Air fryer croutons are the best of both worlds: crispy on the outside, yet slightly soft on the inside. Seasoned with a simple blend of spices, they are ready in under 10 minutes!

Air Fryer Croutons (BEST texture!)

bread

olive oil (note 2)

salt

garlic powder

onion powder

Bread

Prepare bread- Cut your bread into 1 to 1 ½ inch cubes. Day old bread is easier to cut, if you have fresh bread, you may want to tear it using your hands. You&#039;ll need 4 cups of bread cubes for this recipe, which is roughly half of a boule of sourdough.

Season

Season bread cubes- Toss the bread cubes in olive oil until evenly coated, then add the garlic powder, onion powder and salt. Toss well.

Cook

Cook- Pre-heat your air fryer at 400°F/200°C for at least 5 minutes. Add the bread cubes to the basket or tray, and cook for 3-5 minutes*, shaking occasionally. Depending on how closely together your breadcrumbs are positioned, you may need to cook for up to 7-8 minutes.*if you are using an air fryer oven, place the croutons on the lowest tray.

Serve

Serve- Croutons are ready when they are golden brown all over (as shown above). Cool slightly before adding to your salad.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Pull the bread into crouton-y sized chunks.

Combine the olive oil and garlic in a large bowl. Add bread and massage to work the oil in (some of the bread might crumble into tiny pieces, which provides great texture variety). Season thoroughly with salt and lots of pepper.

Bake for about 15 minutes, turning once so they get evenly browned. Cool on paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Garlic Crouton Recipe - Fried Croutons

garlic (smashed)

red pepper flakes

Coat a large saute pan with olive oil. I used approximately 3 tablespoons olive oil, but you can use more if need be.

Add in the garlic and red pepper and cook over medium heat. Cook until transluscent and fragrant, about 3 minutes.

Toss in the bread cubes and stir to coat in the oil and spices.

Continue to cook and stir until the bread is crusty, golden, and fully crisped.

Remove from the heat and allow to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

Can save up to 2 weeks.

Perfect Homemade Sourdough Bread Croutons

olive oil (2-3 tbsp.)

Ground Parmesan or Pecorino cheese,

Salt & black pepper

Evenly arrange the bread cubes on a sheet pan in one single layer. Drizzle with some of the olive oil to coat. Sprinkle with garlic powder, fresh dill, and Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper. 

Toss gently with your hands, adding more olive oil as needed (if it&#8217;s too dry), until the bread is nicely coated.

Bake on the center rack for 20-30 minutes, checking at the 15-minute mark- give it a stir. The croutons are ready when they are crisp and golden brown; total bake time will vary based on size.

Once completely cool, store in an air tight container for up to 1 week.

I've made croutons for years the same way you do above, minus the dill and parmesan.  My kids (now young adults) still crave them.  Whenever we would travel, I'd make a batch and pack small baggies of croutons for them.  The smell of garlic would waft through the airplane cabin making everyone hungry.  It kept them quiet and busy...at least for awhile.

Recipe was great overall! But if you use a small oven that doubles as an air fryer, it will be done by 9 mins, or so I assume. Mines started to burn after 11 mins, so I think 9 mins would be perfect. I think my oven just runs very hot. But still, they were deliciously perfect for my Cesar salad!!

Bread is a staple food prepared from a dough of flour and water, usually by baking. Throughout recorded history it has been popular around the world and is one of the oldest artificial foods, having been of importance since the dawn of agriculture.

Garlic powder is ground, dehydrated garlic. It is a very common seasoning. Applications include pasta, pizza, and grilled chicken. Garlic salt is simply salt plus garlic powder. (Pre-made products usually include an anti-caking agent.) Garlic powder is a common component of spice mix. It is also a common component of seasoned salt.

Black pepper

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

Add bread cubes to a large bowl and drizzle with olive oil. Toss to coat. Sprinkle in Italian seasoning, garlic power, salt and pepper. Toss to coat.

Spread the bread cubes out in a single layer on a baking sheet.

Bake until golden, tossing halfway through, about 15-20 minutes, keeping an eye on them so they don’t burn.

Remove from oven, and let cool.

My family loves these croutons on their salad. Even to just pop them in your mouth the tastes is great! Easy to make and I have used all different types of bread to make them.

These are in the oven and the house smells wonderful!  I have made these before and we loved them.  I use whatever bread needs to be used.  This time it was 2 brioche hamburger buns and 2 slices of white bread.   Thank you for a great recipe!

I’ve made these with many different breads. They are a great way to use up leftover bread from the freezer. They always turn out great.
