We took a couple shortcuts for this traditional lasagna recipe by using store-bought marinara and boxed pasta sheets. It saves a ton of time without sacrificing any ﻿flavor. Make sure to follow these tips.

Classic Lasagna

lasagna noodles

extra-virgin olive oil,

beef

garlic,

oregano

Kosher salt

black pepper

(32-0z.) jars marinara

whole milk ricotta

c. Parmesan, divided

parsley,

lb. sliced mozzarella

Found the measurements, and quantities were extremely off. Ended up throwing out a lot of noodles and having to make more meat and ran out of cheese slices even though we used 2lbs of cheese.

This recipe did not work out for me at all. The quantities were WAY off. For a start you need 2lb of beef.
For the mozzarella, I sliced fresh moz myself, which ended up beeing think and making it extra cheesy - better to buy sliced moz (slightly processed).
Finally, the whole milk ricotta mix was not easily spreadable at all... perhaps I used the worng broand or should have used the egg white as suggested in the other comments.

Great recipe! I used half ground beef/half hot Italian sausage.

I ended up only getting 2 full layers into my pan. I used 8 noodles and had a bunch of oily noodles leftover. I also didn't need 2 full pounds of mozzarella, but I'm sure we'll manage to eat that. Overall, easier recipe than any I've tried before. Very tasty.

My Family loved this recipe. I added the cinnamon the the meat mixture, which many Greek recipes call for (we are Greek) and it was wonderful. Even my daughter, who doesn’t like lasagna, ate some and said how good it was.

Actually when I moved to the south in  60s-70s you could not get Ricotta in grocery stores, so I did use cottage cheese with eggs added.  I worked quite well.  I now use Ricotta and also add the egg.

Fantastic. I made it in a 9x9 pan so halved the recipe (sorta). Added more cheese, because there is never enough for us :) Laid out noodles as you suggested and sprayed with olive oil. First time I haven’t had them tear. Made it so easy. Also the tip to under cooking lasagna was valuable. Used a sprinkle of cinnamon. Just perfect. My husband said you need to make this again.  I used Barilla marinara sauce.

Turned out excellent. The only thing I did different was to divide it into two pans. One I froze, the second I baked after leaving in the fridge overnight. To answer one of the below questions, I then increased the 400• time to 30 minutes from 18-20.  Worked out great.

Loved the tip about adding the cinnamon! Delicious lasagna!

This one pan Skillet Lasagna has all the same ingredients and flavors as a traditional meat lasagna but with minimal prep and is ready in just 40 minutes.

Skillet Lasagna

pound ground beef

onion,

3 cloves garlic, minced

Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

lasagna noodles, broken

ounces marinara sauce

1/2 cup ricotta cheese

Parmesan cheese

2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded

fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat add ground beef. Stir well and break up the beef into small pieces and cook until evenly browned but not fully browned yet, about 5 minutes. 

Add in onion, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Continue to cook until the meat is evenly browned and is no longer pink. The onion should also start to soften.

Add half of the marinara sauce, a layer of broken uncooked lasagna noodles.

Bring to a boil and then cover and turn the heat down to medium. Allow it to simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the noodles are tender. You may need to occasionally add in some water if you find the sauce is getting dry. You may also want to occasionally stir the noodles into the meat sauce.

Add a few dollops of ricotta cheese on top and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

Turn the broiler on high and broil for 3-5 minutes until cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden. Serve with fresh chopped parsley on top.

Ravioli Lasagna Bake

(32-oz.) jar marinara

whole milk ricotta

c. basil,

garlic powder

(12-oz.) packages frozen cheese ravioli

c. mozzarella

Preheat oven to 350º and grease a 9”-x-13” baking dish with cooking spray. Warm a large, nonstick skillet over medium heat and add ground beef and onion. Season with salt and pepper and cook until beef is browned and onion is soft, about 10 minutes, then drain fat and return to skillet. Stir in garlic and marinara, then reduce heat and simmer for flavors to meld, 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, add ricotta, egg, 1/4 cup&nbsp;Parmesan, basil, garlic powder, and season with salt and pepper. Stir to combine.&nbsp;

Spread 1/3 of the meat sauce into prepared pan. Top with a single layer of ravioli, half of the remaining meat sauce, half of the ricotta mixture, and half of the mozzarella and remaining Parmesan. Repeat layers, ending on cheeses.&nbsp;

Cover pan loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake until golden and bubbly, 15 minutes more. Sprinkle with remaining basil and serve.

This is delicious, I am a school chef and I make this dish, for our school lunch and our kids love it.  The question asked is:  Do you cook the ravioli? From frozen, I cooked the ravioli according to the directions on the package.  Hope this can help.

One of my favorite recipes of all time. I can't go back to regular lasagna. So much flavor and depth. The fresh basil makes a huge difference in taste. I tried making it without fresh basil during the winter and it was not the same. I also use Rana brand ravioli which adds more flavor than frozen ravioli, in my opinion. Amazing recipe!

This recipe is a keeper! Everyone raved about the flavor and they took not only a second helping, but a third helping at dinner. I used super fresh ingredients, two different flavored raviolis, added more meat, a hot Italian sausage,  added portabella mushrooms,  and doubled the sauce. Actually next time I will use 1 and a half jars of sauce. The raviolis were not frozen and they turned out fantastic.

After all the recipes on this website so far, this is my families absolute favorite. My mother especially loved it because she really missed Swedish lasagna when she moved to America but after making this recipe, this is her new favorite.

Wow! This was unbelievable. We used a meat substitute to make it vegetarian. I added a little extra sauce per some of the reviews and I used a family size 20 oz of refrigerated ravioli and it was perfectly fine. It took longer than 15 minutes to assemble, but my family of four almost ate half of this! I will absolutely make this again and there’s little to nothing to change from the original recipe. Kudos!

I let the ravioli thaw the night before in the fridge. It was amazing. I don’t know if it matters, but I wanted to make sure that it would be warm and ready to go when eating. This was the best lasagna dish I’ve ever made myself. I wouldn’t change anything. I bought everything except the basil at ALDI and it fed 7 people for under $20 with leftovers to spare. Even with a side salad and garlic bread. You can’t beat that.

I made this for the first time and my husband really liked it.  I added a little cream to the ricotta/egg mixture because it was a little thick but that was the only change I made.  I wish i had used a little more meat than it called for....i had to skimp a little on my meat layers. I think it would be better with about 2 lbs of ground meat and 2 jars of marina sauce if you like a more meaty dish.  But it is an excellent dish and would be a great dish to take to a church dinner.

New Mexico chile powder

tomatoes (1 14.5-ounce can)

black beans (1 15-ounce can, rinsed and drained)

sweet corn

fire roasted diced green chiles (1 4-ounce can)

enchilada sauce (or

8” large flour tortillas

shredded pepper jack cheese

Colby Jack cheese

black olives

scallions (finely chopped)

cilantro

Preheat oven to 425°F.

Drizzle olive oil into a large skillet, over medium high heat. Add beef, onion, paprika, cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper to skillet. Brown beef for about 5-7 minutes. Add tomatoes, beans and corn. Stir to combine. Allow to cook while you begin preparing the baking pan.

Smooth about 1/3 of the enchilada sauce over the bottom of a 9x13 baking pan. Lay tortillas on the bottom of the pan, slightly overlapping until pan is covered (about 4 tortillas).

Spoon half of the beef mixture over top of the tortillas, spread evenly. Layer tortillas on top of beef mixture. Smooth about 1/3 of the enchilada sauce over the tortillas. Sprinkle 1/2 of each of the cheeses on top. Scatter the green chiles over the cheese. Add the remaining beef mixture. Spread evenly. Layer tortillas on top of beef mixture. Spoon remaining enchilada sauce over tortillas. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top of tortillas. Garnish top with olives and scallions.

Bake for 10-15 minutes, until cheese is melted and lasagna is warmed through. Remove from oven and sprinkle with cilantro.

Serve and enjoy!
