This healthier french toast recipe not only tastes amazing but is also lower in sugar and higher in both protein and fiber than regular french toast! It's ideal for using up old, stale bread and can easily be made dairy-free as well. Enjoy topped with your favorite fruit and yogurt.

Healthy French Toast

bread

milk

cinnamon

stevia

vanilla extract

banana, sliced -

raspberries

blueberries

yogurt

maple syrup (optional)

In a large/wide bowl, whisk to combine egg, milk, cinnamon, stevia and vanilla extract.

Slice bread into halves (so it's in the shape of a triangle).

Heat up oil in a non-stick skillet over low heat.

Dip one piece of bread into egg mixture for 1-2 seconds on each side, and transfer to skillet immediately. Cook for 1.5-2 minutes on each side or until golden.

Repeat steps for remaining slices of bread.

Plate up your French toasts and top them off with yogurt, fruits and maple syrup (if using). Enjoy!

Homemade croutons are the perfect touch for enhancing your favorite soups and salads. You can use just about any bread you have on hand (the recipe is written for French), but remember that loaves of different densities may take more or less time to bake to a crunchy crouton texture.&nbsp;

Homemade Croutons

unsalted butter

kosher salt (,

black pepper

garlic (, chopped)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.&nbsp;

Cut bread into 3/4-inch cubes, discarding any very tough crusts. &nbsp;You should have about 3 cups of cubes.

Melt together olive oil and butter in a small pot over medium heat. Add 1/4 teaspoon each kosher or sea salt and cracked black pepper.&nbsp;

Toss bread cubes on a baking sheet with butter mixture. Spread cubes into an even layer and bake for 15 minutes. Stir cubes and continue baking for 5-10 minutes, until dry and light golden brown. (Baking times may vary by loaf.)

While hot, sprinkle with additional kosher or sea salt and pepper, if desired. Cool to room temperature and store in an airtight container on the counter for up to 3 days, in the refrigerator for up to a week, or in the freezer for up to a month.

Basic Croutons

Add garlic to the seasoned melted butter and olive oil mixture. Simmer for 1 minute, until the garlic is fragrant, but not brown. Remove from heat and allow mixture to cool for 20 minutes.

Strain garlic from butter/oil mixture through a mesh sieve, pressing on the garlic pieces with the back of a spoon. Discard the garlic and continue with the recipe as written.

Short on time? Alternatively, you can substitute 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (add additional, to taste, if you like a stronger garlic flavor) instead of fresh chopped garlic. No need to steep.

Recipe video above. A quintessential British dessert and a firm favourite world-wide, this is custardy on the inside, and golden and buttery on the surface! While pre-sliced bread works a treat, it&#039;s dinner party-worthy when made with bread that can be cut or torn into cubes. Crunchier surface, and better custardy texture inside!This is the Aussie / British version which is far less sweet than typical American Bread Pudding recipes (but still plenty sweet in my opinion!). Toppings are not optional!

Bread and Butter Pudding

white bread,

sultanas or raisins (or more!)

eggs

milk ((low

heavy / thickened cream ((or any other cream, Note 2 for more milk option))

unsalted butter, melted and cooled

white sugar

cinnamon powder

tsp vanilla extract

Icing sugar / powdered sugar,

Ice cream, cream, custard, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, etc

Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F (all oven types)

Egg Mixture: Place eggs in a large bowl, whisk briefly. Add remaining Egg Mixture ingredients and whisk.

Soak Bread: Add bread and sultanas, briefly mix, then set aside for 3 minutes to allow egg mixture to soak through the bread.

Transfer to baking dish: Pour into a baking dish (10 cup / 2.5 litre / 2.5 quart). If you have lots of sultanas on the surface, poke them below the surface (Note 3).

Drizzle then bake: Drizzle over melted butter, then bake for 25 - 30 minutes or until golden on top and the inside is set but still slightly wobbly (poke to check).

Brush with remaining 1 1/2 tbsp melted butter (optional), then dust with icing sugar.

Serve - rest for a few ninutes, then serve immediately, with toppings of choice! My favourites are ice cream, custard and cream.
