How to make delicious Teriyaki Chicken Donburi. Juicy pan fried chicken thigh cooked in a sweet teriyaki sauce with a garlic kick served on a bed of fluffy, Japanese style white rice then topped with chopped green onion and a soft boiled egg.

Garlic Teriyaki Chicken Donburi (照り焼き丼)

Eggs

Chicken thigh

salt and pepper

tbsp oil

⅓ (40 grams) Spring onion (scallion)

Bowls of Cooked Rice

tbsp Soy sauce

tbsp Sake

tsp Mirin

Honey

Sugar

Garlic paste (or garlic

tbsp Chopped spring onion

tbsp Mayonnaise

Nori

Chili threads

Fill a small pan with water and bring to a boil.

Once boiling, turn down the heat to a simmer so that it's not bubbling too much when you add the egg.

Add the eggs to the pan, turn up the heat and set a timer for 6 minutes.

Once 6 minutes have passed, transfer the eggs straight to the ice cold water to stop the cooking process.

Soft Boiled Egg

Sprinkle the chicken thigh with salt and pepper on both sides.

Once the pan is hot, add 1 tbsp oil and place the chicken thigh skin face down.

Once the skin is browned and crispy, flip the chicken over and cover with a lid. Cook for 3 minutes.

Cut the spring onion into diagonal pieces. (about 1 inch or 2 cm pieces.)

Once 3 minutes is up, remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.

Add the spring onion to the pan and fry in the chicken juices for a few minutes until softened slightly.

Put the chicken back in the pan and add 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp sake, 1 tsp mirin, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tbsp honey and 1 tsp garlic paste.

Move the chicken around the pan so that the sauce covers the surface, cook until the sauce is thick and like a syrup.

Fill two bowls with rice, make sure to leave enough space for chicken.

Place the chicken and spring onion on top of the rice, make sure to drizzle any excess teriyaki sauce over the top.

Drizzle with mayonnaise, sprinkle with chopped spring onion and/or nori.

Cut the soft boiled eggs in half and place two halves in the centre of each bowl. (I make a nest with chopped spring onion to stop it from rolling.) Add chili threads / chili flakes for decoration and a spicy kick!

GARNISH (OPTIONAL)
• 2 tbsp Chopped Welsh onion
• 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
• ¼ sheet of Nori (cut into small strips)
• Chili threads

Flaky and tender salmon with a delicious homemade teriyaki sauce, baked to perfection for an easy healthy dinner option.

Baked Teriyaki Salmon

Skinless Salmon Fillets (about 6 oz each)

Green Onion (sliced)

Tbsp Sesame Seeds

⅓ Cup Low-sodium soy sauce

¼ Cup Fresh orange juice

Water

Tbsp Honey

Garlic Cloves (minced)

Tbsp Minced fresh ginger

Tsp Chili Flakes (or to taste)

Lemon (juiced)

½ Tbsp Gluten-free flour

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

In a small bowl whisk together all teriyaki sauce ingredients. Spray a baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and place the salmon in.

Pour the sauce over then bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until cooked through and flaky.

Once the salmon is cooked, remove from the oven, and spoon over with the thickened sauce from the baking dish.

Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Enjoy!

A perfectly flaky and tender salmon recipe that’s made with an easy homemade teriyaki sauce and baked to perfection. Makes for a perfect lunch or dinner recipe that can be ready in less than 30 minutes.

One of the staple sauces I always have in my fridge is a bottle of homemade teriyaki sauce. Authentic teriyaki sauce actually only requires 4 basic ingredients but I love to add some garlic and ginger in mine for extra flavour.I also shared two recipe options below--the first is a more authentic teriyaki sauce while the second is an alternative teriyaki sauce recipe that don’t use any mirin or sake.

Easy Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

sake (or add more mirin)

mirin

soy sauce

sugar ((55 g))

garlic ginger

tbsp corn starch

water

soy sauce (see notes)

sugar (or adjust according to desired sweetness)

ginger garlic

tbsp room temperature water

Heat a medium-sized sauce pan over medium heat.

Add in the sake, mirin, soy sauce, and sugar.

Leave to simmer over medium high heat until it starts to boil.

Add in the garlic and ginger, if using. Keep mixing until the sugar has completely dissolved.

Leave to boil over medium high heat until the sauce starts to thicken a little. Note that the sauce will not thicken like a glaze but will slightly thicken from the sugars. If using as a marinade or sauce to cook other dishes, you can opt not to thicken it like a glaze.

If you’d like to thicken this sauce into a glaze, prepare the cornstarch slurry by mixing the cornstarch and water together.

While mixing, pour in the slurry into the teriyaki sauce and leave to boil until it thickens.

Mix well and then when it boils, lower the heat. Continue stirring to ensure the starch doesn&#039;t stick at the bottom of the pan.

Once it thickens, taste the sauce, and adjust the seasonings accordingly. Turn off the heat. It’ll continue to thicken as it cools.

Transfer the sauce/glaze into a jar and leave it to cool completely before storing. See storage tips below.

Enjoy your teriyaki sauce/glaze by cooking it with your favourite protein, as a sauce for noodles, fried rice, or as a delicious marinade—it’s totally up to you! Teriyaki sauce is really so versatile.

Teriyaki Sauce (Option 1)

Once it thickens, taste the sauce, and adjust the seasonings accordingly. Turn off the heat. It’ll continue to thicken as it cools.

Teriyaki Sauce (Option 2)

Transfer the teriyaki sauce in a jar. Leave the sauce/glaze to cool completely before covering. Refrigerate until ready to use. It can be stored for up to 1 month (or even longer!)

You can also refrigerate the teriyaki glaze the same way but note that the cornstarch can clump together so you’ll need to shake or mix the sauce well before using. You can also heat it to completely dissolve the clumps.
