. Let it first release its juice and then absorb it. 

Add in tomato paste, garlic and ¼ cup water. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. 

Season with salt, black pepper, cumin, paprika and red pepper flakes. 

Add in roughly chopped cabbage and lemon juice. Cook covered for 5 minutes, stirring a few times. 

Add in hot water and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer covered for 20 minutes. It will be like a thick soup. You can add extra water if needed.

Remove from heat and garnish with chopped parsley.

This is such a dreamy recipe. I can only imagine how yummy it is with a cup of cacik. And these photos.. They take my breath away and make me very hungry.

Mmm I just made this tonight I had all the ingredients and was looking for more creative ways to eat the remaining part of my cabbage. Wow what a flavor bomb! Reminded me a little of chili. Add a smoky flavor by sprinkling on a little smoked salt or Liquid Smoke just before serving.

Irish White Bean and Cabbage Stew

garlic (minced)

carrots (sliced)

pearled barley (optional or substitute with gluten-free grain)

bay leaf

caraway seeds

rosemary (crushed)

cooked great northern beans ((2 cans, drained))

tomatoes

Crock Pot:Place the vegetables, seasonings, and barley into a large (at least 5 quart) slow cooker. Add enough vegetable broth to just cover the vegetables (start with 6 cups and add more as needed). Cover and cook on low heat for 7 hours. Add beans, tomatoes, parsley, and salt to taste. Check seasonings and add more herbs if necessary. Cover and cook for another hour.

Stovetop:Place vegetables, seasonings, barley, and broth into a large stockpot. Cover and simmer until vegetables are tender, about 45 minutes. Add remaining ingredients, check seasonings, and add more herbs if necessary. Simmer uncovered for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Instant Pot: Using an 8-quart Instant Pot, place vegetables, seasonings, barley, and 6 cups broth into the pot, seal the cooker, and set the timer to 12 minutes at high pressure.  Once done, allow the pressure to come down naturally for 15 minutes and then quick release. Add the beans, tomatoes, parsley, salt to taste as well as extra seasonings (very important as the Instant Pot leaches out flavor of herbs.) Simmer for 15-30 minutes using the Saute setting on low.
