How to Make Almond Milk

almonds (soaked overnight)

cold filtered water (plus more for soaking)

tsp vanilla extract

maple syrup (honey

sea salt

After the almonds have soaked overnight, drain and rinse them. Then, place the almonds in your high-powered blender along with four cups of fresh, cold water and any optional add-ins.

Blend

Blend on high for 2 minutes, or until creamy.

Strain

Strain the almond milk through a nut-milk bag or a few layers of cheesecloth into a bowl or large measuring cup.

Store

Pour the almond milk into an airtight storage container and place in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Almond milk is a great dairy-free nut milk and it's incredibly easy to make at home. It's healthier than many store-bought options (no gums or chemicals) and all you need are almonds, water and a blender. That's it!

The best homemade almond milk recipe you&#039;ll ever have! Learn exactly how to make creamy vanilla almond milk from scratch with two core ingredients and a few delicious flavor add-ins. Use it in coffee, cereal, recipes and more!

Homemade Vanilla Almond Milk

Add almonds to a bowl and cover with enough water to submerge. Soak 6-8 hours or overnight. This helps them soften enough so that they can blend properly.

In the morning, drain almonds from their soaking water and rinse them in a colander.

Add soaked almonds and 4 cups of fresh filtered water to a high-powered blender. Add in vanilla, honey and salt.

Blend on high speed for 1 minute, adding 30 seconds more if you feel it necessary to blend.

Place your nut milk bag over a large bowl or pitcher. Pour the almond milk into the bag and strain the liquid into the bowl, using your hands to wring out all of the milk.

Pour the almond milk from the bowl into glass jars. Almond milk will keep in the fridge for up to a week, if not longer. If it separates, simply shake the jars.

Depending on what kind of nut milk you're making, soak nuts accordingly. I did not soak pecans but you can if you'd like. You'll need blender or food processor, fine mesh strainer or nut milk bag, large bowl and bottles or jars.

Drain: Add soaked nuts to strainer and rinse with fresh water.

Blend: Add nuts into blender with 4 cups fresh water; blend for 2-3 minutes. Nut milk should be creamy and opaque.

Strain: Place nut milk bag in large bowl (or mesh strainer over large bowl or 4 cup measuring cup). Gently pour milk from blender into nut milk bag. If using nut milk bag, squeeze all liquid out as best as you can into bowl – what is left behind is the pulp. See in post below recipe card for what to do with leftover.

Store: Gently pour nut milk into glass bottles – best to use a bowl with a pouring spout or use a funnel. Store nut milk in fridge. Best enjoyed within 1 week. Settling is natural – just shake bottle before pouring.

If using nuts, seeds, or grains, put them in your spice grinder or small food processor and whiz until powdered or beginning to take on a thick butter consistency, about 1 minute.

Put the ground nuts, seeds, or grains, or the nut or seed butter, in your blender and add the water and salt (if using). Once you get used to this recipe, you can adjust the liquid amount up or down to suit your desired consistency. Blend for 30 to 60 seconds, or until creamy.

If desired, pour the liquid through a sieve lined with cheesecloth or a nut milk bag to remove any remaining nut bits.

If using any optional add-ins, return the milk beverage to your blender, add your chosen ingredients, and blend until smooth, about 30 seconds.

Store in an airtight bottle or container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. It will settle and thicken as it sits. Simply thin with more liquid, if needed, and give it a quick blend.
