Sweet Potatoes Au Gratin Recipe

Thyme (pronounced like 'time') is an evergreen herb with culinary, medicinal, and ornamental uses. The most common variety is Thymus vulgaris. Thyme is of the genus Thymus of the mint family (Lamiaceae), and a relative of the oregano genus Origanum.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Pull the leaves off the thyme stems. Discard the stems and roughly chop the leaves.

Place the cream and cornstarch in a small bowl or pot.&nbsp;Whisk well. Add the&nbsp;butter, garlic, thyme, 1 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Heat over the stovetop, or in the microwave, just until the butter melts. Then turn off the heat and whisk again.&nbsp;

Peel and slice each sweet potato one by one. Slice the potatoes into very thin rounds, 1/8-inch thick. Arrange each potato in a 9x13-inch baking dish, fanning it out in a pretty pattern.&nbsp;

Before peeling and slicing the next sweet potato, pour a little of the cream mixture over the potato slices in the pan, so it does not brown while you work on the other potatoes.&nbsp;

Repeat until all the sweet potatoes are sliced and arranged prettily in the baking dish. Then pour the remaining cream mixture over the top.

Bake for 30 minutes. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the sweet potatoes. Then bake another 10 minutes until the cheese is golden. Serve warm.

I have cooked this and LOVE it! For making it in advance, do you think it's better to fully/partially cook and reheat or keep it raw and try to keep the potatoes covered with sauce until time to cook? Also, thinking about cooking them in the crockpot. May not get the nice browning of the oven, but convenience may win out.

I've never had scalloped sweet potatoes always had them with brown sugar &amp; such, but that wouldn't have went well with beautiful T bone steaks. I read this recipe &amp; turned my nose up to this initially, my son in law insisted on the sweet potatoes scalloped to just try it once. OH MY! These were DELICIOUS!!! Simple to make. I used a Madeleine to slice potatoes, 2 teaspoons of dried thyme instead of fresh, lightly buttered the 9×13 pan, &amp; covered it for the first 30 minutes. They were cooked perfectly in the 40 minutes time. A definite do over &amp; keeper!! Thank you for sharing!

Made this tonight and it was wonderful.  I had only dry thyme and added some fresh rosemary.  The sauce is so much easier than cooking a white sauce, especially in a 2 cup glass measure in microwave.  I did cut back butter a bit.  The other thing I found was, probably best to cover it for the 30 minute initial bake time.  Recipe didn’t specify, I did not and after 20 minutes the top of sweet potatoes kind of dried out a bit, and sauce didn’t bubble up to cover them, which was easily remedied.  Added Panko crumbs with the parm.  Decadent and delicious!!

I've made this recipe for myself, my fiancee, and for my dad and stepmom(three times total) and this dish is a real pleaser! Everyone loved it!

After reading the reviews I was super excited to try this.  Thank goodness I did a trial run of this recipe BEFORE thanksgiving, because the taste testers in my house didn't care for it at all.  We all took one bite and threw the rest out.  The amount of butter of heaviness in this dish was too much.

This was really good. Added Parmesan cheese and Panko bread crumbs mixed together the last 10 minutes of baking. Will make again. Thanks!

The SMELL!
I used canned coconut milk, and topped it off with a mixture of bread crumbs and cheese. I smell in the house is crazy good and everyone loved it. Will make next time my husband buys sweet potatoes instead of yams. Which is everytime I send him for Yams🤪

I made this for Easter dinner and all I can say is Yum!  The request was for a yam dish but I didn't want a sweet casserole. This recipe really fit the bill.  It smells so good when baking too.  Everyone really enjoyed it.

I made this for Thanksgiving and followed the directions exactly as written.  Something however, must have gone wrong.  The recipe states that it will serve 12, but somehow 4 of us nearly finished off the entire 9x13 pan!! 🤣.  TOO TOO GOOD!!

Made this today for thanksgiving. Added some rosemary along with the thyme as I had some extra and it was a huge hit! Got many compliments on the dish and will make again! Such a fun way to change up the traditional sweet potato.

Garlic Butter Scalloped Sweet Potatoes

These garlic butter potatoes are truly incredible and so simple to whip up!

Garlic Butter Potatoes

Garlic

1kg / 2lb small Potatoes ((see notes))

tbsp Olive Oil

Salt

tsp Black Pepper

/ 6 tbsp Butter

tbsp very finely diced Fresh Parsley

Preheat the oven to 200C/390F.

Slice the tips off the garlic bulbs to expose the cloves. Drizzle with a little oil then individually wrap them in foil.

Make very thin slices (1/16&quot; - 1/8&quot;) along the potatoes, ensuring you don&#39;t go all the way down so they stay intact. Place them in a large mixing bowl with 3 tbsp oil, 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper. Give them a good toss so they&#39;re evenly coated in the oil and seasoning, then space them out cut-side-up on the baking tray. Use a brush to collect any leftover oil in the bowl and brush it over the tops of the potatoes.

Add the garlic bulbs to the tray then roast everything for 30 minutes. Remove and use a brush to coat the potatoes in any excess oil in the tray (you might find it easiest to tip the tray a little). Check the garlic and if it looks like it&#39;s browning too quickly, lower the heat slightly to 180C/350F.

Roast everything again for another 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are deep golden and crispy and the garlic is very soft, light golden and sticky.

Squeeze the roasted garlic into a small bowl with the butter, parsley and a pinch of salt and pepper (to taste). You might need kitchen roll or a towel to protect your fingers when squeezing the garlic if it&#39;s very hot. Combine the butter, check for seasoning, then spread over the potatoes whilst they&#39;re hot. There should be plenty of butter so don&#39;t hold back!
