This Christmas Morning Wife Saver is the perfect casserole for Christmas morning made with ham and cheese and topped with cornflakes. Just wake up, bake it and enjoy!

Christmas Morning Wife Saver

bread ((remove crusts if preferred))

ham (thinly

cheddar cheese (sharp, grated)

eggs

tsp black pepper (ground)

dry mustard

chives (chopped)

Worcestershire sauce

hot sauce

milk

butter (melted)

corn flakes cereal (crushed)

Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish or spray with cooking oil.

Cut and fit 5 slices of bread to fit over entire bottom of dish. Depending on the size of your bread and casserole dish you might need more bread.&nbsp; Layer the slices of ham then top with the cheddar cheese. Cut and fit the remaining 5 slices of bread to completely cover the ham and cheese.

In a large bowl whisk together the eggs with the pepper, dry mustard, chives, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce.&nbsp;Add the milk and whisk until well combined. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole.&nbsp;

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight.

The next morning preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

Pour the melted butter evenly over the casserole and sprinkle with the crushed corn flakes over the top.

Bake in the preheated oven until set and lightly browned, about 1 hour. Let casserole stand for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

This was a great way to use up some leftover ham. Halved recipe in 8x8 pan. Just cubed some regular white bread. Added a big handful of baby spinach as the first layer on top of the bread. Baked for 35 minutes.

My little twist. Pit ham and sausage with onion cooked with it. Layer of American sliced cheese and than I use a Mexican blend of shredded cheese. I put parsley flakes on it and also fresh ground pepper and Himalayan salt. I just used what older bread that I had. I put couple of burger buns in it plus older loaf bread.. 
One thing I will do next time is make a meat lovers and that would be add some bacon to it as well. 

Could also take taco meat and make it a fiesta bake. That sounds yummy as well.

One suggestion is if you didn't make it the night before don't turn oven on until you have it prepared. Once it's done turn on oven let it preheat than put it in oven. This will allow eggs to get into bread.

I used sausage and bacon!!!  Added a little onion and sun dried tomatoes.....AWESOME!!!

I made this with a roasted garlic Italian bread, added a teaspoon of paprika,  and only 6 eggs in a 9×13 pan without overnight set. Everything else was the same. It was much better than my former recipe that uses plain white bread and breakfast sausage. We had it for dinner with green beans, everyone loved it!

I added the thyme against my better judgement. I didn't care for the taste with the eggs. Wouldn't make this recipe again.

Turned out GREAT! 

I halved the recipe and cooked it in a 8"×8" dish. I substituted half the milk with heavy cream, added about a 1/2 cup of extra shredded cheese(I used the "Mexican Blend") more than it would have been had I simply halved the recipe, used cubed Multi Grain Bread (it was what I had on hand), added a pinch of Onion Powder and topped it with some sliced green onions. Otherwise, I followed the recipe...which I am sure is AMAZING as written. I just always try to make it my own and put my own spin on things. Great guide!!

This would be delicious with all kinds of ingredients: spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, feta, goat cheese, sausage, bacon, zucchini, broccoli...

Ex. Egg whites, low fat milk, Spinach, Turkey Sausage, Baby Bellas and a low fat cheese with Wheat Bread might make a healthier option.

Prepared for 40 and this dish was very tasty and I used what I had on hand. Which was cayenne pepper, black pepper,  Italian seasoning and cheddar cheese. no salt

Italian Ciabatta Bread Rolls

Flour

Sugar

tsp Active Dry Yeast

Cup Water

& 1/4 Cup All-Purpose Flour,

tbsp Olive Oil,

Salt

Water

For Starter - Mix well - 1 and 1/3 cup all purpose flour, 1 tsp yeast, 1 cup warm water and 1/2 tsp sugar. Cover and leave at room temperature to ferment for at least 4 hours (or until dough doubles in size)

For Dough - Stir the risen starter and let it rest for 5 minutes. In meantime, in a small bowl, add 4 tbsp warm water, 1/2 cup warm milk, 1 tsp sugar, 1 &amp; 1/2 tsp salt, 2 tbsp oil and mix well. Sprinkle yeast over the rested starter. Add milk and oil mixture and 2 cups of all-purpose flour. Mix well. Transfer to a flour dusted board and knead adding 1 tbsp flour at a time until dough comes together. Knead the dough for 5 to 6 minutes. Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl, swirl the dough in bowl to apply oil all over. Cover and leave at warm place to rise for 2 hours (until it triples in size.)

Shape the Dough - Punch the dough, transfer to a floured surface. Gently roll the dough to make a 12 inch rectangle. Divide it in four portions.

Shape the Dough - Sprinkle a baking sheet with 2 tbsp of all-purpose or semolina flour. Shape each half into a small rectangle by folding it like letter (tucking the edges inside). Transfer each folded rectangle to baking sheet, folded ends facing down and place'em in 2 lines, 3-4 inch apart.

Bake - Preheat oven at 425 Fahrenheit. Cover with kitchen towel and let rise at room temperature for 60 minutes (or until almost doubles in size) , then bake for 22-25 minutes or until tops are brown and bottom of rolls sound hollow when taped.

Transfer to a cooling rack. Serve warm or let the bread cool completely, then wrap in plastic wrap and freeze for later. To defrost, I microwave frozen bread for 2 minutes at low power.

These little cakes are filled with all the festive, fruity flavours of this classic German Christmas bake - ideal for Christmas morning or a teatime treat

paper muffin cases (we used tulip cases)

Heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7 and put the muffin cases in a 12-hole muffin tin. Mix the flour, ground almonds, baking powder, bicarb, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, the sugar, marzipan, nuts and dried fruit in a mixing bowl. Whisk together the eggs, melted butter, yogurt and almond extract, then pour over the dry ingredients and very quickly mix with a wooden spoon until the mixture has just come together – the most important thing is to not overmix – don’t worry if there are still a few floury bits.

Quickly divide the mix between the cases and put in the oven on the top shelf. Bake for 5 mins, then lower the heat to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and bake for 15 mins more until they are risen, golden, and a skewer inserted into the middle of them comes out clean.

Once they have cooled a little and are firm enough to handle, lift out of the tin onto wire racks and cool for 5 mins. Mix the icing sugar with the remaining 1/4 tsp cinnamon and sieve over the muffins. Serve warm. Will keep for 3 days in an airtight container.

(227 grams) whole milk

(57 grams) sour cream

(2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast*

(50 grams) granulated sugar

egg, (at room temperature)

egg yolks, (at room temperature)

vanilla extract

(113 grams) unsalted butter, (completely softened to room temperature)

(150 grams) packed light brown sugar

(250 grams) powdered sugar

(57 grams) whole milk

(28 grams) unsalted butter, (melted)

In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter until the butter is melted. Remove from heat and stir in the sour cream until smooth. Let cool until lukewarm** (about 100 - 110°F).

In the bowl of an electric mixer, use a spatula to combine the milk mixture with the yeast, sugar, egg, egg yolks, and vanilla until well combined. Add in half of the flour and the salt and stir until combined. Place on a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook and gradually add the remaining flour until a dough begins to form. Only add as much flour as you need to form the dough. Knead at medium speed until the dough is very soft, smooth, pliable, elastic, and doesn’t stick to the sides of the bowl, about 8 to 10 minutes. If the dough is unbearably sticky, add more flour 1 tablespoon at a time. Only add as much flour as needed to create a smooth dough.

Lightly grease a large bowl. Shape the dough into a ball and place in the greased bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Make the dough:

Once the dough has risen, add filling ingredients to a medium mixing bowl. Beat with a hand-held electric mixer on medium-high until well combined and fluffy, about 3 minutes.

Make the filling:

Punch down the risen dough and turn out onto a lightly floured work surface. Use a rolling pin to shape the dough into a 16x12-inch rectangle, long side facing you.

Spread the filling mixture all over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border at the far edge. Brush the border with water to help seal. Roll the dough up, pulling with your hands to keep it tightly rolled until it’s an even log shape. Press the border to seal. Trim the edges. Lightly flour the roll.

Grease a 13x9-inch baking dish or two 9-inch pie pans. Cut the roll into 12 equal pieces using a sharp knife or unflavored dental floss. Place the rolls cut side up in the prepared baking dish. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Make Ahead: Allow the shaped rolls to rise until they’ve grown in size by about a quarter. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Allow to come completely to room temperature and continue to rise until doubled in size, about 2 hours, before baking as directed below.

Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake the rolls until lightly golden brown, 22 to 25 minutes.

To shape the dough:

While the rolls bake, combine the icing ingredients in a small mixing bowl until a smooth pourable icing forms.

Spread over hot rolls immediately after they come out of the oven. Serve warm the day they’re baked.

I have read the instructions several times and nowhere does it say when to add the sour cream?? Now I’ve got 1/4 cup of room temp sour cream just sitting here because the instructions didn’t have me add it! :(
