Instant Pot Jeera rice or cumin rice is a flavorful side dish made with basmati rice and cumin seeds.

How To Cook Jeera Rice in Instant Pot

Long grain basmati rice

Water

Salt

Ghee

Cumin seeds

Cardamom pods

Cloves

Green chilies (optional)

Bay leaf

First, wash the basmati rice thoroughly in running water for 4 to 5 times or until the water turns clear. Drain and set it aside.

Next, press the u0022Sauteu0022 button on the Instant Pot. Once the display shows u0022Hotu0022, add ghee to it, followed by cumin seeds. Let the cumin seeds splutter, then add bay leaf, sliced green chili, cloves, and green cardamom. Fry for a few seconds.

Then, add the washed basmati rice to the pot and stir it with the spices for 30 seconds.

After that, add water and salt to the pot and give it a quick stir.

Close the Instant Pot lid and press the u0022Manual/Pressure Cooku0022 button. Cook on high pressure for 5 minutes with the pressure valve in the sealing position.

Once the cooking time is up, let the pressure release naturally for 2 minutes, and then do a quick pressure release by turning the pressure valve to the venting position.

Open the lid of the Instant Pot and fluff the rice with a fork.

Finally, serve the Jeera Rice with your choice of curry or dal. Enjoy!

Instant Pot Jeera Rice (Indian Cumin Rice)

Press Saute on Instant Pot. Add ghee or oil and once it&#39;s hot add cumin/jeera seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, and cloves. Saute for 30 secs (till aromatic).

Then add green chilies. Saute for another 30 secs.

Add Basmati Rice, water, salt, and give a stir.

Close the Instant Pot with pressure valve to Sealing. Cook on High Pressure for 5 minutes.

Once the pot beeps, Do a Quick Pressure Release (QR) Manually.

Lastly, remove the lid away from you, garnish with fresh cilantro/coriander leaves.

Jeera Rice is ready.

Instant Pot Method

Heat ghee in a pressure cooker on medium heat and once it&#39;s hot add bay leaf, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, cloves, cumin/Jeera. Saute for 30 seconds (till aromatic).

Add basmati rice, water, salt and stir well.

Close the lid of the cooker, Pressure cook it for 2 whistles on medium heat.

When rice is cooled, fluff the rice with a fork. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

Jeera Rice is ready

Indian Pressure Cooker Method

To make jeera rice recipe or pulao on a stovetop pot, follow the steps as above until adding water and then cook covered on a low heat until the water is absorbed and then turn off the heat. Allow it to rest for some time and then open the lid and fluff the rice.
