Baked French Fries

Place a rack in the lower third of your oven and preheat to 450 degrees F. Drizzle a large rimmed baking sheet with 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil, brushing it as needed so that it nicely coats the pan.

Scrub the potatoes and peel if desired (I leave the peels on). Slice into 1/4-inch-wide sticks. Place the potatoes in a large bowl, then pour very hot tap water over the top so that it covers the potatoes by at least 1 inch. Let sit 10 minutes.

Drain the potatoes, then transfer them to a clean towel and dry as completely as you can, changing the towel as needed. Rinse and wipe out the bowl you soaked the potatoes in, then return the potatoes to the bowl. Drizzle with the remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil and sprinkle with salt, garlic powder, dill weed, onion powder, and pepper. Toss to coat, making sure the spices and oil are well distributed. Spread the potatoes into a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

Roast in the lower third of the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, until turning golden underneath. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and, with a large, firm spatula, carefully loosen the fries from the bottom of the pan. Flip them in large sections as best as you can so that the potatoes rotate and brown evenly on all sides (no need to painstakingly flip every single one). With your fingers (be careful—the pan is hot!) return the potatoes to a single layer. Place the pan back in the oven and continue baking until the fries are as golden and crisp as you like, about 5 to 10 additional minutes (30 minutes total was ideal timing for this crispy-fry lover). While the fries are hot, sprinkle with any desired toppings and a bit more salt to taste. These extra crispy oven baked French fries put a healthier spin on one of your favorite foods! Made with just a light splash olive oil, these crispy oven baked fries are super tasty without all the grease.

Extra Crispy Oven Baked French Fries

Russet baking potatoes,

olive oil

Sea salt,

Black pepper, freshly ground

Optional French fry seasonings: paprika Parmesan cheese

Adjust your oven racks, positioning them in the best way to cook two trays of potatoes at once. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

Rinse and peel the Russet potatoes. Slice the potatoes into long thin strips, about 1/4-inch thick. As you&#8217;re slicing away, place the cut potatoes into a large deep bowl filled with cold water. Make sure the potatoes are completely submerged. Allow the potatoes to soak for 20-30 minutes, changing the water half way through the soaking time.

Drain off the water and place the potatoes in a colander. Rinse, rinse, rinse away the starch! Thoroughly dry off the potatoes so there&#8217;s no sign of water on any slice.

Place the dried-off potatoes in a clean bowl. Add in the olive oil. Sprinkle the potatoes with salt, pepper and optional seasonings. Toss the potatoes to evenly coat the whole batch in the oil and seasonings.

Line two cookie sheets with silicone baking mats or parchment paper. Arrange the oven fries in a single layer on each baking sheet, making sure there is room between each of the oven fries and no two fries are touching. Overlapping potatoes will not become crispy.

Place the trays in the oven and bake for about 45 minutes, flipping the fries at least 2-3 times during the baking process. Your oven baked French fries are done once they become golden and crispy and do not bend when lifted.

If desired, sprinkle additional seasonings on your oven baked fries. Serve immediately. Enjoy!

Best results I've had so far with oven baked fries. I used a convection oven and could have used thicker cut fries with success.

White sweet potatoes seasoned with sesame, nori, togarashi, and scallions make an addictive and easy-peasy snack. 

Japanese Sweet Potato Oven Fries with Wasabi Aioli

(45 g)

Position a rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat to 425ºF.

Place the sweet potato matchsticks on a large, rimmed baking sheet and sprinkle with the oil, sesame seeds, and salt, tossing well to coat. Spread in a single layer and bake 10-15 minutes until golden on the bottom; they should release from the pan fairly easily using a thin metal spatula once they’ve developed some color. Flip the slices over and cook until golden all over, 5-10 more minutes. Sprinkle with a bit of togarashi if using (a little goes a long way!), and the slivered nori and scallion.

Meanwhile, make the aioli by stirring together the mayonnaise, wasabi, and lemon juice, adding more wasabi to taste if you like.

Serve the fries hot with the aioli for dipping.

Greek Oven Fries

Salt and black pepper

Extra virgin olive oil

garlic

thyme leaves

dry oregano

cayenne pepper (optional)

feta cheese (to your liking)

parsley (a handful to your liking)

Tzatziki sauce (Use Homemade Tzatziki Sauce Recipe)

Heat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Place the potato wedges in a large bowl and cover with hot water for 10 minutes. Drain and spread the wedges on a large, clean towel and pat very dry.  Dry the large bowl to use again.

Return the potato wedges back to the dry bowl. Season generously with Kosher salt and black pepper. Drizzle about 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Toss to combine, making sure all the potatoes are well-coated.

Arrange the potatoes in a single layer on a large, lightly oiled sheet pan (non-stick if possible). If you don&#039;t have a sheet pan that is large enough, use two pans.

Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, turning the potato wedges over after the first 20 minutes of baking. When the potatoes are crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, they are ready. Remove from the oven and carefully arrange the potatoes on a serving dish.

If using tzatziki sauce for dipping, prepare it according to this recipe, while the potatoes are baking.

In a small bowl, combine 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, minced garlic, thyme, oregano, and cayenne. Spoon the sauce over the hot potatoes. Add fresh parsley and crumbled feta to your liking. Serve with a side of tzatziki sauce. Enjoy!

Crispy Oven Baked French Fries

Clean potatoes and cut lengthwise into quarter-inch slices. Cut quarter-inch sticks from each of those slices and place in a medium pot. 

Parboil

Place potato sticks in a pot. Cover with cold water and add about 2 to 3 teaspoons of salt. Bring the potatoes to a boil for 3 minutes. Drain the water and ensure the fries are completely dry using a clean towel.

Season

Return the potatoes to a bowl and drizzle with olive oil and a pinch of salt. Toss to coat and transfer to a baking sheet.

Bake

Bake for 20 minutes, then flip and bake for an additional 10 minutes. (If necessary, bake the oven fries for additional time, in 3-minute intervals, until golden and crispy)

Serve

Once the fries are done, place in a bowl and season with additional pinch of salt and the chives. Serve with mayo and/or ketchup.

Homemade French Fries

lbs Russet Potatoes (, (about 3 medium)

vegetable, canola or peanut oil

Wash the russet potatoes and remove any bruises.

Cut the potato lengthwise into 1/4 to 1/2 inch thin slabs then cut the slabs into 1/4 inch thin matchsticks. Try your best to cut the potato into uniform slices to ensure the fries cook evenly.

Soak the potatoes. Put about 3 inches of water in a large pot and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, remove from the heat and place cut potatoes in the hot water to soak for 30 minutes. This is essential to remove some of the starch from the potatoes which will help them crisp while cooking.

Drain the water and lay potatoes out onto paper towels, patting them until thoroughly dry.

Preheat oven to 475 degrees. Drizzle oil over the potatoe and season with salt and pepper. Toss to combine. Spread out into an even layer on a baking sheet (I use one bakers half sheet pan per 1 cut potato), leaving space between them. Bake for 12 minutes.

Use a metal spatula to scrape potatoes loose from pan and flip to opposite side. Spread even spaced out again. Bake for an additional 8-15 minutes, or until potatoes are crisp.

Baked French Fries:

Pour 3 inches of vegetable, canola, or peanut oil into a large, deep pot and heat to 300 degrees F. Cook the fries in small batches, adding them to the hot oil, until tender, about 4-5 minutes. Remove them to a paper-towel lined plate as they cook.

Increase the heat of the oil to 400 degrees F. Return small batches at a time to the oil and cook for 1-3 minutes, until golden and crisp. Remove from oil and season with salt, to taste.

Serve with dipping sauces like fry sauce, ranch, bbq sauce, chick-fil-a sauce, tartar sauce, or serve on top of a burger, with fish and chips or Lomo Saltado.

Very delicious! I always struggle making fries but this recipe was great. Came out crispy and well cooked.

Everything was perfect except, in the air fryer, I had to set it at 380° instead of 360°

I’ve made these potatoes twice now and must say they are the best French Fries I’ve made at home.  Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.  Highly recommend.
I finished mine in the oven both times.  I’m trying the air fryer next time.
