Southern Baked Beans with Ground Beef

beef

onion (medium, diced)

bacon (chopped)

salt

brown sugar

molasses

mustard

pork and beans ((3 15-ounce cans))

Add hamburger, chopped onions and chopped bacon to a large skillet and cook over medium heat until the hamburger is browned and the onions have softened. Sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon of salt or to taste. Drain the grease if necessary.

Add brown sugar, molasses and mustard and cook over medium low heat for 5 minutes,.

Add beans and simmer for 15- 20 minutes until the liquid has absorbed and they have thickened. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Sorry, WAY too sweet for my liking. But appreciate having the chance to try this. May try it without the molasses.

My husband and I really liked this, I made this my main dish and cooked a couple of sides. It made a delicious meal!

I have been using baked beans and hamburger since my kids were little. Thats all we had was pork-n-beans, hamburger and BBQ sauce.  I just started using baked beans. Now isn't that a hoot. LOL

With some Pico de Gallo added that's my Chile?

Funny enough this Southern woman serves this for a meal, complimented with creamy cold slaw and cornbread.  I make it just like you do except I add some chopped green pepper with the onions.  My 16 yearold grandson calls this dog food and probably would love to eat the whole pan!  It's a quick meal that tastes great.
