I cooked this exactly as the recipe said except I left the chicken in the oven for about 45 mins. It was so good, im making it again tonite over rice except this time I’m adding an extra onion and definitely keeping some olive oil on the pan because it was really good as a dressing mixed with the yogurt sauce just a preference we had lol. Definitely keeping in the dinner rotation and would definitely recommend this recipe for sure

An amazingly flavorful and juicy dish. Made it for my husband and making it again for our neighborhood group. It’s a keeper and super easy to put together!

This was incredible. I only had chicken breasts on hand so I cut two breasts in half, to create four strips, and threw it in to marinade. It ended up marinading for a couple days before I could get around to it, and it was phenomenal. I also thought the onion was going to be way too much, quantity wise, but once they caramelized they reduced and were perfect. I put on a flat pita, added the yogurt sauce, tomatoes and cucumbers. Will definitely make this again. Total winner

I made it with chicken breast thinly sliced at 400 degrees for 25 minutes. The sliced breast strips absorbed the marinade and cooked quicker.

Loved this - I found the flavour fantastic and it was so easy to make.  It is definitely on the  supper roster now!  Instead of just using the cucumber, tomatoes in the sandwich, however, I made a fattoush salad to go with it,  it was a great dinner - if I do say so myself, this rivaled going out for this meal.

This was nothing like real shawarma. My husband is Egyptian and he was so upset with dinner. Our daughter didn't eat it.

Yummy--but when I lived in the middle east, shwarmas always had a sour pickle inside, too. Sometimes that was a pickled vegetable of some sort, but usually just a thin dill pickle spear. Usually it was just onions, pickle, garlic sauce, and meat tightly wrapped in a thin pita. I like fresh veggies in mine, though.

I did this once with thighs and another time with breast and both times the flavor was underwhelming.  There's a chicken shwarma marinated chicken thighs package you can buy at Trader Joe's and it tastes amazing and we can't crack the code to get the same experience. there's not enough flavor in this recipe.

120 mL extra-virgin olive oil

garlic, crushed

salt

900 g boneless skinless chicken thighs

Greek yoghurt

Salt

crushed chilli flakes

Pittas, warmed

lettuce

Slow cooker chicken shawarma is marinated in the perfect mixture of spices and slow cooked until incredibly tender, flavorful and delicious. Serve with pitas, over rice or hummus, or in a salad or grain bowl.

Slow Cooker Chicken Shawarma

lbs. boneless, skinless chicken thighs

sweet onion, sliced thick (about 1/2 inch pieces)

plain Greek yogurt

lemon juice

smoked paprika (or regular paprika

Combine all of the marinade ingredients in a...

Combine all of the marinade ingredients in a large bowl or plastic bag. Add the chicken thighs and mix well to coat all of the chicken in the marinade. Cover the bowl or seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Add the onion slices to the slow cooker...

Add the onion slices to the slow cooker insert. Add the marinated chicken on top of the onions, with as much of the marinade as you can get out of the bowl/bag.

Cover and cook on high for 2-3 hours...

No slice, cutting or oven used to make these 10 Minute Ground Turkey Shawarma Lettuce Wraps. A cross between a salad and taco with warm shawarma flavor from our own homemade shawarma seasoning. Perfect for a sunny summer day.

10 Minute Ground Turkey Shawarma Lettuce Wraps

Tbsp kosher salt

Tbsp cumin

paprika

garlic powder

tsp ginger

tsp allspice

tsp cardamom

tsp turmeric

turkey - 7-15% fat

Tablespoons of prepared shawarma seasoning, divided

Pita bread

Romaine lettuce

turnips (lifit)

Hummus or taratore sauce

Tomatoes

Sumac onions ** sumac needed

mint

Parsley

Feta cheese

Lemon

In a small bowl, combine your seasoning ingredients and whisk until combined. This will make more than we need for this recipe but I like to make a bit extra to use for another day. Store in sealed jar in a dark cool place, be sure to label.

2 Tbsp kosher salt

Shawarma Seasoning

Heat a large skillet, 12-14" is ideal to medium-high heat. 

Add your olive oil, once hot and glistening, add your ground turkey and diced onions. Using a spatula or wooden spoon, mix to ensure even cooking. Cook for 3-4 minutes.

Next, 3 Tablespoons of your shawarma seasoning and continue cooking for another 5-8 minutes until the turkey is fully cooked through.

Remove from heat and add your final tablespoon of shawarma spice.

Begin assembling your lettuce wraps:

Smear a bit of hummus on your romaine lettuce
