Ham and Potato Soup

unsalted butter ((2 oz | 60 g))

onion (finely chopped)

carrot

celery

potatoes

cooked ham, (diced (add more if desired))

all-purpose flour ((plain flour))

chicken stock ((or broth))

chicken Bouillon

milk ((whole milk

salt, if needed ((adjust to you taste))

Heat the butter in a pot over medium heat.&nbsp;Sauté the onion, carrots, celery until beginning to soften (about 4 minutes).

Add the ham and potatoes, cook for 2 minutes, then add the garlic and sauté until fragrant (about 30 seconds).

Mix the flour through and cook for 2 minutes.

Stir in stock and bouillon, mixing all ingredients together. Increase heat and bring to a boil until potatoes are 'just' fork tender, about 10-12 minutes.

Reduce heat to medium-low, add the milk and stir over the heat until thickened (about 5 minutes).

Taste test and season with salt and pepper, if desired.

Serve warm.

Instant Pot:

Assuming your electric pressure cooker has a saute option, press the saute button and spray with oil, add the onions, celery, and garlic and saute, 4 to 5 minutes.

Add the chicken broth, carrots, 1 1/2 cups water, potatoes, ham bone and ham and cook high pressure 20 minutes.

Let the steam release naturally. Add the cabbage and cook 5 minutes high pressure. Natural or quick release.

To cook on the stove top:

Follow the same directions as above in a large pot or Dutch oven, cook covered low 1 hour adding the cabbage during the last 10 to 15 minutes. Cook until the cabbage and vegetables are tender.

Heat the butter in a large pot over medium high heat. Add the onions and carrot and cook for 4-5 minutes or until just softened.

Whisk in the flour, stirring constantly. Cook for 1 minute.

Slowly add the chicken broth, whisking constantly. Bring to a simmer. Add the ham, corn, thyme and potatoes.

Simmer for 25 minutes or until potatoes are tender, stirring occasionally. Add the heavy cream and bacon. Cook for 5 more minutes. Serve.

Press the “Saute” button on the Instant Pot, and add the butter, carrot, onion, garlic, and celery to the pot. Cook stirring occasionally for 5 minutes. (This is an optional step. You can dump everything in at once if you want).

Add the ham, potatoes, vegetable stock and heavy cream to the Instant Pot. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme, and close the lid. Lock the lid, move the valve to "Sealing" and cook on Manual for 10 minutes.

When the ham and potato soup is done, and you hear the beep sound, click the Cancel/Keep Warm button. Turn the valve to "Venting" and quick release until all the pressure is out.

Open the lid and serve warm.

Add water, ham, potato, onion, and fresh garlic to a 6-8 quart pan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil for 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes, reduce heat and add spices, and Premium Better Than Bouillon Roasted Chicken Base; stir.

In a small skillet, add butter and flour. Whisk over low-medium heat until thick. Slowly whisk in the milk and combine until it is lump-free. Stir over low heat for 3 minutes.

Once combined, add milk mixture to the main soup pot.

Stir soup and simmer for 10 minutes over low-medium heat.

Potatoes will be tender, and soup should be creamy, but not thick. Serve warm!

This incredibly easy Keto Ham Soup is so tasty and a real family-friendly recipe! The ultimate in keto soup recipe. Tastes just like a traditional pea and ham soup but without all the carbs!

Keto Pea and Ham Soup with Hemp Seeds

celery (finely diced)

carrot (finely diced)

cauliflower florets ((120 grams))

Salt and pepper (to taste)

chicken broth (or stock)

parsley (finely chopped)

Place all the ingredients into the pot. Set to Pressure Cook/High Heat/35 minutes. When finished allow natural release for 10 minutes before triggering quick release.

Remove the ham hock from the soup. Separate the meat from the hock and discard the fat and bone. Shred the ham and reserve.

Discard the bay leaves and puree the soup (puree until smooth or slightly chunky, whichever you prefer). Adjust the seasoning to taste (see notes).

Ladle the soup into serving bowls. Top with shredded ham and garnish with extra hemp seeds and fresh parsley.

INSTANT POT® METHOD

Place all the ingredients into the slow cooker; cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours. Cook until the ham is soft and tender. Follow from step 2 above.

For stovetop, turn down to low, cover with a lid and cook on low checking every hour until hemp is soft and ham is falling off the bone. Follow from step 2 in the Instant Pot method.

SLOW COOKER OR STOVE TOP METHOD

Add the garlic, onion, celery, carrot, and cauliflower into the mixer; chop 4 sec/speed 6. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. (Remove the vegetables and insert blade cover (if using) and replace the vegetables).

Add the remaining ingredients to the mixer (filling only to the max line with broth); set to slow cook/100min/95°C (or 100 min/95°C/reverse/stir). Extend the cooking time until the ham is soft and tender.

Separate the meat from the hock and discard the fat and bone. Shred the ham and reserve.

Discard the bay leaves (check to ensure no bones are in the soup) and puree the soup in two batches; 30sec/speed 5-9 (or less if you prefer the soup slightly chunky). Adjust seasoning to taste (see notes).

Ladle the soup between serving bowls. Top with shredded ham and garnish with extra hemp seeds and fresh parsley.

THERMAL METHOD

Made this for my traditional pea and ham soup loving hubby. I did add extra hammock meat, because that's how we like it. Told him I made it with a new recipe that was ok for me to eat and left it at that. I was all ready to tell a fib and say the recipe used yellow split peas if he questioned further, but didn't have to. 😁 He said it "wasn't bad at all" as he helped himself to his second bowl full. Almost wouldn't believe me when I told him there were no peas at all in it.

The hemp seeds add a unique flavor but it is extremely subtle. Some thoughts after making a batch, Double or triple the cauliflower from one cup to increase creaminess and body , extra garlic if you like garlic, use bone broth in place of broth. To add Unami I added soybean paste. Finally, to give the soup more body add extra ham. Following the recipe made a thin gruel. With enhancements it’s a good healthy soup.

Well I never ever thought this was possible. I Love my pea and ham soup but replacing the peas with hemp seeds I was absolutely sceptical. Well how wrong was I. This recipe is to die for. It's incredibly good. So easy to make. I slow cook it. Nothing better.

I was sceptical but was blown away on how yummy this was, I used my leftover xmas ham bone and doubled all the ingredients (minus stock, I added 1additional litre of water) and no salt.

Wait, am I reading this right? This Lady actually is complaining that there is something not in the recipe..... that she could just quietly add if she chose to? Wow, do I feel sorry for the people that know her personally- she prolly has no clue how controlling she is in real life. The recipe is awesome, made it yesterday with 1/4 cup of dried split peas, some cauliflower puree for thickness,  and some extra garlic (I didn't ask for Momma Jun's permission but I'm crazy like that) Lost almost 80 lbs with help from recipes like this...
