How to Cook Crab Legs (4 Easy Ways)

In a medium saucepan melt 4 Tbsp butter and add 2 minced garlic cloves, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/8 tsp black pepper. Stir 30 seconds until fragrant then remove from heat. Off the heat, squeeze in 1/2 Tbsp lemon juice. Divide between ramekins to serve.

How to Make Crab Dipping Sauce:

Place a trivet in a 6 qt Instant Pot and add 1 cup water. Add 3-4 clusters of fresh or frozen crab legs per batch folding the legs to fit more in (thawed are easier to fit than frozen).

Close the lid, set vent to sealing position and cook on manual high pressure 4 minutes then switch vent to venting position and do a quick release* of remaining pressure.

Instant Pot Crab Legs:

Place wire rack or basket at the bottom of a large stockpot. Add 1 cup of water. Place crab legs over the rack (as many as your pot will accommodate). Bring the water to a boil then cover and steam cook until fragrant and steaming hot (5-10 minutes). Frozen crab legs will take longer, thawed crab legs cook faster).

Steamed Cook Crab Legs:

Using heavy-duty aluminum foil, create a foil pack with 4 clusters of crab legs. Using a long sheet of foil with the crab legs in the center, bring the two ends together and fold them together twice. Fold the other two ends together twice to seal the foil packet. Do not add water since it will steam cook with the natural moisture from the crab legs.

Grill over medium/high heat at 450˚F for 15 minutes if frozen or 10 minutes if thawed. Crab legs are ready when you see steaming as you open the foil pack.

Grilled Crab Legs:

Create the same foil pack of 4 crab leg clusters. Place on a baking sheet and onto the center rack of a preheated oven at 450˚F for 25 minutes if frozen or 15 minutes if thawed. The crab legs are ready when you open the foil pack and they are steaming.

These crab legs are steamed to perfection, then tossed in a flavorful garlic butter sauce. A simple, yet satisfying way to enjoy fresh seafood, and it takes just minutes to put together! Crab legs make for a great appetizer or main course option.

Crab Legs with Garlic Butter

Place 3 inches of water in a large, deep pot over medium heat. Bring the water to a boil.

Crack the crab legs with a seafood cracker.

Place the crab legs in the pot and cover.

Cook for 5-7 minutes until crab is heated through. If you have raw crab, cook for 10-12 minutes until flesh is red/orange and opaque.

Drain the crab legs and cover to keep warm.

Fill a large pot half full with water and bring to a boil. Add salt and Old Bay and return to boiling.

While the water comes to a boil, place butter in a small saucepan to melt over medium-low heat. Once the butter starts to foam, after about 1 minute, remove from heat and let stand for 5 minutes while the crab cooks. Use a spoon to remove the milk solids floating on top of the butter. Pour clarified butter into a small bowl.

Add crab legs to pot of boiling water and reduce heat to medium. Simmer for 5 to 6 minutes until fragrant.

Remove crab from the pot and serve immediately. I sprinkle a little more Old Bay over the crab and serve it with lemon wedges and melted butter.

Thaw the crab legs if they are frozen. Using a sharp knife or a pair of a scissors, slice or cut the crab legs into halves to expose the flesh. Arrange them evenly on a baking sheet or tray.

Melt the butter in a microwave, for about 30 seconds. Add the garlic, parsley and lemon juice to the melted butter. Stir to mix well. Drizzle and spread the butter mixture on the crab. Save some for dipping.

Bake the crab legs in the oven for about 5 minutes, or until the crab legs are heated. Serve immediately with the remaining garlic lemon butter and lemon slices. Squeeze some lemon juice on the crab before eating.

Crab with Spicy Garlic Butter Sauce

kg (2.2 pounds) crab

113 g (1 stick) unsalted butter

Wash the cleaned crab a couple of times in cold water and keep it aside.

Bring a pot of water to boil. (Use a pot large enough to hold all the crabs or else cook in two batches)

Once the water boils, add the washed crab, 1 lime, 2 bay leaves, and cook till it turns pink.

Drain and keep aside.

To cook crab:

Melt butter in a heavy-bottomed pot large enough to hold all the crabs.

Turn the heat to medium-low until the butter melts and take care so that the butter doesn't burn.

Add the bay leaves and the garlic and cook till you can smell the aroma of garlic.

Now add the spices (paprika, cayenne, coriander, cinnamon) and stir for a minute to get rid of the raw flavor of spices. Add the vinegar, pepper, and salt. Taste and adjust the flavor if needed. (Be careful when doing so as the butter will be very hot.)

Place the drained crab in a big bowl and add the sauce. Toss it to coat well.utter.

Optional: Add the crabs to the pot with butter sauce. Cover and cook for another 10 minutes, stirring it every five minutes and coating all the crabs with sauce.

Transfer the crabs onto a serving plate. Serve with fresh cut limes and sauce in a bowl.
