Patty Melt

sourdough bread

tbsp butter, softened

mayonnaise

lb 80/20 ground beef

Onion powder

Garlic powder

pepper

Worcestershire

Swiss cheese

tbsp Butter

Olive oil

Caramelized Onions 





Heat the butter and olive oil in a medium non-stick skillet set over medium heat.Add the onions to the pan and satué until golden and caramelized, stirring every once in a while, not too often

If you like your caramelized onions on the sweeter side, add 1-2 tsp brown sugar

If your onions are browning too quickly, turn the heat to medium low and add water to deglaze the pan 1 tablespoon at a time until they stop burning and start to caramelize again.
Patty Melt 
In a small bowl mix the softened butter and mayonnaise together until combined

Set aside.In a medium mixing bowl, mix together the ground beef, onion powder, garlic powder, 1 teaspoon salt, pepper and Worcestershire

Form the meat mixture into 4 patties roughly the same shape of your slice of bread but a little bigger than the bread (they will shrink down when cooked and fit the bread perfectly) and sprinkle with remaining salt.Wipe out the pan used for the caramelized onions, or grab a second pan and heat it over medium heat

Cook the beef patties on both sides until no longer pink in the middle.Butter each piece of sourdough with 1 tablespoon of the butter/mayonnaise mixture.Wipe out the pan again and place it back over the heat on medium-low

Place 1 slice of Swiss cheese on each piece of bread (on the dry side, not the buttered side)

Top each piece of cheese with a beef patty

Divide the onions between the sandwiches and top with a 2nd cheese slice.

Top each sandwich with the remaining bread slices butter side up.Cook until golden brown and crisp, and until the cheese is melted

Carefully flip each sandwich over and repeat the cooking until golden brown and crips step

Patty Melts

beef (minimimum 20% fat content)

unsalted butter (divided)

rye bread

salt and pepper (to taste)

To caramelize the onions, start by melting 2 tablespoons of the butter in a heavy skillet, over high heat. When butter foams, stir in the onions and add a sprinkle of salt. Allow onions to sit in pan for about a minute, without stirring. After a minute or so, stir over high heat for about five minutes until the onions become soft and translucent.

Lower the heat to medium, and continue to cook while stirring, for about 30 to 40 minutes until the onions take on a golden brown color and are fully melted. Then, remove onions from skillet and set them aside.

To cook the burgers, begin by adding the remaining butter to the skillet, over medium heat. Divide the beef into four equal portions and flatten slightly to form patties that approximately the same size as the bread. Generously with salt and pepper.

Increase skillet heat to high and place patties into the skillet. Be sure to leave plenty of space between them and allow to cook for 3 minutes without turning. Use a spatula to flip each patty and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Remove from skillet and allow to rest.

Lower heat to medium and place four slices of rye bread into the skillet, using the butter and fat to grill the bread. Place a slice of cheese on each piece of bread, add one of the cooked patties, top with caramelized onions, another slice of cheese, and then another slice of bread.&nbsp; Press down on the patties, using a spatula. After about 2 minutes, turn each patty over and grill the other side.&nbsp; (It might be necessary to and a couple more tablespoons of butter to the skillet at this point.) Cook another couple of minutes until the bread is brown and crispy and the cheese is fully melted. Cut each patty in half and then serve.

Thoroughly butter one side of each slice of bread. Set aside.

Combine the ground beef, pepper, salt, and onion powder in a bowl and mix until the spices are evenly distributed.

Shape the mixture into three separate patties to match the shape of the bread.

Preheat a nonstick skillet on the stove over medium-high heat.

Place the patties in the skillet and cook for approximately 2-3 minutes. Then, flip them carefully to avoid breaking, and cook them for another 2-3 minutes on the other side.

Reduce to low heat and cook for approximately 5 more minutes. The centers should be uniformly brown with no pink remaining.

Use a digital thermometer to check the internal temperature of each patty. Each one should be 160 degrees Fahrenheit (71°C).

While the patties cook, mix the mayo, ketchup, bacon bits, relish, and sugar in a small bowl. Stir until well-blended, and set aside.

When the patties are ready, heat a second skillet on medium-low heat, and add one slice of bread (butter-side down) - or as many will fit.

Top the bread with two slices of cheddar cheese, followed by a patty and two slices of Provolone.

Spread the sauce over the unbuttered side of the second bread slice. Then, place that piece of bread (sauce-side down) on top of the last slice of cheese.

Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until the bread is lightly toasted.

Repeat steps 6, 7, and 8 until all three patty melts are ready.

Then, remove from heat, serve, and enjoy.

Simple Patty Melts are one of the greatest classic American diner foods known to mankind! Made with juicy ground beef patties, caramelized onions, and melted Swiss cheese between two slices of rye bread that have been grilled in butter to perfection, these iconic sandwiches are absolutely delicious!

Add the patties to the skillet, do it in batches if needed, and cook for 3 minutes per side over medium-high heat. Transfer the patties to a plate and set aside.

Wipe the skillet clean again and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Once the butter melts add 4 slices of bread and toast until golden brown. Remove 2 slices and flip the other two remaining slices.

Place a slice of cheese over each piece of bread in the skillet, then top each with a patty and another slice of cheese. Spread a tablespoon of mayo on the other two toasted bread, on the side that&#39;s untoasted, and place the mayo side over the sandwiches in the skillet.
