Jamaican Spice bun is a sweet bread that is very popular in Jamaica, It is moist,  with warm spices and plump dried fruits. I'm so excited to share with you my vegan, gluten-free version of this Jamaican staple.

Jamaican Spice Bun

all purpose gluten-free flour

organic cane sugar

flaxseeds

baking powder

cinnamon

nutmeg

ginger

salt

almond milk

sunflower oil

molasses

vanilla

fruits raisins, cherries, cranberries etc

Preheat oven 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking pan with parchment paper and lightly spray, set aside.

Place all the dry ingredients in a bowl and mix, gluten-free all-purpose flour, sugar, ground flaxseeds, baking powder, spices, salt. For the gluten-free flour, I used Krusteaz All-Purpose Gluten-Free flour. 

Combine almond milk, sunflower oil, vanilla in a bowl and mix well. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and mix to form a batter. Fold the dried fruits into the batter. Scoop batter into baking pan. 

Bake in the center of the oven for  60-75 minutes or until a fork inserted in the middle comes out clean. Transfer baking pan onto a cooling rack, meanwhile,  prepare the glaze.

Spread the glaze on the warm spiced bun. Remove the bun from the pan and allow to cool completely. Delicious served with my Vegan Cheddar Cheese. 

Combine sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil on medium heat while stirring until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and brush on your Easter Bun. 

Can't wait to try this with the exact same ingredients as this one.

Hi Michelle, This recipe was easy also delicious.  I made a few changes to the ingredients.  I used unbleached all-purpose flour,  also I only use half cup cane sugar and maple syrup for molasses. Although for the changes  it turn out great with the house smelling like Christmas because off the spices uses.   I'm 72 years young  and enjoy making things for myself that what keep  me healthy.

Absolutely loved this recipe! We finished this bun in two days flat (it’s THAT good) and it’s such a fantastic recipe. I didn’t realise how easy it was to make at home, and now that I do, it’ll be a monthly treat and I am never buying Storebought bun again - this is 10x better than storebought!  This one is moist (the perfect texture) delicious and that glaze is fantastic!! My husband loved it so much that he spoke about it non stop for the last two days! Thanks so much Michelle!

I love seeing the similarities in the foods of the Caribbean... this is basically the same as our sweetbread in T&amp;T, with the only difference I notice is that we put grated coconut in it.  It looks like you are correct in describing it as "addictive" from reading the other comments so I might try it your way soon.

I just want you to know that I have made this recipe about 3 times now, and I'm planning to make it again on labor day. It turns out delicious every time, much better than the packaged bun I buy at the store when I'm in Jamaica. My partner and I both love it!

OMG!!! This is sooooooo good!! I decided to make mini loaves and used all-purpose flour and all raisins because that's the only dried fruit I happen to have on hand, but this is amazing! I have to admit to tasting the batter before it went in the oven and that too was yummy, lol! This is a keeper for sure. Thank you for sharing such a special recipe. XO

The flavours in this spice bun reminds me of a Christmas cake I make. Love those warming spices, and the texture of this cake looks amazing!

Considering I put a 1/4 cup of milk too much, this tuned out so much better than I expected. Better than the store bought one I sampled last week.  I used regular flour, half coconut sugar and half regular brown sugar, raisins, dried sour cherries and chopped dried figs. I might add more spices next time. Thanks a BUNch!
