Five-spice prawns

shallot,

garlic, crushed

3cm piece root ginger, grated

five-spice powder

Tbsp each: fish sauce, soy sauce

Tbsp each: sugar, canola oil

Combine all the ingredients — except the prawns — in a bowl. Whisk well to combine.

Add the prawns mixing well to coat evenly. Cover and marinate in the fridge for at least 1 hour.

Thread medium-sized wooden skewers with four prawns each. Either grill or cook in a ridged frying pan for 2 minutes each side or until cooked.

Great served on a bed of crisp lettuce, sliced cucumber, Vietnamese mint leaves and fresh pineapple cubes.

In a pan, fry pork and onions until lightly browned and cooked through. Add five-spice, oyster sauce, soy sauce and water.

Continue to cook for 3 or 4 minutes to allow the flavours to emerge.

Add shredded cabbage, and toss until cooked. It will take only a couple of minutes.

Serve with steamed rice, and garnish with coriander.

Lightly season the boneless chicken with salt and pepper on both sides.

Pan fry the chicken for about 5-6 minutes on one side, then another 5-6 minutes on the other side until golden and fully cooked-through. Set aside.

In the same pan, add in the water, honey, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, five-spice powder, grated ginger, and minced garlic. Mix until smooth and let simmer over medium-high heat for about 1-2 minutes until thickened and bubbly.
