In a mixing bowl, stir together the cream cheese, sun dried tomatoes, basil and salt and pepper to taste until well combined.

Spread half of the cream cheese mixture over the entire surface of each tortilla.

Towards one end of the tortillas, place two slices of mozzarella cheese on each.

Top the mozzarella with lettuce leaves, and then slices of pepperoni and salami.

Careful and tightly roll the tortillas closed around the filling.

Tightly wrap the tortilla in tin foil or plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least one hour.

Use a sharp knife to slice the tortilla into pinwheels before serving.

Allow the refrigerated pie crust to sit on the counter for about 10-15 minutes. Unroll the crust into a flat circle.

Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on top of the pie crust, reaching all of the way to the edges.

Top with a single layer of prosciutto; overlapping in some places is fine.

Add mozzarella and Parmesan; sprinkle with Italian seasoning.

Tightly roll up the pie crust, pressing gently to seal the seam. Wrap in foil; refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight).

When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil that has been sprayed lightly with nonstick spray. Remove the foil wrap and slice the roll crosswise into ½-inch thick rounds. You should have about 14-16 rounds. I typically discard the tapered ends.

Arrange pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for about 11 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and lightly browned and the pastry is golden brown. Cool slightly, then serve warm or at room temperature. Garnish with fresh herbs, if desired.

Italian Pinwheels with Cream Cheese Spread are a perfect lunchbox treat or game day appetizer. These easy roll-ups can be made in just minutes—even the kids can help!

Italian Pinwheels with Cream Cheese Spread

cream cheese (softened)

garlic salt

pepperoncini (optional)

red peppers (optional)

burrito-sized flour tortillas

salami (about 2” in diameter)

pepperoni (about 3” in diameter)

deli ham

green leaf lettuce

Combine the cream cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic salt, Parmesan cheese, pepperoncini (if using), and roasted red peppers (if using) in a medium-sized mixing bowl until well-blended and smooth. 

Spread ⅓ of the cream cheese mixture onto one tortilla, making sure to spread the cream cheese all the way to the edges—this is the “glue” of the pinwheel. 

Leaving about 2” uncovered on the left side of the tortilla, layer ⅓ of the salami (8 slices) on the remaining part of the tortilla. Top with ⅓ of the pepperoni (6 slices), ⅓ of the ham (3 slices), and ⅓ of the provolone cheese (4 slices).

In the middle of the tortilla, place a few leaves of green lettuce vertically. 

Starting from the side opposite from the empty area you left, roll tightly, stopping regularly to gently squeeze the rollup to adhere everything together. When you get to the end, give everything a good gentle squeeze to make sure it sticks together.

Place the rollup on a small baking sheet, and repeat with the remaining ingredients to make a total of three rollups.

Place the baking sheet in the fridge, and chill the rolls (uncut) for at least an hour.

When chilling time is up, remove a roll from the baking sheet and place on a cutting board. Using a serrated knife, cut off the first inch of the roll (this scrap part doesn’t look pretty, but it sure does taste good!). Then cut 1-inch slices down the roll. You should get about six full slices per roll. Serve immediately, or refrigerate and enjoy within 2-3 days.
