This healthy cranberry sauce is super easy, packed with delicious flavor and best part is, it can be made with no sugar added.

Healthy Cranberry Sauce {no added sugar}

orange zest

Stevia that measures like sugar

vanilla (optional)

cinnamon (optional)

Combine cranberries, water, orange zest, and Stevia in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries have popped and the mixture has thickened to your liking, about 5 to 10 minutes.

Use a fork or potato masher, if desired, to further mash up cranberries.

Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and cinnamon, if using.

The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools. It will keep in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 2 weeks.

Easy Orange Cranberry Sauce (3 Ingredients!)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (176 C) and set out an 8 x 8-inch ceramic or glass baking dish (or other dish of a similar size // use a 9 x 13 pan if making a double batch).

To the baking dish, add cranberries, orange zest, orange juice, and maple syrup. Stir to combine.

Bake for ~45-50 minutes or until the cranberries are bubbly and tender. Then remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.

Use a potato masher (or wooden spoon) to gently smash cranberries into a loose sauce. If you’d prefer it to be saucier, add a bit more orange juice at this time. Add more maple syrup to taste for a sweeter sauce. You could also transfer it to a food processor if you prefer it completely smooth.

Serve at room temperature (our preference), warmed, or chilled.

Leftovers keep covered in the refrigerator up to 1 week or in the freezer up to 1 month. Can be reheated in the microwave or in a 350 F (176 C) oven until warmed through.

OVEN (our preferred method)

Add all ingredients (cranberries, orange zest, orange juice, maple syrup) to a medium saucepan and stir to combine.

Bring to a gentle boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer (covered) for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries are tender and most have burst open. Remove lid and continue simmering (uncovered), stirring occasionally and gently mashing with a wooden spoon, until the mixture has thickened and no whole cranberries remain — about 5-10 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool for a few minutes.

If you’d prefer it to be saucier, add a bit more orange juice at this time. Add more maple syrup to taste for a sweeter sauce. You could also transfer it to a food processor if you prefer it completely smooth.

Leftovers keep covered in the refrigerator up to 1 week or in the freezer up to 1 month. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator if frozen and reheat in the microwave, in a saucepan, or in a 350 F (176 C) oven until warmed through.

Healthy Cranberry Sauce 

(120 ml) fresh-squeezed orange juice* (about 1 large orange)

vanilla extract

orange zest, cinnamon stick,

Add all ingredients to a medium pot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer for 6-8 minutes. Stir the mixture frequently to ensure nothing burns or sticks to the pan. The filling is “done” once it has thickened and most of the cranberries have popped. 

Use a fork or potato masher to pop the remainder of the cranberries, if desired. Let cool completely before serving as desired; leftovers will keep in the fridge for up to one week.

Cranberry Sauce Recipe

In a pot, cook cranberries, maple syrup and a pinch of salt over medium heat, until lightly simmering and cranberries begin to pop, about 8 minutes.  It is okay if cranberries are in different stages of breaking down.  Some will be popped, some will still be whole.

Remove cranberries from heat.  Add diced apples, orange zest and chopped orange.  Mix to combine.  It will thicken as it cools.

Perfect accompaniment!

I followed this recipe exactly as written and everyone raved about the cranberry sauce with the turkey. I had planned to add a splash of orange liquor but forgot, and am glad I did. The simplicity of this recipe with the maple syrup really shines.

Bought too much cranberries for thanksgiving so I made this again tonight! It’s so tasty with the fruit additions. My husband and I just eat this by itself as a dessert haha.

I love this cranberry sauce! It’s not too sweet and the tart cranberry flavor pops through perfectly! I often use even less maple syrup for more tartness because that’s what my husband likes best. I have also used mandarins instead of oranges. Full syrup or less, mandarins or oranges, it’s perfect!

Question: would I be able to omit the apple? I’m guessing the natural pectin in the apple helps the sauce set, but I’d like to make a sauce without the extra texture sometime. Just wondering if this would work. Thanks!

So easy and good! I had used a different recipe in years' past that was just ok, but this recipe was amazing! This year at Thanksgiving, everyone raved about how good the cranberry sauce was, whereas usually it's a side on our table that no one really talks about. Loved the texture that the apple/orange add. Cranberry Sauce Recipe

Simmer

In a medium saucepan, bring the water, orange juice, and sugar to a simmer.

Cook

Stir in the cranberries, orange zest and cinnamon stick, if using, and salt. Bring the mixture back to a simmer. Cook, stirring and mashing the berries occasionally, until the sauce has thickened. Note that it will thicken more as it cools.

Chill

Discard the cinnamon stick and orange zest strips. Transfer to a bowl, cover and chill until you are ready to serve.

Ocean Spray Cranberry Sauce

Place water and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally. Once sugar is dissolved, add cranberries and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes, until all or most of the cranberries have popped. Around minute 8, once they start popping, help them pop by pressing them against the side of the pan. See pictures above to check out the texture and what is should look like.
