easy baklava recipe

A nice spin to the traditional authentic baklava, easy, portioned and freezer friendly.

Baklava rolls

unsalted pistachios meat.

orange blossom water*.

phyllo dough, about 18 sheets.

unsalted butter (melted)

sugar.

water.

lime juice.

honey.

vanilla extract.***

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine syrup ingredeints until it boils, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

Set aside to cool completely.

Make the syrup:

In your food processor, pulse the pistachios until finely ground. Add simple syrup and the orange blossom water to the pistachios and mix well until you get a sticky coarse paste.

Make the filling:

Preheat oven to 320F

On a clean working surface, take two sheets of phyllo dough out, brush lightly with melted butter using pastry brush. Spoon about 1 1/2 Tablespoons of the filling and form a log on the short side of the sheet and roll all the way through.

Brush the finished roll with more butter and place in a baking sheet.

Bake in oven until top is golden brown, about 40 minutes depending on your oven.

Pour 1/2 to 1 cup of simple syrup over and let it cool completely, preferable overnight if you can.

Take phyllo cigars out, cut into 2 or 4 equal parts.

Serve and enjoy!.

A super simple vegan baklava which everyone will love. It's very easy to put together despite the look of the recipe. It follows the authentic Turkish method of making baklava, but with vegan ingredients. Instant pleaser for all dessert lovers.

Vegan Baklava

oz filo pastry

walnuts, chopped

vegan butter, melted

tsp cinnamon, ground

tsp cardamom, ground

tsp salt

water

caster sugar

agave syrup

cinnamon

orange peel

lemon peel

Easy Vegan Baklava

Preheat the oven to

Mixed the well-chopped walnuts

Mixed the well-chopped walnuts with the ground cinnamon, cardamom, and salt. Set aside in a bowl.

Melt the vegan butter

Melt the vegan butter and place in a bowl next to you.

Cut the filo pastry

Cut the filo pastry to fit into your baking tray perfectly. Place 5 layers of filo dough one-by-one on the bottom of a rectangle baking pan*, brushing each lightly with the melted vegan butter.

Spread 1/4 of the

Spread 1/4 of the walnut mixture evenly on top.

Add another 4 layers

Add another 4 layers of filo pastry one-by-one, brushing each with butter, then add another layer of nuts. <br />
My sequence of filo layers was 5 filo layers, 1/4 cups of nuts, 4 filo layers, 1/4 cups of nuts, 4 filo layers, 1/4 cups of nuts, 4 layers, 1/4 cups of nuts,5 filo layers.

Using a sharp knife,

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into equal squares.

Bake the baklava for

Bake the baklava for 45 minutes, until golden. If the baklava top starts to darken too quickly, cover with aluminium foil and continue baking until the time is up. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 15 minutes.

While the vegan baklava

While the vegan baklava is cooling down, it's time to make the vegan syrup. Place all syrup ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

Remove the cinnamon stick,

Remove the cinnamon stick, the orange and lemon peel and stir a couple of times. Pour the vegan syrup over the baklava while it's still in the baking tray.

Let the baklava cool

Let the baklava cool at room temperature, uncovered. Enjoy!
