Brown ground beef with onion in a large...

Add the diced tomatoes, tomato soup, water, and...

Add the cabbage to the sauce.

Cover and let simmer for about 20 minutes.

Instant Pot Low Carb UNStuffed Cabbage Rolls

Yellow/Brown Onion (sliced)

Head of Cabbage

Diced Tomatoes w/Juice

Crushed/Pureed Tomatoes

Tomato Sauce

Tablespoon Pure Virgin Coconut Oil

Tablespoon Premium Fish Sauce

Fresh Garlic (minced)

Sour Salt

Swerve Brown Sugar Replacement

Tablespoon Kosher Salt ((or 2 teaspoons Sea Salt))

Freshly Ground Black Pepper

Ground Turkey (or Ground Beef)

Riced Cauliflower ((instructions

Worcestershire Sauce

Kosher Salt

Fresh Garlic (finely minced)

Xanthan Gum

Rough chop one onion and evenly spread it on bottom of Instant Pot.

Chop onion and rough chop the cabbage and place into a bowl. Set aside.

In a Large Measuring Cup, or bowl, add all sauce ingredients (diced tomatoes w/ juice, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, coconut oil (or Crisco), mined garlic, Sour Salt (OR juice from 2 lemons OR 2 teaspoons True Lemon Crystals), brown sugar substitute, salt and pepper) and whisk together well.

In another large mixing bowl, add ground turkey (or ground beef), riced cauliflower, egg, salt, pepper, minced garlic, xanthan gum and Worcestershire sauce. Mix together well.

Use a Large Cookie Scoop and form meat mixture into meatballs. [They do not need to be perfect.]

Gently, place half the meatballs (10-12) to the Instant Pot.

Add half the remaining onions and cabbage. Lightly press down the cabbage and onions, being careful not to smash the meatballs.

Pour half of the sweet and sauce over the onions and cabbage.

Form the rest of the meatballs and place them in the Instant Pot.

Spread half of the remaining cabbage and onions over the meatballs.

Carefully pour the rest of the sauce over the cabbage and onions.

Spread the rest of the onions and cabbage over the meatballs and slightly press down. The pot will be very full.

Lock on lid and close pressure valve. Cook at high pressure for 4 minutes. 

When beep sounds, wait 10 minutes and then manually release the rest of the pressure (if any is left).

Remove lid and give it a mix.

Serve in bowls or plates.

All all ingredients to a large Dutch Oven and simmer for 30 minutes.

OMG, the BEST Instant Pot Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls AND they are LOW CARB, OMG, OMG, make them now!!!

This easy casserole brings all the delicious flavors of cabbage rolls together with a lot less time and effort.

Cabbage Roll Casserole

lb beef

onion

garlic

paprika

onion powder

cayenne pepper

brown sugar

(15 tomato sauce

beef broth

long grain white rice (uncooked)

olive oil

cabbage

cheddar

Monterey Jack Cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Spray 9&#215;13 inch casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray or olive oil spray.

Brown ground beef.  When the ground beef is about halfway browned, add the onion; cook until the beef is fully browned. Reduce the heat to low.  Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute, stirring continuously. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.

 Add paprika, onion powder, cayenne, brown sugar, tomato sauce, beef broth, and rice.  Bring the mixture to a low boil. Turn to a simmer and cover with a lid.  Simmer for 20 minutes until rice is tender.

Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1/2 of the chopped cabbage and cook until slightly tender; 5-7 minutes.  Spread cabbage over the bottom of the casserole dish.  Top with 1/2 of the ground beef mixture.  Sprinkle with 1/2 of the cheeses, blending them.  Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the other 1/2 of the chopped cabbage and cook until slightly tender, 5-7 minutes. Spread the cabbage over the cheese in the casserole dish.  Top with the other 1/2 of the beef mixture and then with the remaining cheese.

Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes.  Remove the foil and bake for another 20 minutes or until the cheese is lightly browned.

I have frozen this recipe many times and it comes out great , but I always cook it first. I freeze it in portion size containers, there are only two of us, and it reheats in no time at all

As a person who is “so-so” on cabbage rolls themselves, I was totally blown away by how absolutely delicious this is. I mean, we LOVED it. Made a bunch to use up Savoy cabbage from the garden and cooked and froze the extras. Have fed it to my husband, 8 month old and the 14 year old babysitter and everyone was asking for more. Yum!

Made this dish and it's a new favorite.  Didn't add the hot pepper and didn't saute the cabbage.  The cabbage was well cooked with less oil in the dish.  Well done!

Wow!  This was so incredibly good!  Thank you for sharing yur recipe.  I ended up steaming the cabbage on one burner and the ground beef ingredients on the other so they were done at the same time.  The only change was I used frozen Chinese white rice.  Came out so good.  I may never make stuffed cabbage again!  ☺

My Ukrainian Grandmother would roll over in her grave if I put cheese on it so being the purist that I am, I left it out and it still tasted really good!  The spices were unique too and added flavour, I too added a can of diced tomatoes and of course, salt and pepper.

Made this tonight and my picky husband and I both loved it!  It was so easy to prepare; I added a little Cajun seasoning for a little more kick!  This will definitely be replacing traditional cabbage rolls in my house.  It was easier and the cheesy goodness gave it that extra flavor boost!

Very nice recipe. I added salt and pepper to the ground beef mixture, also added fire roasted tomatoes. Also as I was sauteing the cabbage I added a little salt and pepper to each batch, and used Avocado Oil with garlic to sautee the cabbage with. Very tasty. Thanks!

I made this recipe with spaghetti sauce, I didn’t have tomato sauce, it turned out really good..not much of a cabbage person.but if your trying to find a alternative to noodles it turned out like a lasagna..nice way to finish off a head of cabbage after making coleslaw

You know,  when I was making this,  I was internally grumbling a bit about the steps and time involved in prep... but the end result was so worth it!!  YUM!!  No tweaks and the  recipe was perfect!!  Thank you!!

So much better than burning your fingers trying to peel the leaves off a cabbage head!  

A big yes to using turkey meat, just season it well on the front end.  I have made large batches and both froze after cooking and froze prior to cooking.  I like the raw freeze as it comes out the way it does when you cook directly from scratch...just make sure that the casserole is completely thawed before placing in the oven and use the same time and temperature...it will be fine.   I think that even my Polish grandmothers would approve of this recipe, they call it Golobki!

The only thing I did different is that I used meatloaf mixture instead of just hamburger. This did not taste like the stuffed cabbage that I make but it is definitely a great cabbage recipe. I will definitely make again.

This recipe is absolutely phenomenal! I made it for the second time last night! I made it exactly as written except I used way less cheese because I found it didn't need it. I ended up only using a little over a cup of cheddar cheese. I also decided to add a little Worcestershire sauce to the meat mixture and threw in some chili flakes! Super good and definitely a staple recipe in my house.

Takes time to make this and then bake but it is very tasty. I love cabbage rolls so this was easier than those. I will def make again !

OMG, THIS IS SO GOOD! Better even the next day. we are starting to make 2 at a time to have one to freeze. Leftovers perfect to heat in microwave for Lunch or dinner.  Would not change a thing.

This is something I have never tried, but perfect for this time of year. I use cabbage in a variety of recipes but never thought to use in this way

This was so delicious! I've tried about 10 different takes on cabbage rolls, and my husband said this was the best one yet. 
 
I had to make a couple substitutions. I didn't have white rice or plain tomato sauce. I used saffron rice.  I was worried the extra seasonings  would change the flavor, but it worked great.  I like a lot of sauce, so I added in a jar of pasta sauce, too.  

I had some yellow and green bell peppers and Italian sausage, so I cooked the onions, peppers, and garlic together before adding the ground beef and sausage.  It had a great flavor. 

I know I'll be making it again, and next time I'll probably double the amount of cabbage.  I cooked half of what I used in oil. It was taking a long time, so I just steamed the other half in the microwave to save time.  I couldn't tell a big difference in flavor or texture.

The flavor of this dish is divine. I modified it mostly by omission (I don't eat rice) and slight step changes. I browned the ground beef without the onion and garlic, transferred it to a saucepan, and added all the seasonings and tomato sauce without the rice and broth. Brought it to a simmer while I did the cabbage mixture. I'm from the south, so bacon grease is a staple, haha. Heated 2 tbsp grease, added cabbage and onions, and sauteed them for about 10 minutes. Then I added the garlic, a little salt and pepper, and stirred it for about a minute before taking it off the heat.  I guess I didn't have as much cabbage as the original recipe called for because I did it in one step, not two. Then I layered and baked as directed, with a short broil at the end. So like I said, no change in ingredients except no rice/broth and the addition of bacon grease for sauteeing. I LOVED the flavor of the beef layer. I have already passed this on to my kids to try. I usually hate when people critique recipes when they didn't really follow the recipe, but I'm doing it anyway because it turned out well and wanted to let people know some possible changes. I was trying to find a recipe to use up already cooked cabbage from our St Patrick's day corned beef and cabbage dinner. Thought I'd try this recipe as a base wjth changes that I made due to what I had on hand. I'm sure the recipe as written is better, but wanted to let people know these alterations worked OK. I used left-over cabbage that was boiled with corned beef and the spices used for that. As I was not sure about the weight, but it was about the size of a large head of cabbage and thought if it was meat heavy that would be OK, I doubled the rest of the recipe. I cut the pre-cooked cabbage  up into pieces, but it was still somewhat cold from the refrigerator when I used it in the recipe. Since I doubled the recipe I used a slightly taller casserole dish than a typical 9x13 baking dish. Ground venison (80/20 mix with ground pork). Didn't have 2 cans of tomato sauce so used one can of that and one can of diced tomatoes and the juice (a change I would keep because I really liked the chunks of tomato in it). Basmati rice instead of long grain, I used 2 cups uncooked and it seemed very rice-y, not sure if it's because of the type. Didn't make it bad, but probably would be better with a little less rice. Used Mexican blend shredded cheese instead of the 2 different types in the recipe and was good. Increased the time with tin foil to 30 mins since a bigger amount and cabbage was cold and it worked out just fine.
