Slow Cooker Meatballs and Gravy is easy to make with homemade or frozen meatballs!  These meatballs come out juicy, tender and are great with mashed potatoes or noodles!

Slow Cooker Meatballs and Gravy

Pounds Ground Beef

Large Egg

Worcestershire Sauce

Salt

Garlic Powder

Onion Powder

Pepper

Cup Panko or Plain Breadcrumbs

Large Onion, (Sliced)

(8 Ounce) Package Sliced Mushrooms

Cups Beef Broth

(1 Ounce) Packages Brown Gravy Mix

Tablespoon Ketchup

Teaspoon EACH Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Salt, Pepper.

Tablespoons Cold Water

Tablespoons Cornstarch

Tablespoons Olive Oil

In a large bowl, combine the beef, beaten egg, worcestershire sauce, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, and breadcrumbs using your hands, just until combined.Form the beef mixture into about 24 meatballs (about 1 1/2 inches in diameter) and set aside on a large plate.

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.When the oil is hot, add half of the meatballs to the pan and sear on each side for about 2-3 minutes until browned, transfer to the bottom of the slow cooker.Repeat with the remaining meatballs.

Place the frozen meatballs, sliced onion, and mushrooms in the bottom of your slow cooker. &nbsp;Set aside.

In a medium bowl whisk together the beef broth, gravy mix, worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and seasonings. &nbsp;Pour mixture over meatballs. &nbsp;Cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours.

Once cooked, remove the meatballs from the slow cooker and set aside. At this point if your slow cooker was on low, turn it up to high. &nbsp;Mix together the cold water and cornstarch in a small bowl. &nbsp;Whisk the cornstarch mixture into the broth for 1-2 minutes until thickened.

Return the meatballs to the slow cooker and stir gently to coat with gravy. &nbsp;Serve immediately.&nbsp;

Meatballs and Gravy with Onions

Lb Ground Beef

¼ Cup Breadcrumbs

Tablespoons Whole Milk

Italian Seasoning

Vidalia Onions – peeled, sliced

Tablespoons Butter

Tablespoons Flour

Cup Beef Broth

Cup+ Water

Salt/Pepper

These ultimate Swedish meatballs are juicy, tender, and swimming in a rich, creamy gravy spiced with nutmeg and allspice. A comfort food classic perfected over 14 years, serve with mashed potatoes or noodles and don’t skimp on the sauce!

Swedish Meatballs

bread (cut

milk

ground beef (or mixed with ground chicken)

onion

salt (or

½ teaspoon pepper (or

nutmeg (ground)

allspice (ground)

butter (unsalted)

olive oil

all-purpose flour

chicken broth (low sodium, or beef broth)

¼ teaspoon pepper (or

sour cream

Soak the bread.

Add the bread to a large mixing bowl along with the milk and toss. Set aside to let the bread soak up the milk for a couple minutes.

Combine meatball ingredients.

Add the ground meat, grated onion, egg yolks, salt, pepper, nutmeg and allspice to the bowl with the bread. Mix the meat mixture well using your clean hands. Shape the meat into 1 inch meatballs.

Cook the meatballs.

Melt the 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over  medium heat and add another tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet. Add the meatballs and fry until golden all around, about 7 minutes. If your skillet isn&#39;t big enough to fit all the meatballs, you will have to do this in batches. Transfer the meatballs to a plate.

Make gravy.

Melt the 3 tablespoons of butter in the same skillet you used for frying the meatballs. Stir and scrape all the pan drippings. Add the flour to the pan and whisk well. Add the broth and continue whisking. Season with salt and pepper and other spices if preferred. Cook for a couple minutes until the gravy thickens from the flour. Whisk in the sour cream.

Add the meatballs to the gravy.

Bring the gravy to a boil then add the meatballs to it and cook for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure meatballs don&#39;t stick to bottom of pan.

Garnish and serve.

Garnish with fresh parsley and serve over noodles or Mashed Potatoes.

This was fantastic!  Made it for company tonight.  My husband's only complaint was everyone went back for more and it didn't leave him any leftovers hehe

Need to thicken the gravey more, too runny.

I did not make this recipe yet it looks easy enough going to try it now the only thing I don’t like so far is not being able to make it without leaving a review first

These Swedish Meatballs are the mother of all meatballs in an epic creamy gravy. These savory and delicious meatballs are perfectly seasoned and spiced a hint of nutmeg and allspice. They're great served over noodles or creamy mashed potatoes.

Recipe video above. These Country Pork Meatballs are flavoured with the classic combination of pork, sage and thyme, and are smothered with a rich onion gravy. The flavour reminds me of the country pork sausages at my local butcher, hence the name. It&#39;s just cosy, downright tasty, homemade comfort food. You&#39;ll love how soft the meatballs are!

Country Pork Meatballs with Onion Gravy

pork

panko breadcrumbs (, or regular breadcrumbs)

green onion

garlic

sage ((don't skip this! Key flavour))

onion garlic

tsp paprika (,regular/sweet (or smoked, not spicy))

thyme

tsp cooking salt / kosher salt

tsp black pepper

/ 2 tbsp unsalted butter (, or olive oil)

onions

garlic (, finely minced)

tbsp flour ((all purpose / plain))

beef stock (, low sodium)

tsp cooking/kosher salt

potato

parsley (, for garnish (optional))

Meatball mixture - Put the meatball ingredients in a bowl and mix well with your hands until combined.

Roll - Portion and roll into 20 meatballs, 2 1/2 tbsp each (I use an ice cream scoop to portion onto a tray, then roll with hands to finish).

Brown outside - Heat the oil on medium high in a large non-stick pan. Brown the meatballs - I usually do 3 to 4 sides, rolling with 2 spoons, taking about 6 to 7 minutes. Keep the inside raw as we will finish cooking in the gravy. Remove meatballs out back onto the tray.

Sauté onion - Add the butter and let it melt. Turn the heat up to high and add the onion. Cook for 3 minutes or until floppy, then add the garlic and cook for another 1 minute (it smells amazing!).

Thicken gravy - Add the flour and stir for 1 minute. While stirring, slowly pour in half the stock. As the flour mixture dissolves in and the stock heats up, it will start to thicken and become like a paste coating the onion. Then pour in the remaining beef stock, salt, pepper and dark soy or gravy browner (if using). Mix to combine.* This method helps to ensure your gravy is lump free! *

Simmer with meatballs - Return the meatballs into the gravy and bring it to a simmer. Let it cook for 5 minutes until the gravy thickens into a thin gravy consistency, rolling the meatballs every now and then. The gravy will thicken more as it cools, while serving and waiting to eat, so don&#39;t take it too far now.

Serve the meatballs over mash, sprinkled with a pinch of parsley if using.

Here’s how this recipe inspires me: 

Do you ever wonder why the meat is shaped into balls, when shaping into patties (like falafel) would make it easier to cook them or stuff them into bread for sandwiches? I suppose they wouldn’t need as long a cook time, 

Whenever I make “Bombs” (my Bubbie’s matzoh balls baked in an onion gravy), my onion gravy uses ~16-20 sliced onions cooked down in ~1/4-1/3 c. chicken stock, with sweet smoked paprika and ground white pepper. I’ll either make it that way or your way, or just caramelize a lot of onions in schmaltz w/ the smoked paprika and white pepper, but add sage — that’s the key IMO for the “country” flavor. 

For this gravy, though, I think I’ll use all leeks instead, finely shredding the dark leek greens (Alison Roman taught me to always use the entire leek, and she is so right); they’ll melt into lusciousness in the schmaltz. And my homemade chicken stock is so full of collagen that I’ll use it instead of store-bought beef “stock” — honestly, I’ve never considered anything out of a can anywhere near  a proper stock, and chicken stock is so utterly simple to make yourself: use a combination of a bones from a carcass + lots of wings and feet, and a neck or two, along with the usual vegetables (but don’t peel the onions; their skins are a natural darkener, if you care about the color). 

One last observation: I don’t like mashed potatoes except as an ingredient in, e.g., a knish stuffing or as a filler for some kind of patty or croquette. So my country pork patties will be served with garlicky smashed baby potatoes, along with a “salad” of rice, mint, and lemon, rolled in grape leaves.
