This curry goat recipe is a completely different spin on the classic version. Flavoursome fork tender, fall off the bone goat meat simmered in coconut milk and yam. A wholesome slow cooker dish cooked over several hours, resulting in nothing but sheer perfection served with roti. 

Slow Cooker Curry Goat (Coconut Milk Version)

2-2½ lb goat meat

curry powder (see notes

green seasoning (see notes

½ tbsp shado beni (culantro/spirit weed/cilantro works too)

tsp black pepper

garlic powder

onion powder

½ tsp pink salt (or

onion

garlic

ginger (grated/minced)

olive oil (or coconut oil)

curry powder

full fat coconut milk

thyme (tied together)

tomato paste

coconut cream (coconut butter/manna) (heaped)

scotch bonnet (whole)

black pepper, pink salt

Place the washed/dried goat meat in a large bowl.

Add the curry powder, green seasoning, red meat seasoning, shado beni, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, pink salt, onion, scallion, garlic and ginger to the bowl.

Use your hands (can wear gloves) or a large spoon to fold the marinate/seasoning into the goat meat until all of it is fully coated.

Leave the meat to infuse the marinade overnight or for several hours.

To marinate the meat

On medium heat add the oil to a large skillet then add the curry powder and proceed to &quot;cook the curry&quot; for about 1 minute.

Add the goat to the pan and proceed to sear/brown the meat. This should take about 10-15 minutes or so and you may need to do this in batches. During that time the meat should extract its own juices.

Transfer the goat to your slow cooker.

Pour in the coconut milk, add the thyme, tomato paste, coconut cream, scotch bonnet and then stir.

Put the lid on the unit and slow cooker for 4 hours on HIGH.

1½ hours before the finishing time add the yam and push the pieces towards the bottom of the unit. If the curry gravy seems too thick, add a splash of coconut milk to loosen it up!

Remove the thyme stems and scotch bonnet once the goat has finished cooking.

Be sure to do a taste test and adjust adding additional pink salt, black pepper and additional seasoning if needed.

Serve accordingly.

Jamaican Curry Goat Recipe

2½ lb goat meat

tbsp all-purpose season

salt

scotch bonnet pepper* (seeds remove and finely chopped)

pimento berries (allspice) (crushed)

stalks scallion (chopped)

thyme

ginger

potato

cooking oil

water

lime ot lemon (to wash the meat)

tbsp vinegar (to wash the meat)

Wash the goat meat in water with the vinegar and juice from the lime/lemon. Drain away all excess water.

In a large enough bowl, season the meat with 1½ tablespoon of curry powder, salt, all-purpose seasoning, pimento, ginger, scotch bonnet pepper, scallion, onion, and garlic. Drizzle about 2-3 tablespoons of oil over the meat and rub the seasoning in and leave to marinate for a least 2 hours (overnight is best).

Place a pot on medium heat and add about 2 tablespoon of cooking oil and the  remaining one tablespoon curry powder. Let the oil heat up (make sure not to burn the curry powder).

Add the goat meat and allow it to seared on all sides.

Add enough water to the pot to cover the meat. Cover and leave to cook for an hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours or until meat tender. Occasionally, check to make sure enough water is always in the pot.

Add the potato and fresh time and leave to simmer on low heat until the potato is cooked and sauce is thicken.

Lesa, I love curry goat. This recipe is awesome. When I lived in Florida, I had ackee trees. This made me popular with the Islanders. I was at a party my island friends were having. The hostess’ mother found out I had ackee trees. She sought me out, “ YOU GOT ACKEE TREES??” I kept her in ackee and she taught me to cook island food, except curry goat. Thank you, Lesa! Thank you for sharing you curry goat recipe. It is very easy follow.  Gave it to my son to make for his girlfriend's family in South Carolina. I didn't have the time to explain the details of how i make it, so i googled "how to make curried goat" and your site came up.  I read it and found most of the ingredients are the same as the ones used.  I sent your recipe to him and he and his girlfriend made it with some additional tips from me.
