This truly is the Best Christmas Ham Recipe!  A most tender ham is the result from baking in a delicious honey-brown sugar-butter-and-orange juice glaze...divine!  And perfect for the holidays.

Best Christmas Ham Recipe

water or ginger ale

butter

cup brown sugar

tbsp honey

tbsp mustard

orange juice

Using a sharp knife, score the the top of the ham diagonally, with the lines about 1 inch apart.  Don’t score too deep, the lines should only be a at the most about 1/4 inch deep.  (See the pictures above)

Add about 1/2 cup water or ginger ale to the bottom of the pan.  I use ginger ale because I really like the extra bit of sweetness it adds.

Cover the ham with tin foil and bake for approximately 1 1/2 hours.

While it&#8217;s baking you can make the glaze to add later.

BAKING THE HAM:

In a saucepan over low-medium heat, melt the butter.  Then stir in the brown sugar, honey, mustard, and orange juice. Cook until the sugar dissolves, stirring often.  Don&#8217;t let the mixture boil, you only want to gently dissolve the sugar.

When the glaze is done it should be slightly thick.  As it cools it will thicken more as well.

MAKING THE GLAZE:

After the 1 1/2 hours, take the ham out of the oven, and drizzle the glaze all over the top of the ham, and in all the crevices.

Remove the tin foil, and continue baking for about 30 minutes more.

When the ham is done baking, remove it from the oven and spoon the glaze all over the ham.

Then let the ham rest under tin foil for about 15 minutes before carving.

Pour the honey all over the ham.

Heat through on low (about 3 hours).

Remove the ham and place on a baking sheet.

In a small bowl, mix together the sugar and spices.

Pat the sugar mixture all over the outside of the ham.

Place the ham under the broiler (make sure it is not too close to the top broiler. If it is, move it to a lower oven rack).

Set the oven to broil on high for 4-5 minutes. Watch the ham closely! When food is cooking under the broiler it can start to burn very quickly. You’re looking for the sugar to start bubbling and caramelizing.

The sugar will be VERY HOT so let the ham rest for a few minutes so that the sugar cools.

Honey Baked Ham is traditionally served cold, but you can serve this ham warm if you’d like.

There are a lot of recipes for copycat honey baked hams, but the best comes from a book full of “secret” recipes by Todd Wilbur. If you love trying to recreate restaurant classics at home, you should definitely take a look at his book. We tweaked his recipe slightly and are sharing how to get that crispy sugary crust on your homemade hams.
 
WHAT DOES SPIRAL CUT HAM MEAN?
Although some hams come unsliced, many hams you can buy at the store will say “spiral cut”. So what does this mean? It means there is one continuous cut around the bone of the ham. The slices are generally thin and even, making it really easy to serve to guests.

HOW DO YOU MAKE HONEY BAKED HAM?
There are 3 steps to remaking a honey baked ham.
Heat a spiral sliced ham.
Coat it with it with a sugary topping.
Heat that sugar topping until it melts and becomes “crusted” on the ham.

Ingredients
Spiral Baked Ham
½ cup honey
Sugar Topping:
¾ cup white sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ teaspoon cloves
¼ teaspoon paprika
Dash of ginger
Dash of onion powder

How to Make HONEY BAKED HAM RECIPE {Copycat Recipe}

My easy-to-make glazed honey ham is the perfect Christmas or Easter main course centerpiece to a fabulous family meal that everyone will love! This delicious ham is glazed with rich butter, sweet brown sugar, sticky honey, and studded with cloves to create an amazing main dish!

Glazed Honey Ham

lb ham ((ready-to-eat, pre-cooked ham))

butter ((melted))

preheat

Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C) and prepare a roasting pan with a rack. For easy cleanup, line your roasting pan with aluminum foil. *The baked-in honey glaze is extremely sticky!

(Optional) If desired, score the ham in a diamond pattern and place cloves onto the ham.

In a microwave-safe mixing bowl, melt the butter then add the brown sugar and honey. Mix until well combined. Heat in 15 second increments if needed to make the mix more liquid and melt the sugar.

Place ham into your roasting pan and pour the honey glaze over the ham. Use a basting brush to coat the entire ham surface as needed.

bake

Bake at 325°F (163°C) for 50 minutes to an hour. Baste the ham with glaze in 15 minute intervals, making sure that you close the oven door to retain heat. If desired, broil for the last 5 minutes to caramelize the glaze before removing from the oven.

rest

Remove your ham from the oven when it reaches 135°F (57°C) and cover loosely with a sheet of aluminum foil. Allow the ham to rest for 20 minutes before slicing and serving.

Country-Style Ham Salad 

1.5 lbs thick slab ham, fully cooked and roughly chopped

celery, roughly chopped

white onion, finely diced

mayo

sweet relish

dijon mustard

black pepper

Country-Style Ham Salad

Add the ham, hard-boiled egg, celery, and onion to a large food processor and pulse until the mixture is evenly minced.

In a large bowl, combine the mayo, relish, dijon, and pepper. Stir until combined.

Add the ham mixture to the large bowl and mix until evenly combined.

Cover and chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
