Homemade Fire Cider - Recipe

horseradish root (scrubbed, peeled and finelydiced)

6-7 inch ginger root (scrubbed, peeled and finely diced)

6-7 inch turmeric root (scrubbed, peeled and finely diced)

garlic (peeled and finely diced)

habanero pepper mash

orange (quartered)

lemon (quartered)

peppercorns

apple cider vinegar (with The "Mother"))

Add all of the ingredients to a couple of 2-quart Ball jars or canning jars. Make sure there is enough raw apple cider vinegar to cover the ingredients.

Shake and let sit in a cool, dark place like your cupboard for 4 weeks, shaking occasionally.

Strain and use as needed.

Fire Cider Recipe for Immune Health

Chop or use a food processor to prepare the above-listed onion, garlic, horseradish and ginger - per quart jar. Scale up as needed for larger batches.

Slice the optional citrus into slices or quarters, e.g. one lemon and/or orange per quart jar.

Pack your container of choice with the prepared ingredients until it is about ¾ of the way full.

Pour the ACV over the prepared ingredients until the container is full.

Place a lid on the container, and store at room temperature for 3 to 4 weeks minimum.

Shake the jar on a daily basis to help the ingredients steep and infuse.

After a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks, strain the contents of the jar using cheese cloth and/or fine mesh strainer, separating the solids from the liquid. Retain the liquid! Squeeze solids to extract as much liquid as possible.

Add honey* into the reserved liquid to taste - we usually do just a couple tablespoons per infused and drained quart jar, Also add chili or cayenne powder to taste, and thoroughly stir to combine. *As a vegan variation, either skip the sweeter or use agave syrup - though it doesn&#x27;t have the same healing properties as local raw honey.

Bottle the liquid and store in your refrigerator or a cool dark place. Fire cider should last up to a year or longer. As long as it is doesn&#x27;t develop mold or a sudden change in flavor or odor, it&#x27;s still good.

It is now ready to drink! Enjoy often to stay healthy during the winter months. It is recommended to take 1-2 tablespoons of fire cider per day throughout the fall and winter as a preventative measure. If you are feeling some crud coming on, up your dose to a full 1 oz “shot”! You can repeat a few times a day. You can also use fire cider as a zesty salad dressing! Remember to shake the bottle before pouring to ensure you’re getting all the good stuff that may have settled.

Place the ginger root, horseradish root, onion, garlic, jalapenos, rosemary, and turmeric into a quart-sized mason jar. Add the citrus zest and juice.

Fill the jar with the apple cider vinegar.&nbsp;

Cover the jar with a plastic lid, or use a piece of parchment or wax paper to keep the vinegar from touching the metal lid. Shake well, then place in a dark and cool place for one month. Try to remember to shake your fire cider daily.

After one month, strain the fire cider through cheesecloth into a clean jar. While straining, squeeze out as much of the liquid as you can.

Add 1/4 cup of honey and stir well until thoroughly incorporated. Taste your cider and add up to another 1/4 cup of honey if you feel it’s needed. Drink a tablespoon fire cider (or more!) each day.

Best Homemade Fire Cider Recipe

Organic Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar (plus more as needed to cover the ingredients)

oz Fresh Horseradish, grated or roughly chopped (approximately 1 cup)

oz Fresh Ginger, grated or roughly chopped (approximately 1 cup)

Medium Onion, chopped

Garlic Cloves, crushed

Lemon, sliced

Orange, sliced

Cinnamon Sticks

Sprigs of Fresh Rosemary (approximately 0.1 ounces)

Sprigs of Fresh Thyme (approximately 0.1 ounces)

tsp Peppercorn (optional)

Peel and grate the horseradish. Add it to a 1.5-2 qt sized jar along with the sliced ginger, turmeric, jalapenos, onion, orange, lemon, and garlic. Then, add the fresh herbs, cinnamon sticks, and peppercorns.

Pour the apple cider vinegar into the jar, making sure all the ingredients are fully covered. Add as much ACV as needed to cover the ingredients (this prevents the ingredients from spoiling).

Seal the jar. Use a piece of parchment paper under the lid to keep the vinegar from touching the metal, or a plastic lid if you have one.

Shake the jar to combine the ingredients and store the jar in a dark, cool place for up to 4 weeks. Remember to shake the jar once daily to mix the ingredients.  (I like to store the jar in the pantry where I can see it daily and remember to shake it)

After three to four weeks, use a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth to strain out the pulp and solid ingredients. Squeeze as much liquid out of the ingredients as you can.

Stir in the honey until it is incorporated. Taste and add more honey to reach your desired sweetness. Your fire cider should taste hot, spicy, and sweet.

Store sealed in an airtight jar. Keep in the refrigerator or in a dry, cool place for up to 6 months. Enjoy 1-2 tablespoons daily or use the fire tonic when cooking!

If I was to make a 2nd batch and modify it so all skins were removed and things like the twigs of herbs and cinnamon sticks etc, could I blend it all and drink it that way as opposed to draining it and just drinking the left over juice?
If so, would it be best to blend after making the recipe or after the 4 weeks?  Love to know.

Fire Cider Recipe | One of the BEST Natural Remedies & Immune Booster

Fire cider is an herbal tonic used to boost immunity, help with digestion, and warm your bones on a cold day. We love taking a shot in the morning in a half glass of water to fire up our digestive system, boost our immune system, and start the day off with a bang! Layer all ingredients into a 2 quart jar.

Pour apple cider vinegar over ingredients in jar until everything is covered.

Seal with a lid and leave on the countertop for 4 weeks.

Shake gently every day.

After the 4 weeks are up, strain and pour liquid into a quart jar, seal and place in the refrigerator.

It will store for at least a few months in the fridge.

Drink a couple tablespoons daily. You can add a bit of honey or date syrup for taste.

I've made fire cider for a few years now. Here are some things I've learned to make my life easier on both ends of this process. 

Everything can be put in a food processor. No need to chop much. I don't peel the ginger and I just take off the outer part of the garlic but leave the inner layer on. I do peel the onion. You just need to clean everything well with a scrub brush.

I highly encourage using a juicer instead of straining the product with cheesecloth. First, you will get 50% more product to pay for your juicer and second, your hands will thank you! (Make sure seeds are removed from the lemons when you put them in the recipe.) Amazon has their own brand of juicer that is inexpensive and works great for this.

I make a gallon at a time. Technically, you don't need to put in the fridge after you strain it, but I do now. The bright color is retained this way. I have read it can last for up to a year. It doesn't last that long. I make a gallon every 6-8 weeks for two people.

Last, a touch of one of the fruit flavors of California Balsamics are a great addition right before serving. It might not be necessary for this recipe, but with horseradish and habaneros, it is!

No, your herbs will not mold in apple cider vinegar if they go in damp or wet.

The recipe I typically use has oranges and horseradish, but cranberries and cinnamon sounds much more delicious and much better to go down! I'll have to try. Oregano also has health benefits. Thanks for the variation, Jill!
