Quick and easy tomato and mozzarella caprese salad is a fresh, light, and delicious summer salad, made with just a few simple ingredients in 10 minutes.

Tomato and Mozzarella Caprese Salad

cherry tomatoes (1 pint), halved

cup mozzarella balls (bocconcini), halved

cup fresh basil, chopped

olive oil

balsamic vinegar

oregano

teaspoon salt

teaspoon ground black pepper

balsamic reduction (optional)

In a large mixing bowl or serving dish, combine tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and basil. 

In a small mixing bowl, whisk together olive oil, balsamic vinegar, dried oregano (or Italian seasoning), salt, and pepper. 

Pour dressing into the salad and toss to combine. Top with a drizzle of balsamic reduction (optional).

This easy Caprese salad is filled with ripe tomatoes, mozzarella balls, fresh basil and then topped with a homemade balsamic glaze for the most delicious combination. Serve this crowd pleasing summertime salad as a side, appetizer or a light meal with crusty bread!

Combine

Place the tomatoes, mozzarella balls and freshly chopped basil in a large bowl.

Whisk dressing

In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper and dried oregano.

Toss and refrigerate

Pour the dressing over the tomato mixture and toss to combine. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Season and serve

Add more basil or salt and pepper to taste. Drizzle with balsamic glaze if desired.

Caprese Salad requires the freshest, tastiest tomatoes you can find! Start by cutting out the stem from the tomato and the small white part at the top.

Now place each tomato on its side and cut it into slices, approx. 1cm thick.

Put these to the side and slice the buffalo mozzarella, aiming for the same thickness.

To assemble the caprese salad, place a slice of tomato on the serving plate, laying it flat and sprinkle a touch of dried oregano on top (optional) along with some salt and pepper.

Next, lie a basil leaf on the tomato (to the left), keeping it half off the slice and sticking out.

Then add a slice of mozzarella to the other side of the tomato so it overlaps, but only half way.

Repeat this process placing the tomato, basil and mozzarella around the rim of the plate and working your way in.

Add the layers to the middle part by first laying down the tomatoes and basil leaves then the mozzarella slices to finish it off.

Drizzle a generous amount of extra virgin olive oil on top of your caprese salad.

Use a sharp serrated knife to slice the mozzarella and tomato into about 1/4 inch thick (or thicker if you like) slices.

Grab a large plate and alternately add tomato and mozzarella slices, slightly overlapping.

Drizzle a little bit of good quality extra virgin olive oil on top. Sprinkle basil over the top, or tuck smaller leaves throughout. Garnish with flakey sea salt and fresh cracked pepper if you&#39;d like.

Nice explanation and tips for assembling this dish. I would always bring something like this for a potluck or holiday party when I worked at a hospital. Some bozo would ask me for the recipe every damn time. 
It was hard to even give a reasonable response.
