Fresh, sweet summer cherries transform into something deeper in this simple cherry liqueur.

DIY Cherry Liqueur Recipe

Bing cherries, pitted

brandy

vodka

water

sugar

cinnamon stick, broken (optional)

Put the pitted cherries at the bottom of a sealable glass jar and muddle them with a wooden spoon or muddler to release some juice. Drain the juice into a separate container and set aside. Then add the brandy, vodka, and cinnamon stick to the muddled cherries. Seal and shake the jar. Let steep for one week at room temperature away from direct sun, shaking every few days.

Combine the reserved cherry juice, sugar, and water in a pan and bring to a boil, stirring frequently until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool. Once the syrup is cooled, add it to the steeping jar, seal, and shake. Then let it steep for an additional 2 to 5 days. Strain through fine-mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth into glass jar or bottle. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.

Delicately sweet with a hint of bitterness, a homemade chocolate liqueur made with cacao nibs is like an expensive dark chocolate bar in your drink instead of like a jigger of Nestle Quik.

Combine the cacao nibs and vodka in a sealable glass jar. Shake and then let steep for 8 days.

After the initial steeping period, bring the sugar and water to a boil. Let this syrup cool, then add to the jar along with the vanilla extract. Let steep for an additional day.

Strain out the nibs through a sieve and then filter through a coffee filter into the bottle or jar you'll use for storage.

Allspice dram is a standard of tiki cocktails, and we made our own homemade version.

Allspice Dram

Naturally made without artificial colors or flavors, this homemade peppermint liqueur is a wonderful alternative to store-bought peppermint schnapps. It&#x27;s the perfect addition to holiday-inspired cocktails and also makes a great gift.

Homemade Peppermint Liqueur

mint leaves

vodka (or enough to cover them)

Rinse the fresh mint leaves and place them in a large glass jar.

Cover the leaves with vodka until completely, or almost completely, covered.

Let the leaves infuse into the vodka for several weeks.

Strain out the leaves from your vodka. The strained liquid is a homemade peppermint extract! Save a little bit of it in a separate bottle for recipes, if you like.

Making a Peppermint Extract

Dissolve the sugar in the water in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has completely dissolved.

Remove the sugar solution from the heat source and let it cool.

Making a simple sugar syrup

To finish making your liqueur, combine the sugar syrup with the homemade peppermint extract. This part can be done to taste. I used 3 parts vodka to 1 part sugar syrup and was happy with that concentration, but you can adjust that ratio to make your liqueur more or less sweet.
