Make a mezcal margarita for a smoky spin on the classic! It's tangy and smoke-forward, giving this popular cocktail a rich depth.

Mezcal Margarita

(1 ounce) mezcal

(1 ounce) tequila blanco or reposado

(1 ounce) Cointreau

(1 ounce) fresh lime juice

For the garnish: Lime circle

Cut a notch in a lime wedge, then run the lime around the rim of a glass. Dip the edge of the rim into a plate of flaky sea salt (or for a festive look, use Margarita Salt).

Place the mezcal, tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker with 4 ice cubes and shake until cold.

Strain the margarita into the glass with the salted rim. Fill the glass with ice and serve.

Mezcal Margarita with Cucumber u0026amp; Jalapeño

Transfer mezcal the day before into a Mason jar or pitcher with a lid.

Seed and slice the jalapeño into 4 to 6 thin strips. Place into the jar or pitcher with the mezcal and cover tightly. Put into your fridge for 4 hours—or overnight.

After at least 4 hours, take out the jalapeño slices and discard.

In a pitcher or cocktail shaker, muddle the cucumber slices, lime juice and agave syrup. Don't do it too hard: you want the cucumber to get a little soft and break apart, but not get smushed. Add ice. Add mezcal. Stir or shake, con gusto.

Spread kosher salt or your favorite margarita salt on a plate. Dip your margarita glass in lime juice or water and then dip into the salt. Add new ice to your glass. Pour the mezcal margarita mixture through a strainer into the glass. Garnish with a slice or two of cucumber and a sprig of cilantro—and serve.

This unique blackberry margarita smash is made with smoky mezcal mixed with sweet blackberries, tart pomegranate juice and a subtle hint of earthy sage. These dark and moody cocktails are perfect for spooky season. Garnish with fresh sage before serving.

Blackberry Margarita Smash

– 10 fresh blackberries

sage leaves, torn

agave nectar

lime juice

pomegranate juice

mezcal

For garnish: raw sugar, fresh sage sprig

Rim glass with raw sugar and fill 3/4 with ice.

Combine blackberries, sage leaves, agave nectar and lime juice in a cocktail shaker and muddle until blackberries are smashed.

Add ice and remaining ingredients to the cocktail and shake until very cold.

Strain into glass and garnish with fresh sage before serving.

The flavor balance on this cocktail is perfect. The hint of sage added a nice complexty to the drink. I received so many compliments at our party.  I felt like a real mixologist!  Thank you for sharing.

So this is super pretty and festive. I followed the recipe to a T the first time but the Mezcal was overwhelming all the other flavors. Second attempt I reduced the mezcal and used 1.5 oz 1800 silver, then a 1/2 oz mezcal.  It was perfection! I tasted all the beautiful fruits and the smokey mezcal. Also love the glasses in the picture I would love to know where they are from.

A margarita can NOT be this good!!  It is definitely saved in my favorites for when I go visit my sister in November!!  Perfect amount of sweet, perfect amount of tang, perfect amount of liquor.  Soooooo gooooood!!!
