This Easy Instant Pot Goulash is a one pot meal. Ground beef, spaghetti sauce, diced tomatoes, onion, garlic and macaroni noodles. All topped with cheese!

INSTANT POT GOULASH (WITH GROUND BEEF)

lb beef

onion, (finely diced)

green pepper, (diced (optional))

garlic, (minced)

tomatoes

(24 oz) jar spaghetti sauce

water

Italian seasoning

salt and pepper, (to taste)

(16 oz) box macaroni noodles ((3 cups))

cheddar cheese, (for topping)

In a 6.5-quart electric pressure cooker, press the sauté option and put on high.

Brown and crumble the ground beef along with the diced onion and green pepper.

If the beef produces a lot of grease, then drain. If not, then there is no need.&nbsp;

Stir in minced garlic. Turn off sauté setting.&nbsp;

Pour in diced tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, water and Italian seasoning.&nbsp;

Finally, stir in macaroni noodles. Seal the lid, then turn the pressure release valve to "Sealing"

Set pressure cooker on high for 5 minutes. Once finished, do a quick pressure release (carefully turn the pressure release valve to venting)

Open lid and stir mixture. Serve in a bowl topped with shredded cheddar cheese or grated Parmesan cheese.&nbsp;

Instant Pot Goulash

Turn the Instant Pot to saute. Cook ground beef and onion, stirring often, until beef is browned and onion is translucent, about 4 minutes. (If using regular ground beef instead of lean, you may want to drain remaining fat before continuing)

Add Italian seasoning, salt and pepper and cook 1 minute.

Add water and scrape the bottom of the pressure cooker with a wooden spoon to remove any bits that might have stuck on the bottom. (*You risk getting the burn message if there is anything stuck on the bottom of the pot!)

Turn the Instant Pot off and add the macaroni. Do not stir, simply sprinkle on top of the ground beef in an even layer. Press down lightly.

Cover the macaroni with the diced tomatoes and pasta sauce, doing your best to cover all of the pasta.

Put the lid on, turn the valve to sealing, and select Manual or Pressure Cook, high pressure, and set the cook time to 2 minutes. It will take about 10-15 minutes to build pressure and begin counting down.

When the cook time is up, turn the Instant Pot off and open the valve to release the pressure.

It will look like a lot of liquid on the top, but once you stir the sauce will coat the pasta and it will not be watery. Serve.

Brown Ground Beef in Instant Pot: Press “Saute” button to “Sauté More” function to heat up Instant Pot. Wait until the indicator says “HOT” (~8mins). Season the ground beef generously with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Add 1 tbsp (15ml) olive oil in Instant Pot, and make sure the oil is coated over the whole bottom of the pot. Add in ground beef. After 5 minutes of browning, remove the ground beef juice. *Pro Tip: The ground beef juice is fatty, but it contains a lot of flavor. It&#039;s up to you to discard or reserve it for later. Continue to brown the ground beef, and stir occasionally until they are slightly crisped and browned (~5 – 7 mins). Taste and adjust the seasoning with more kosher salt and ground black pepper.

Sauté Onion and Green Pepper: If your ground beef is very lean, you may need to add in 1 extra tbsp oil at this point. Add diced onions &amp; green pepper in Instant Pot, then saute for 3 minutes.

Sauté Garlic and Spices: Add in 1.5 tsp (1.8g) dried basil, 1.5 tsp (1.2g) dried oregano, minced garlic cloves, and 3 tbsp (45g) tomato paste, then saute for another minute.

Deglaze Instant Pot: Pour ½ cup (125ml) unsalted chicken stock in Instant Pot, then deglaze by scrubbing all the flavorful brown bits off the bottom of the pot. *Pro Tip: Make sure to deglaze really well for this goulash recipe!

Pressure Cook Goulash: Add in 1 tbsp (15ml) fish sauce, 2 tbsp (30ml) regular soy sauce, 1 tbsp (15ml) Worcestershire sauce, and the previously reserved beef juice (optional). Give it a quick mix. Add in 1lb (454g) elbow macaroni or ditali. Pour in 1½ cup (375ml) unsalted chicken stock and 2 cups (500ml) cold water. *Pro Tip: Make sure all the pasta are fully submerged in the liquid. Pour in 1 can of crushed tomatoes with all the juice on top. Do not mix! With Venting Knob in Venting Position, close the lid, then turn Venting Knob to Sealing Position. Pressure cook at High Pressure for 4 minutes + Gradual Quick Release. When the floating valve drops, turn the Venting Knob to the Venting position. Open the lid carefully.*Pro Tip - Gradual Quick Release: Use a wooden spoon to turn the venting knob just a bit so the steam starts to come out gently. This pressure release method prevents splatter, and it&#039;ll take longer than a normal Quick Release.

Stir and Season: It will look a bit too saucy at first, that’s normal! Once you start stirring, it&#039;ll all come together nicely &amp; tasty. Taste and season with more salt if necessary (for reference: we added roughly 1 – 2 pinches of salt to season the dish properly).

Serve Goulash: If you have some parsley on hand, finely slice them, then garnish the Goulash. Serve &amp; enjoy~

Instant Pot Hamburger Helper is a simple, economical, family-favorite recipe that comes together in under 30 minutes featuring tender noodles, ground beef, and a deliciously seasoned sauce.

Instant Pot Hamburger Helper

low-sodium beef stock/broth

garlic powder

onion powder

paprika

elbow noodles (about 8 ounces)

Worcestershire Sauce

Preheat

Turn Instant Pot to saute, add oil, and let heat.   

Brown

Once the oil has heated, add in the meat and brown it fully, breaking it up into small pieces. Once the meat is cooked, turn off the pressure cooker. Drain off any fat and return the inner pot back to the inner pot.

Deglaze

Add 1 cup of beef broth to the inner pot and use a spatula or spoon to scrape up all the browned bits off the bottom of the inner pot.

Season

Add in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, paprika, and Worcestershire sauce, and stir well to combine. 

Add in noodles and gently push them down into the sauce. You want the noodles just submerged into the liquid. Top the noodles with tomato sauce.

Cook

Set to cook on high pressure for 3 minutes (hit manual or pressure cook and adjust time by using +/_ buttons until the timer reads 3). 

Pressure Release

Once the cooking time has elapsed, let the pressure release naturally for 5 minutes. Then do a quick release of any remaining pressure--be sure to stand away from the vent knob when releasing pressure. 

Serve

Fluff the noodles with a fork to incorporate everything. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed and serve.

Instant Pot Goulash is an easy one pot meal made with ground beef, macaroni pasta and cheese in a flavorful tomato-based sauce. This comfort food classic is family-friendly and perfect for a weeknight dinner!

elbow macaroni pasta (uncooked, 9 ounces by weight)

parsley (optional, for serving)

Press Saute on the Instant Pot. When the pot is hot, add the ground beef and cook, crumbling, until browned. Drain excess grease if desired.

Add the onion and cook until softened, about 2 minutes.

Add the garlic and bell pepper and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Press Cancel to turn off the saute function.

Pour in the broth and stir, scraping up any bits stuck to the bottom of the pot.

Add the Italian seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Stir.

Add the pasta to the pot and press it down into an even layer in the liquid but do not stir. It is ok if the pasta is not all covered by the liquid. Put the diced tomatoes and tomato sauce on top of the pasta. Do not stir.

Close the Instant Pot lid and move the steam release valve to the sealing position. Set the cook time to 4 minutes at high pressure. The Instant Pot will take about 15 minutes to reach pressure and then the cook time will start counting down.

When the cook time ends, do a quick release of the pressure by carefully moving the valve to the venting position. When the pin drops down open the Instant Pot lid.

The goulash may look a little watery and some of the pasta may be slightly stuck together. Stir gently and the extra liquid will be absorbed and the pasta will separate.

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese. Serve, topped with fresh parsley if desired.

Carefully drain fat and return meat to pot.

Stir in onion and cook, stirring regularly, until onion has softened, about 2 minutes.

Add the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, stirring regularly.

Press CANCEL.

Stir in the diced tomatoes with juice, tomato sauce, water, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, and soy sauce. Try to scrape up all of the browned bits from the bottom of the inner pot if possible.

Stir in the noodles.

Place bay leaf on top.

Close and lock the lid.

Turn the pressure release valve to SEALING.

Press MANUAL and adjust to high pressure for 4 minutes. It should take about 10 minutes for the Instant Pot to come to pressure.

When cooking is finished, quickly release the pressure by carefully turning the pressure release valve to VENTING.

Take out bay leaf.

Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Stir the goulash and serve.
