Instant Pot Chicken Teriyaki Bowls

chicken breasts

salt and black pepper (, to taste)

garlic powder

ginger

teriyaki sauce (, divided)

chicken broth ((or water))

sesame oil (,

bell peppers (, chopped)

broccoli

sesame seeds

green onion (, chopped)

sriracha hot sauce ((or crushed red pepper flakes))

DISCLAIMER: I developed and tested this recipe in my 6-QUART INSTANT POT DUO. If you’re using a larger IP or a newer brand you may need to add more liquid so that you don’t get a burn notice. (The new IP are much more sensitive).&nbsp; Not all instant pot recipes work perfectly for all types of instant pots.&nbsp; See this article for more information on adapting recipes for your instant pot.

Rinse rice with water until water runs clear.

Add rice and 1 1/2 cups water (or chicken broth) to the bottom of the instant pot.  Spread into a single layer, making sure the rice is covered with water.&nbsp;

Season chicken breast on all sides with salt and pepper, garlic powder and ground ginger. Add chicken to instant pot, nestling it on top of the rice.&nbsp;

Pour 1/4 cup of teriyaki sauce over chicken breast. Secure the lid, and set the valve to sealing.

Cook on manual or pressure cook,  high pressure, for 4 minutes (IF using a THICK chicken breast, cook for 6-8 minutes high pressure).

Once the Instant Pot timer beeps, allow the pressure cooker to release naturally for 10 minutes., then quick release the remaining pressure.

While the mixture cooks, heat oil in a large skillet. Once hot, add chopped vegetables and sauté until tender. Add a few spoonfuls of teriyaki sauce to the vegetables and toss to coat.

Open instant pot lid and remove chicken to a cutting board to rest for 5 minutes. Fluff rice with a fork.&nbsp;

Chop chicken, against the grain and add it and the vegetables back to the pot with the rice.&nbsp;

Spoon servings into bowls and top with desired amount of teriyaki sauce.&nbsp;

Garnish with sesame seeds, green onions, and sriracha hot sauce or crushed red pepper flakes, if desired.

TERRIBLE! Far to salty due to the vinegar! I recommend using a different recipe!

Delicious! Tweaked a few ingredients a bit: less honey, added brown sugar to sauce, less ginger, and added some carrots. Thanks for the inspiration👍🏻

Unfortunately, one star.  Sauce is terribly overpowering.  Even serving with a lot of rice didn't tone it down enough.

Well, it wasn't horrible,  but I wish I wouldn't have added that much ginger. I would suggest maybe like half or even less.

Made this for dinner, cut half the ginger, it was fantastic, will make this again.

Omg it tastes terrible I’m sorry but the amount of ginger and vinegar is way to much for the recipe, it’s as if I’m only eating chicken with vinegar & ginger nothing else matter. 

I think you guys need to rewrite the ingredients or remove it because this such waste of food and time

Pretty good....halve the ginger, add a tbls of brown sugar....maybe double the honey.

This Teriyaki Chicken Let's You Finally Kick Your Take-Out Habit

How to make quick and easy Japanese Teriyaki Chicken! Crispy pan fried chicken thigh coated in a sweet and delicious homemade teriyaki sauce!

Authentic Crispy Japanese Teriyaki Chicken

(1/2 lb) chicken thigh

salt

tbsp potato starch

soy sauce

mirin

tbsp sake

brown sugar

tbsp liquid dashi (or water)

tsp honey

First, place the chicken thigh on a chopping board with the underneath facing up (skin-side down) and make horizontal incisions on the thickest parts to make small flaps. Pull out the flaps so that the chicken thigh is more or less an even thickness all the way through. 

Flip the chicken over and pierce the skin with a fork all over.

Sprinkle with a pinch of salt on both sides and rub it over.

Thinly coat the underneath with potato starch (or corn starch). Make sure to brush off any excess.

Add the vegetable oil to a cold pan and place the chicken thigh inside with the skin side facing down.

Move the chicken around the pan in a circular motion so that the skin and surface of the pan are evenly coated in oil.

Place the pan on the stove and turn the heat on a medium setting. Fry for 7 minutes, rotating the chicken from time to time to ensure that the skin is evenly browned.

While the chicken is cooking, take a small bowl and add the soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, dashi stock and honey. Mix until the sugar and honey are dissolved.

After 7 minutes have passed, flip the chicken thigh over and fry for 2 minutes on the other side.

Use a paper towel to wipe up excess oil in the pan.

Once 2 minutes have passed turn up the heat to medium high and pour the sauce into the pan.

Scoop up the sauce with a spoon and pour it over the surface of the chicken. Keep spooning the sauce over the chicken until it becomes thick and glossy.

Remove from the heat and rest for a few minutes before cutting it into strips.
