How to Make Magic Shell

Tbsp coconut oil

Add chopped chocolate and coconut oil to a small mixing bowl and microwave in 30-second increments until fully melted and creamy, stirring occasionally to aid in the melting process. If you don't have or don't use a microwave, melt over a double boiler on the stove top.

Now you have magic shell! To use, spoon over cold desserts, such as ice cream, Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana Milkshakes, or frappuccinos!

Stir together chocolate chips and coconut oil in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Place in microwave and cook on high for 30 seconds. Remove and stir. Continue microwaving and stirring in 15 second intervals until all of the chocolate is melted and smooth.

Remove from the microwave and let it cool uncovered (stirring every 5 minutes so it cools evenly), until the chocolate is barely warm - about 20 minutes.

Pour over ice cream. Let sit for 30 seconds to harden and then enjoy!

In a microwave safe bowl place your chocolate and coconut oil. Place into a microwave for 30 seconds on high to melt together.

Remove from microwave and give a good stir, ensuring your get all the chocolate from the bottom and corners. Pop back into the microwave for another 30 seconds.

Repeat steps until you have a silky, chocolate mixture. If you want to add any essence or extracts do so now. Be sure to only add a drop or two, you won&#039;t need much in terms of flavour. But if you add too much you&#039;ll seize your chocolate.

If chocolate thickens a little too much and it no longer runs smoothly after you add your essence you can add another 1/2 tsp of coconut oil and stir together until it melts (do not place in the microwave again).

Use immediately! Pour over a big bowl of your choice of gluten and/or dairy free ice cream and within seconds it will harden to that famous chocolate shell! Finish with sprinkles, 100s and 1000s, chopped nuts or any other type of topping you like!

Cup (6 oz/170 grams) semisweet

Tablespoons Coconut Oil

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips and coconut oil.Next, microwave in 20-30 second increments, stirring well between each one. (I recommend a lower power setting (like MELT or DEFROST) if you have one for extra caution.)

Melt until the chocolate has just a few tiny bumps of chocolate chips left and stir

until the residual heat from the chocolate has melted them.

The chocolate sauce should be totally smooth and glossy.

Add flavors if you want

. If you&#8217;re adding any mix-ins (like salt, vanilla, peppermint extract, etc.) stir those in at this point.

Transfer to a jar &amp; let it cool a minute or two

so it doesn&#8217;t instantly melt the ice cream. I transfer mine to a jar for easy storage and pouring.

Homemade molten lava cakes are way easier to make than you&#x27;d think, and that hot fudge oozing out is such a crowd pleaser! Don&#x27;t forget to serve with a scoop of ice cream! 

Chocolate Molten Lava Cakes

Box Duncan Hines Fudge Cake Mix

Large Eggs

Cup Sour Cream

Cup Milk

Cup Oil

Vanilla Ice Cream (for serving)

Chocolate Shell Ice Cream Topping (for serving)

Caramel Sauce (for serving)

Can Sweetened Condensed Milk (14-oz.)

Bag Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips (12-oz.)

Tablespoons Unsalted Butter

Pure Vanilla Extract

In a large bowl, stir together the dry cake mix, eggs, sour cream, milk and oil.

Spray a large Cupcake pan with nonstick spray and evenly distribute batter 3/4 way full. Bake according to package directions.

Turn the cakes out onto their tops creating a "volcano" and allow to cool.

Using a pairing or serrated knife, gently cut a&nbsp;hole out of the center without going clear to the bottom.

Fill with hot fudge that is cool and then slice off the bottom circle of the piece of cake you removed and place it on the hot fudge hole like a lid.

Freeze for 30 minutes, up to 2 days with plastic wrap over the pan of cakes.

Remove the cakes from the freezer and reheat in the microwave until warm, about 30 seconds.

Top with ice cream, caramel, and magic shell.

Make the Lava Cakes:

Melt all of the ingredients in a medium sauce pan over medium heat.

Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.

Continue to boil and stir for two minutes.

Remove the pan from the heat and continue to stir for one minute.

Allow the fudge sauce to cool.

Make the Hot Fudge:

Place the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl along with the coconut oil and slowly heat for 30 second intervals, stirring often until melted.

Serve over cold ice cream and it will harden.

Make the Magic Shell:

Use a grapefruit spoon with a serrated edge and narrow bowl to cut the fudge hole. Easy to see the depth and size. You can sometimes pick up a single cheap one at large grocery stores.

Made this last year for my husbands birthday. He’s obsessed with Chili’s and especially their lava cake. He was so impressed with this and heavily praised it for weeks. Naturally, I’m making it again this year. Very easy to do and tastes like the real thing! I did go ahead and buy the large cupcake tin, and I’m glad I did since I’ll probably be making this once a year for the rest of my life.
