This homemade Naan Bread is crispy on the outside &amp; chewy on the inside!

Naan Bread

water

active dry yeast (1 package)

sugar

flour

vegetable oil

buttermilk

salt

Vegetable oil (for frying)

In the bowl of a stand mixture*, mix together warm water, yeast, and sugar. Rest for 3-5 minutes until the yeast is foamy.

Add in flour, oil, buttermilk, egg &amp; salt and mix with dough hook on low speed to combine, then on the second speed for 5 minutes. Dough will be pillowy soft and not sticky but may be slightly tacky.

Remove dough hook and cover with a towel for 1-1 ½ hours, until dough has doubled in size.

Divide dough into 8 pieces. Thinly roll each piece into a rough circle shape about 4-5”.

Heat a drizzle of oil in a skillet on medium high. Add one naan and cook until golden brown on one side and then flip and cook until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes on each side).

Add oil for each naan.

Perfect Naan Bread with Garlic Butter

all purpose flour

yeast

anise seeds (optional)

yogurt

olive oil

butter (melted)

garlic powder

sea salt

In a large bowl combine the flour, sugar, instant yeast and salt.  In another medium sized bowl whisk together the warm water, yogurt, and olive oil.  Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients until the dough starts to come together.  Lightly flour your your hands and knead into a ball.

Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let it double in size in a warm area.  About 1 hour.

Lightly flour a clean surface and shape the dough into a rectangle and cut into about 8 equal parts.  Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.

Preheat a skillet to medium high heat.  You want the skillet to be very hot.  Put the dough onto the hot skillet and flip after about 30 seconds after bubbles start to form and it turns brown.  Flip to the other side and cook until it is golden brown and blacked about a minute more.

Brush with garlic butter and garnish with chopped parsley.

This Indian Naan Bread recipe is incredibly easy to make at home and the result is a soft and delicious Indian bread that you can have as a side to many meals.

Easy Indian Naan Bread Recipe

c. all-purpose flour

instant yeast

c. milk

c. plain Greek yogurt

cardamom

turmeric

Tbsp. melted Ghee or butter

Pour the milk into a liquid measuring cup, whisk in the Greek yogurt, and heat in the microwave until warm to the touch (about 110 degrees F). Pour the warm milk into a large bowl or the bowl of an electric stand mixer. Add the sugar, instant yeast, salt, cardamom, turmeric, and 2 1/2 cups of the flour.

Mix well with a wooden spoon or the paddle attachment on your stand mixer. Continue adding flour gradually in small amounts, until a soft dough is formed that cleans the sides of the bowl (it will still be sticky). Knead the dough using the dough attachment on your stand mixer, or by hand until it is smooth and elastic, about 3-5 minutes in the mixer or 10 minutes by hand.

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and let it rest at room temperature, covered lightly, for about 2 hours.

After the dough has rested, turn it onto a lightly floured surface and divide the dough into 12 equal pieces, rounding each into a ball shape. The dough will still be a little sticky, but you won't have too much trouble forming it into balls.

Cover the pieces with a towel and let them rest for 30 minutes. While the dough rests, preheat your oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit and place a pizza stone or large cast iron pan on the bottom rack of the oven.

Once the dough has rested for a half hour, one by one, roll each piece into a circle about 6 inches wide. Open up the oven and lay the circle of dough on the hot pizza stone. Spritz the top of the dough with a little water or vegetable oil. Close the oven and bake the naan for about 2-3 minutes, until it is lightly puffed and brown spots begin to appear on the bottom. Turn the naan using tongs and return to oven for another 2 minutes or so.

Remove the naan from the oven and place on a cooling rack or large plate. Brush lightly with Ghee or melted butter. Stack the hot naan on top of each other as it comes out of the oven to help keep the pieces warm.

This Homemade Naan is truly the best. It’s soft, buttery and easy to make in a skillet with a handful of simple ingredients. This naan bread recipe is even more delicious than your favorite Indian restaurant.

Homemade Naan Bread Recipe

tsp yeast

½ cup full-fat Greek yogurt (room temperature)

TBS olive oil

tsp sea salt

tsp baking powder

all-purpose flour

salted butter (melted (for brushing))

cilantro (chopped (Optional garnish))

In the bowl of a standing mixer, combine water yeast and honey. Let sit until foamy.

Add milk, yogurt and olive oil to the yeast mixture and stir to combine.

Add 2 cups flour, baking powder and sea salt and stir until incorporated.

Add additional flour ¼ to ½ cup at a time until the dough forms a ball and is only very slightly tacky.

Turn onto a floured surface and knead until smooth.

Lightly grease a large bowl, add dough and cover with a wet towel let rise until doubled.

Once doubled, punch down the dough to release gas.

Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces (I recommend weighing the dough to ensure they are all the same size).

Roll each piece of dough into ¼” thick oval or circle.

Preheat a 10” round skillet over medium heat.

Brush one side of the naan dough circle with melted butter and place it buttered side down on the preheated skillet.

Immediately butter the other side (that is facing up) and lightly sprinkle it with garlic salt.

Cook until large bubbles form (about 2-3 minutes)

Flip and cook on the second side until browned (about 2 more minutes)

If desired, sprinkle warm naan on one side with fresh cilantro.

Remove from heat, let cool slightly and serve warm.

Water

Active Dry Yeast ((1 packet))

Sugar

Flour

Plain Greek Yogurt

Tablespoons Extra-Virgin Olive Oil ((plus more for cooking))

In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir. Let sit for 5-10 minutes and allow the yeast to bubble and proof. *

In a large bowl, add flour, greek yogurt, oil, and salt. Stir in yeast mixture. Combine with hands. The dough may be shaggy but keep mixing until you form a ball. Once you form a ball, knead the dough for about 5-10 minutues or until the dough is smooth.

Cover and set aside in a warm place to rise for at least 1 hour. It should double in size.

Remove from the bowl and place on a counter or board sprinkled with flour. Divide dough into 8 equal portions. Roll into approximately 8&quot; circle or rectangle, about 1/8&quot; thick.

Heat skillet or cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Drizzle pan with oil. Add each naan and reduce heat to medium. Watch for it to begin to bubble. The oil makes a difference in allowing the naan to puff up and bubble. Cook for about 3 minutes on the first side and then flip and cook for 2 minutes longer.

Watch the naan carefully as you may want to lower the heat if it becomes too brown too fast. Remove from pan and brush with melted butter and serve immediately.

I make a lot of sourdough starter breads, but my kids specifically ask for their yeast naan bread. This is their favorite naan,  I have to hide a few pieces for myself.

Homemade Griddle Naan Bread

water (warmed

active dry yeast ((.25 ounce))

all purpose flour (plus more for dusting work surface)

plain Greek yogurt

butter

garlic (minced)

Add warm water to a small bowl.  Sprinkle packet of yeast on top of the water.  Sprinkle ½ teaspoon of the granulated sugar on the yeast.  Stir water, yeast, and sugar together, and let stand on the counter for about 5-10 minutes, until mixture is foamy.

Add flour and salt to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook.  Mix together briefly.  Add yogurt, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, the remaining sugar, and the yeast mixture to the flour.  Mix on low speed until combined.  Then, increase  speed to medium and mix for about 8 minutes.

Turn the dough out of the bowl and knead together briefly to form a smooth ball.  Rub about 1 tablespoon of olive oil on the insides of a clean large bowl.  Place the dough ball in the oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and place on the counter at room temperature to rise for about 1 hour, until the dough has doubled in size.

After 1 hour, punch down the dough a bit and turn it out onto a floured surface.

Divide the dough into 8 equally-sized portions.  Roll out each portion of dough into an oval shape about 8 inches in length.

Heat griddle to about 450℉.  Add about 1 tablespoon of your favorite high heat cooking oil to the heated surface and spread it around with your spatula.  Place a small skillet or saucepan on the griddle as it is heating up.  Add 4 tablespoons of butter and the minced garlic to the skillet.  Stir occasionally as the butter is melting.  When butter is melted, remove the pan from the griddle so as not to burn the garlic.

Place one piece of the rolled naan dough on the hot griddle surface.  Cook on the first side for about 1-2 minutes, or until the bottom turns a light golden brown and the dough puffs up a bit.  Flip to the second side and cook another 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

When naan bread is done cooking, brush with the melted butter and garlic mixture.  Then, remove from the griddle.  Place the next piece of dough on the griddle, and repeat the cooking steps.

As each piece of naan bread is done cooking, stack on a plate and cover with a clean tea towel to keep warm.  Serve warm.
