My cheesy chips recipe is a treat that&#039;s just as tasty as the chip shop version, and a lot lower in calories!

Easy Cheesy Chips

250 g oven chips

tsp cornflour

ml milk

70 g cheddar cheese (grated)

¼ tsp turmeric (optional)

garlic powder (optional)

Dijon mustard (optional)

Cook the oven chips according to the instructions.

Put the cornflour into a small bowl, add a splash of milk and mix until you have a smooth paste. 

Put the rest of the milk and grated cheese in a saucepan. Heat gently until the cheese has melted.  

Add the cornstarch mixture, and the mustard, garlic powder and turmeric. Carry on cooking, stirring all the time, and the mixture will thicken.

To make a thicker sauce, make a little more cornflour paste in a small bowl and stir in to the pan.  DO NOT add cornflour directly to the hot sauce as it will clump and you will never get the lumps out. 

The cheese sauce is ready when it is thick and glossy, and coats the back of a spoon. Serve immediately, or if chips need a little longer, reheat when you are ready.

Transfer the chips to a serving dish and pour over the cheese sauce. Serve and enjoy!

Make this British chip shop classic at home

Cheesy Chips

Homemade Cheesy Chips recipe loaded with crispy fried chips/fries and creamy cheddar cheese sauce. Incredibly delicious and easy to make at home with a handful of cupboard-friendly ingredients.

¼ tsp Black pepper (or pepper to taste)

(or salt

tbsp Corn starch (or potato starch)

250 ml Milk (Whole milk

150 g Mature Chedder (About 5 ounces, grated)

tbsp Butter (Unsalted butter)

tbsp Plain flour (All-purpose flour or corn flour)

¼ tsp Garlic granules (or garlic powder

Parsley (Finely chopped

Peel and cut the potatoes into ½ inch thick long sticks. ( Or desire chip shape. )

Place them in the cold water for 5 minutes, rinse and drain the water out.

Then boil the potatoes in the hot boiling water for 3-4 minutes. Remove from water and let it cool down over the clean cloth or paper towel.

Once the potatoes are cool and dry, place them in a large bowl and toss them with corn starch. Toss the excess flour out before frying.

Heat the vegetable oil to medium-high heat about 330°F and fry the chips for 4-5 minutes. Remove from oil and set it aside for 8-10 minutes. ( Meanwhile, you can prepare the cheese sauce. )

Then reheat the oil to high heat about 350°F and add the single fried chips. Fry 2-3 minutes or until crispy.  Remove from oil and place the chips over the paper towel.

How to make homemade chips

Heat the pan into low-medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter. Once the butter is melted add the plain flour and stir it well for 1-2 minutes.

Next, pour the milk gradually and stir it well until the sauce is creamy.

Now add the grated cheese and stir gently until the sauce is glossy.

Make Cheese Sauce

To serve, add the fried chips to the serving plate. Sprinkle salt and pepper to your taste. Pour the cheese sauce over the fried chips and sprinkle chopped parsley for a garnish.

Cheesy Chips (Bacon and Cheese Loaded Fries)

Frozen Oven Chips (Any type

Bacon Lardons

Grated Mozzarella Or Cheddar Cheese

tbsp Chives ((optional))

Salt & Black Pepper (to season)

Spread

Spread the chips or fries on a baking tray in a single layer

Cook

Cook the oven chips as stated on the packaging/recipe

Meanwhile, fry the bacon lardons until crispy

Cheese

Once cooked, remove chips from the oven and sprinkle with mozzarella or cheddar and add crispy bacon lardons.

Melt

Cook in the oven for an additional 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Chop

Season

Sprinkle with chives, salt &amp; pepper and serve hot!
