If you can't get enough of Chick-fil-A's ooey, gooey mac and cheese, we have some great news: We came up with a homemade version that tastes just as good. This cheesy bowl is the perfect complement to crispy chicken nuggets, or it's hearty enough to eat on its own as a meal.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook for 20 minutes, until the macaroni is very soft and plump. Drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside. Do not rinse it with water. If the pasta is cooked before the cheese sauce is finished, toss it with a little cooking oil to keep the noodles from sticking together.

Meanwhile, make the cheese sauce by melting the butter in a large pot over medium heat. When the butter is bubbly and melted, about 2 minutes, add the flour. Cook, stirring constantly, until the roux is frothy and smells nutty, about 3 to 5 minutes.

In a small bowl, combine the water and nonfat dry milk powder and whisk until the powder is incorporated. Slowly whisk the milk mixture into the roux and bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Cook for 10 minutes, until the liquid has thickened.

Place the egg yolk in a small bowl. Add 1/2 cup of the hot milk to the egg yolk, whisking as you add to keep the yolk from scrambling. Add a second 1/2 cup of hot milk, whisking until it's incorporated, before adding the warm egg-milk mixture back to the pot.

Remove the pot from the heat. Working quickly to keep the milk from cooling down too much, add the cheese one handful at a time, starting with the torn American cheese and moving on to the grated cheeses after the American is fully incorporated. Stir constantly until the cheese is melted before adding the next handful of cheese.

When all the cheese is added and incorporated, stir in the salt, paprika, turmeric, and annatto.

Pour the cheese sauce over the cooked macaroni and stir gently to combine. Portion the mac and cheese into individual bowls. Top with additional grated cheddar cheese and melt the cheese under the broiler, if desired.

This easy macaroni cheese and chicken parmigiana mash-up is impossible to resist.

Every Canadian kid, past and present, is familiar with Kraft Dinner. It&#39;s what we all call boxed macaroni and cheese! Here&#39;s an homemade version that tastes even better than the original!

Homemade Kraft Dinner

macaroni, (cooked according to package instructions, drained, and set aside)

heavy cream

seasoning salt

white pepper

cheddar cheese, (grated)

In a large skillet, over medium heat, add the butter and heavy cream.  Melt the butter into the cream.

Add the seasoning salt, white pepper, and turmeric.  Whisk into the cream and butter mixture until well incorporated.

Next, add the cheese.  Stir the cheese into the cream until fully melted.

Add the cooked and drained pasta to the cheese and cream sauce.  Toss everything together until the ingredients are well combined and the sauce is evenly distributed.

Remove from heat.  Serve immediately.

My mom makes this recipe for just about every family function we have, everyone loves it. I get as much of the cheese pre-grated as I can, it helps cut down on prep time.

Smoked Mac and Cheese

Butter, Unsalted

(1/2 package) Cream Cheese

½ cups gruyere cheese, shredded

Bacon,

cups, medium Cheddar Cheese, Shredded

Dijon Mustard

Sweet Rib Rub

Cook the noodles according to manufacturer’s instructions. Drain and set aside.

Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium heat and melt ½ cup of butter into the skillet. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, or until the flour smells toasty. Pour in the half and half and whisk well to combine. Bring the half and half to a boil, then reduce to heat to a simmer and whisk in the cream cheese until the cream cheese is fully melted.

Remove the skillet from the heat and whisk in the shredded cheddar, shredded gruyere, Sweet Rib Rub, and Dijon mustard until a smooth cheese sauce forms. Mix in the pasta and chopped bacon and stir well with a spatula to coat the noodles with the sauce.

Fire up your Louisiana Grill and set the temperature to 250°F. Place the skillet on the grill and smoke for 1 hour, or until the cheese is melty. Using oven mitts, carefully remove the skillet from the grill and serve immediately. Top with more bacon, if desired.

A protein-packed chili meets pasta in this One-Pot Vegan Chili Mac! Easy and quick and made with simple ingredients, this is a perfect hearty weeknight-friendly and budget-friendly dinner!

One-Pot Vegan Chili Mac

olive oil

yellow onion, diced

oz (227 grams) mushrooms, chopped (I use cremeni mushrooms)

tbsp chili powder

½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional,

½ tsp kosher salt,

vegetable broth

(28 oz / 790 grams) can crushed tomatoes, fire roasted

tomato paste

oz (340 grams) elbow pasta

2-3 tsp agave nectar, maple syrup, coconut sugar, or brown sugar

(16 grams) fresh cilantro, chopped

lime juice

vegan cheese (optional but recommended)

Vegan sour cream, for serving (optional but recommended)

red onions (optional)

In a Dutch oven (or a large nonstick soup pot), heat the 1 tablespoon oil (or 1/3 cup water) over medium heat. Once the oil is hot (or once the water is simmering), add the onions and cook for 2 minutes, seasoning with a pinch of salt. Add the garlic, mushrooms, and crumbled tempeh, and cook for 5 more minutes. Add the chili powder, paprika, oregano, cumin, cayenne pepper, and salt. Stir the spices into the vegetables and cook for 1 minute, or until fragrant.

Pour in the vegetable broth to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits on the bottom of the pot.

Add in the beans, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, corn, and pasta. Stir well to combine.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to maintain a simmer. Cook for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the pasta is cooked through but not soggy. If you want it to be a bit saucier, add a splash more of broth or water.

Season to taste with salt and pepper, and stir in the agave or other sweetener. Taste for seasonings again and adjust accordingly.

If using vegan cheese, sprinkle it all over the top of the chili mac. Cover the lid and let warm through for a few minutes. Allow chili mac to rest at least 15 minutes before serving and top with fresh chopped cilantro and any other desired toppings.

French onion with mac & cheese. The greatest culinary pairing since PB & J. The crispy golden breadcrumb, caramelised onion and gruyère topping is ridiculous.

Finely slice the onions. Get a frying pan over a medium heat. Melt a third of the butter in the pan. Add the onions with a good pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally until completely collapsed, soft and caramelised. This will take around 30 minutes.

Once the onions are cooked, pour in the white wine and add the thyme, stripping the leaves from the stalks straight into the pan. Leave to bubble away by half then take the pan off the heat. The onions can be done in advance and kept in the fridge.

Cook the macaroni in a large pan of boiling salted water for 2 minutes less than packet instructions. Drain once ready.

Meanwhile make the cheese sauce. Melt the remaining butter in a large saucepan over a medium heat. Once melted add the flour, whisk to combine - this is your roux. Whisking constantly, slowly pour the cold milk into the flour mixture, adding a little at a time, in order to get a smooth sauce. Once all the milk has been added, bubble the sauce away for 5 minutes until thickened.

Grate in all the cheddar and half the gruyere cheese. Once the cheese has melted take the sauce off the heat, add the dijon mustard and season with salt and pepper.

Add the cooked macaroni and caramelised onions into the cheese sauce, reserving a tablespoon of the onions. Mix well to combine, and then top with the remaining onions, a grating of gruyère and your breadcrumbs. Add a handful more thyme leaves.

Place under the grill until bubbling and golden brown. Remove from the oven and tuck in. Enjoy!

Making this has been pretty easy and results are spot on.
