The most incredible and flavor packed Marinated Tempeh. Never eat bland tempeh again!

Marinated Tempeh

tempeh

balsamic vinegar

maple syrup

soy sauce

garlic,

olive oil

cornstarch (or arrowroot)

Prepare the tempeh: Remove tempeh from packages and steam for 10 minutes as whole blocks. slice into small triangles or cubes.

Make the marinade: In a shallow dish (such as a 9x13 inch dish) add the balsamic vinegar, maple syrup, soy sauce, garlic and olive oil. Whisk right in the dish to combine.

Marinate tempeh: Add the sliced tempeh to the shallow dish and toss to coat each piece in the marinade. Cover and let the tempeh marinate for at least an hour and up to 24 hours for more flavor. The longer you let it sit, the more flavorful it will be. Stir and toss the cubes a few times during marinating.

Cook: Heat a few tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat in a large non-stick or cast iron skillet. Add the tempeh pieces, leaving the extra marinade in the dish for now. Cook until a little golden brown on each side, flipping often with a spatula.

To finish: Pour the extra marinade from the large dish into a small bowl, and whisk in the cornstarch. Immediately add the sauce to the tempeh in the pan and stir constantly, until the sauce thickens and the tempeh is coated in the sauce.

Serve: Remove from heat and serve with basmati rice, mashed potatoes, potato wedges and perhaps some steamed kale or roasted brussels sprouts.

Marinated Sesame Peanut Tempeh Recipe

block/package of tempeh (8 ounces)

rice

broccoli

scallions

avocado

garlic (finely minced)

tbsp toasted sesame oil

low sodium tamari or soy sauce

vegetable broth

peanut butter

lime

tsp red pepper flakes

whisk sauce

Whisk together all of the ingredients for the sauce.

Cut the tempeh into squares, cut each square into triangles.

Add the tempeh to a bowl and coat with half of the sauce. Let sit for about 15 minutes to marinate. Toss it halfway through to ensure the sauce is coating every side.

steam broccoli

While the tempeh is marinating, steam the broccoli and prepare the rice. I like to use a rice cooker and steamer basket for the broccoli to make life easier.

Once the tempeh is finished marinating, heat a medium pan with 1-2 tbsp of oil over low/medium heat and add the tempeh in.

Let simmer until the sauce starts to darken, then add in half of the other half of the sauce (save the other bit for drizzling on top of the bowls).

Simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the tempeh to absorb the flavor. Flip halfway to ensure it is evenly cooked. 

serve

Assemble the bowls with a bed of rice and top with the tempeh, broccoli and an extra drizzle of the peanut sauce. 

This perfectly seasoned garlic herb baked tempeh is perfect for a meatless main or addition to sandwiches and salads.

Garlic Herb Marinated Tempeh

lb tempeh block,

garlic cloves, pressed

olive oil (30 ml)

vegan butter, melted (15 g)

balsamic vinegar (30 ml)

Italian seasoning

onion powder

sea salt

black pepper

Marinate the Tempeh

In a large container with a lid, whisk together the pressed garlic, olive oil, butter, balsamic vinegar, and spices. Add in the tempeh pieces and toss to coat. Place the lid on the container and refrigerate for at least one hour but up to overnight. 

Preheat Oven

Preheat oven to 425° F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Bake the Tempeh

Place the tempeh on a baking sheet in a single layer and transfer it to the oven. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the tempeh is golden and slightly crispy around the edges. Serve immediately.

This recipe was super tasty, and I’ll definitely make again! It’s a bit salty for my liking, but everything else was perfect. 

Surprisingly tasty and easy! We had this with potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts and topped it with a little bit of balsamic glaze. I'm usually feel so/so about tempeh and had never baked it before, but this was really quite nice. I want to try slicing it thinner and putting it in a sandwich.

SOOOO tasty!  I used the air fryer and it was AWESOME!  I may use a little less salt next time but it was DELICIOUS!
