Hamburger Cream Steaks

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, heavy cream, egg, salt, and pepper, mixing until just combined.

Divide into 4 portions, shaping into 4 balls, flattening until 1/2 inch thick, and set aside.

Cook the hamburgers in a nonstick skillet, cooking 4 to 5 minutes per side. Transfer hamburgers onto a clean plate.

To make the hamburgers:

In the same pan melt the butter, add onion, cooking on medium heat until golden and softened, about 5 to 7 minutes. Add garlic, cooking until fragrant, about 20 seconds.

Season with salt and pepper; add flour, whisking until the flour lumps have dissipated. Lower the heat to medium-low and add in the stock first, followed by the heavy cream, whisking continuously until it thickens. Whisk in 1 tablespoon of the dill.

Nestle the hamburgers into the sauce and let everything simmer for 4 to 5 minutes. Season again with salt and pepper and garnish with remaining dill. Enjoy!

To make the sauce:

Hearty hamburger steaks pan-seared and simmered in a rich onion gravy. A simple, budget-friendly comfort meal made in one skillet!

Best Hamburger Steak Recipe

avocado oil beef

packet beefy onion soup mix (dry - divided)

black pepper

sweet onion (thinly sliced)

brown gravy mix

water

worcestershire sauce

In a large bowl, add and crumble the ground beef, sprinkle ½ packet of onion soup mix, and black pepper (You can use your hands or a fork for this). Divide the mixture into 6 equal amounts and form them into patties.

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat (cast iron works great!). Once hot, add the hamburger steaks, leaving space between each so they’re not crowded. Let them cook undisturbed for 4–6 minutes per side, until they develop a deep brown crust (that crust gives you lots of flavor). Remove from the skillet to a plate to rest.

Drain all but about 2 tablespoons of grease from the pan. Return the pan to the heat and add the sliced onions. Cook for about 3-5 minutes, until translucent and caramelized to your liking.

Sprinkle on the remaining onion soup mix and brown gravy mix. Then slowly pour in water, stirring to combine. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer and stir in Worcestershire sauce. Return the hamburger steaks to the pan, coat with the gravy, and cook until done to your liking

Oh my goodness, this was perfect comfort food for a really long day at work. Thank you!

Good flavor, but needed an acid to balance it. Ended up dousing it in Worcestershire at the table. The recipe also doesn’t make sense in some parts. I cooked the beef patties for 5 mins on each side, then cooked in the sauce for 10 mins or so and they were still a bit pink and the bottom of the pan was burning. I ended up microwaving them a bit before serving :| not the most graceful recipe execution. I only used 1lb of meat and thought the patties were too big. Also this took me about an hour. I’m certainly not a novice cook, but maybe there was a nuance that I missed.

This was super delicious! Will definitely make again the dill gives a really nice brightness to the sauce. My only note for those cooking in one pan make sure to clean out any bits from the burgers that are too dark as it will make your gravy darker, and check for salt before adding the beef back in.

Delicious. The patties were so moist. This will be on repeat in my house

Absolutely delicious. Recipe as written is delicious, but I recommend adding a little Dijon mustard.

I’ve made these twice now & they’re a hit with the family! I’ve reduced the salt to 1/2 tsp in both the patties & the sauce. For the sauce I deglaze the pan with a 1/4 cup of white wine after adding the flour & before adding the broth. Fantastic served over rice!

Great recipe! I pretty much followed the recipe but added fresh mushrooms with the onions and garlic mostly because I had them and they needed to be used. I will definitely make this again!

These were such a good comfort meal! Loved it with mashed potatoes on a cold winter or fall day!

Delicioso!! Una nueva manera de comer hamburguesas, la salsa inigualable 👌🏻👌🏻
