easy garlic knots

These soft, garlicky knots taste just like your favorite pizzeria’s garlic knots, but made from scratch using my easy yeast-free bagel dough recipe (just flour, Greek yogurt, baking powder and salt).

Easy Garlic Knots

olive oil spray

all purpose flour

salt (less for table salt)

baking powder

butter

garlic (chopped)

tbsp grated parmesan cheese

parsley

Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with a silicone liner or Silpat.

In a large bowl combine the flour, baking powder and salt and whisk well. Add the yogurt and mix with a spoon until incorporated. Then use your dry hands and knead about 15 times. If it's too sticky you can add a little more flour. Roll into a ball.

Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces then roll each piece into worm like strips, about 9 inches long.

Tie each breadstick into a “knot-like” ball; place on the prepared baking sheet. Spray the top with olive oil.

Bake on the top third of the oven until golden about 18 minutes. Let them cool 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, in medium nonstick skillet melt the butter, add the garlic and cook until golden, 2 minutes.

Toss the knots in the skillet with the melted butter and garlic or use a brush to cover the knots with the garlic.

If the knots are too dry, give them another mist of olive oil. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and chopped parsley.

Preheat the air fryer 325F degrees and set for 11 to 12 minutes. Cook in batches without overcrowding and bake 11 to 12 minutes, or until golden. No need to turn.

Air Fryer Method:

A deliciously simple bread, these Easy Garlic Knots are made from refrigerated pizza dough with a delicious garlic butter mixture brushed over the top!

pizza dough (room temperature)

salted butter

garlic powder

oregano

Parmesan cheese

Marinara sauce (optional)

Preheat oven to 400F. Line baking pans with parchment paper (you can use one large baking pan or two smaller ones.) Or you can spray the baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. 

Open the can and roll out the pizza dough. You want to form it into a large rectangle.

Cut the rectangle in half so that you have 2 equal squares of dough. I find it easiest to cut the dough with a pizza cutter.

Cut each square into 4 strips.

Cut these strips in half. You should now have 16 (fairly) equal pieces of dough.

Roll each strip into an 8 inch rope.

Tie the rope into a knot (you can choose whether to tuck the ends under or not).

Place each knot on the prepared  baking sheet.

Melt butter and stir in seasonings:  garlic powder, oregano, and parsley. (Save the Parmesan for later.)

Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden.

Add 2 Tablespoons parmesan cheese to the leftover butter mixture.

Allow the knots to cool slightly, then brush this mixture over the knots. Sprinkle them with extra cheese if you’d like!

Serve with marinara dipping sauce on the side, if desired.

Garlic Knots Recipe

unsalted butter

Parmesan

salt

(16 oz) tube refrigerated buttermilk biscuits

Lightly spray a baking sheet with cooking spray or line with a silpat. Preheat the oven to 400°F.

Melt the butter in a small bowl. Add the Parmesan, garlic powder, oregano, parsley, and salt. Mix together and set aside.

Open the can of biscuits. Cut each of the 8 pieces of dough in half so that you have 16 pieces of dough. Roll each piece into a rope about 6 inches long and 1/2 inch thick.

Tie each rope into a knot. Place them on the baking sheet making sure to tuck the end of the rope under the knot.

Brush the tops of the dough knot with half of the butter mixture. Bake for 9-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove knots from the oven and brush with the remaining butter mixture. Serve warm.

These garlic knots are a yeast-free, dairy-free, easy recipe made with just 3 ingredients. They are kid-friendly, with no big pieces of crushed garlic, and vegan-friendly.

Self-Rising Flour ((note 1))

Water

Garlic Infused Oil ((note 2))

Italian Seasoning (or freshly choppped Parsley)

Garlic Infused Oil

Sea Salt Flakes (or chilli flakes)

Salt

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Slightly oil paper. Set aside.

In a large bowl, add self-rising flour, water, and garlic-infused oil.

Use a rubber spatula to stir and bring the ingredients together. When it starts to be difficult to stir, lightly flour your hands and knead the dough to bring it together into a dough ball.

Lightly add flour to the benchtop, release the dough, and sprinkle extra flour on top of the dough.

Divide the dough into 16 portions of the same size using a long sharp knife.

Roll each piece of dough into a long 7-inch cylinder (20 cm).

To form a small garlic knot, shape the cylinder into a U shape, then cross one end over the other. Grab the bottom piece of dough and tuck it through the hole. You have a knot with two pieces hanging on both sides. Tuck them closer (see my picture above for a tutorial).

Place each garlic knot on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a thumb of space between each.

Bake the garlic knots for 20 minutes at 400 °F (200 °C) on the center rack until the knots are golden brown.

Remove the knots from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes.

Brush garlic-infused olive oil on top of the lukewarm rolls and sprinkle some dried herbs, chili flakes, and sea salt flakes. Sprinkle freshly chopped herbs just before serving or on top of the cold knots to prevent the herbs from wilting.
