Beet Sangria with Winesap Apples

winesap apples,

lemon

beets

Grapes, orange wedges,

Press the apples and lemon through the juicer, followed by the beets. Serve over ice, garnished with fresh fruit.

White Sangria

(750 ml) white wine, chilled

(125 ml) vodka

limes

(125 ml) sugar

lemon, sliced

limes, sliced

(375 ml) tonic water

Ice cubes

mint leaves

In a pitcher, combine all the ingredients except the tonic water and ice cubes. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Add the tonic and ice just before serving. Garnish each glass with mint leaves.

Place the fruit, sugar, and brandy in a 2 to 3 quart pitcher and stir to combine. Set in the refrigerator for 6 to 8 hours. Add the wine and stir to combine. Serve over ice.

Made this for a ladies night and everyone loved it. I'm not a red white fan and thought it was amazing. 

Excellent! I cut the recipe by 1/2 and only used 1 bottle of wine, and then topped off m with Pellegrino when serving, with fresh cut strawberries!

Just made this for the first time last night. It tasted wonderful! Trying to use up what I already had in the kitchen, I used oranges, red apples and plums. I soaked the fruit for three hours with an inexpensive brandy - I used less than a cup - and some leftover Cointreau and agave nectar. I used a reasonably priced but nice Garnacha - I'd wanted a Rioja but couldn't find one within my budget. In the end, when I finally tried it, it was delicious. But sadly, I found the fruit to be so soaked with the brandy, it was inedible to me. It didn't even taste like fruit, only alcohol. But maybe my taste buds aren't used to such a strong flavor. Maybe because I used the Cointreau instead of the triple sec? The guy at the liquor store said the two were very similar. Perhaps next time, I'll just use what the recipe calls for and mix everything together all at once and let the flavors blend that way. But it's a great recipe! Definitely try it! Extremely refreshing and nice.  This one reminds me of the Sangria the Nut Tree used to serve.  (not there anymore Vacaville, CA  Comparing this one to that one, well, that's the highest compliment for Sangria IMO.  Make this,  you'll be glad you did.

YOU HAVE TO MAKE THIS!!!!!! It is delicious beyond your belief.  

get to Bev-Mo and buy yourself a couple of those "get the 2nd for five cents" wines and in the evening slice up some fruit from your local farmers market. bust out the brandy and soak it over night. as you prepare you coffee in the morning, pour the wine in with your soaking fruit, gently stir and enjoy the anticipation of coming home from work in the evening and relaxing with a deliciously cold glass of Sangria.

After the disappointing results of Sandra Lee's Sangria, I tried Alton's.  Should have known, he always gets things right.  Just be careful, it's so smooth and delish that you can forget your drinking a fortified wine.  Perfect summer day BBQ adult drink.

this was great Sangria.  I had some red wine left over from Xmas and didnt want to throw it away since it was really good wine.  I dont really like red wine so I decided to make sangria.  This was the easiest I found and I had all the ingredients on hand.  You wont go wrong with this recipe.

This Sangria was so easy to make and everyone loved it. I used a bit more sugar and brandy in the fruit so everything was covered well to marinate overnight.   I have never missed with any of Alton's recipe's. He gives you fantastic basics to springboard from!

I love fruity, sweet drinks and this one was fantastic. I used an italian sweet red wine called roscato and it was delicious. I highly recommend this recipe!

Excellent. It probably could do without the simple syrup. I substituted limoncello for the triple sec in one batch and I used I used raspberry liquor and cranberry juice instead of pomegranate. Both were amazing. 

I have made this several times.  Everyone always loves it!!!

Frozen Grape Sangria

grapes

Granny Smith apple,

lemon, thinly sliced

grapes,

white grape juice, chilled

vodka

Put the green grapes in the freezer about 2 hours before you want to serve your sangria. 

Combine the chopped apple, lemon slices, halved red grapes, sugar, wine, white grape juice and vodka in a large glass pitcher filled with ice. Stir to dissolve the sugar. Add the frozen green grapes to glasses and fill with the sangria. 

This was good.  I’d probably add some orange slices next time. 

I made this with pinot grigio and rum because I didn't have any vodka. It was so good, and I love that it didn't have to chill forever, I could chill the ingredients first then serve immediately after putting it all together. My fruit also sunk to the bottom, so I have a pitcher with a tiny bit of sangria and lots of drunken fruit, but that's fine with me- the flavors got passed on to the sangria! I also found that 3 cups of frozen green grapes was way more than necessary, but liked having them in place of ice cubes in the drinks, so it didn't get watered down!

Loved this version of white sangria. I made it for my 60th Birthday and will make it again for the 4th of July barbeque. I added super ripe peaches (because I forgot to buy the red grapes). Next time I will use less sugar as peaches added the right amount of sweetness.

I made this last weekend for my neice's 1st birthday.... It was for the adults of course! = I really liked it and so did everyone else. The frozen grapes were amazing but the only thing i didn't like was that the halved red grapes just sunk to the bottom while the rest of the fruit floated.  It didn't look as nice because of that. Next time i will just leave them whole.

Cooks Notes: You can use any citrus you have around at the time but is worth a couple of extra dollars for some heirloom varieties.

Sparkling Sangria

orange liqueur

orange, thinly sliced

In a large pitcher, combine the brandy, and orange liqueur. Pour in the sugar, stir or shake the pitcher thoroughly to mix until the sugar dissolves. Add all the fruit at once. Add the cava and serve as is or on ice.

Followed the recipe exactly.  It was delicious, but the ratio of fruit to liquid was way too high in my opinion.  I put this in a punch bowl an it was difficult to get the liquid out.  I ended up adding 2 additional bottles of champagne, and it was still delicious and I felt like the ratio was much better.

only 2 of us in our crowd are drinkers.  Cut recipe in 1/2 and we finished it all!  Used Cupcake Prosecco as our "sparkle" and we loved it!!

i made this for a pre-cookout that I had and OMG. It was a huge hit. I made a couple of changes, I used a pint of fresh strawberries instead of raseberries and did not add any sugar because I used a swseet sparkling wine, Moscato d'Asti. It was great because my guest could not stay away from it. I will make it at every gathering.

I recently made this sangria for a party and it was a huge hit! I ended up making more than 8 batches of this (it was a large party) and people still couldn't get enough. I found my sister eating the fruit out of the pitcher afterward. I will definitely be making this over and over again.

Pumpkin Sangria

pumpkin pie spice

maple syrup

cinnamon

pumpkin candies, for garnish,

white wine,

mango peach juice blend

pumpkin spice liqueur, chilled

In a small bowl, combine the sugar and pumpkin pie spice and mix until well combined. Transfer to a saucer. Add the maple syrup to a second saucer. Lightly dip the rims of 6 punch glasses into the maple syrup. Then dip the rims of the glasses into the spiced sugar.

Insert the cinnamon sticks into the bottom of each pumpkin candy and set aside.

In a pitcher, combine the wine, juice and pumpkin spice liqueur. Stir and pour into the rimmed glasses. Garnish with the pumpkin candy cinnamon sticks.

Cook's Note: If you cannot find pumpkin spice liqueur, combine 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice with 1 cup brandy in a container fitted with a lid. Shake vigorously and let sit for 1 day to infuse into the brandy.

Substituted apple cider for a more seasonal taste, and used pancake syrup, which didn't run. Orange color, and very tasty!

Not a fan.  The flavors did not really go together very well.  Also, if you choose to make this, use a very thick syrup for the garnish.  We didn't and it ran down the glasses and made for sticky fingers all night.  Well, that is until one of us caved and went to the store for rum and cider..

This is seriously the best thing my husband and I have ever had as an alcoholic drink.  And that's saying something.  We LOVE it.  It IS a little tropical with the orange colored fruit juice, but that could be easily remedied with more pumpin spice liqueur, maybe with some cinnamon liqueur... or more of the pumpkin spice seasoning.  WE LOVE IT!!

It was very tropical-tasting, which I did not expect, but the spice flavor from the liqueur (I used Hiram Walker brand and the spiced rim really came through at the end.  It was a beautiful orange color, too.  Next time I will use less juice and maybe a little more liqueur to see if it is more sangria-like.

Fall Sangria

Cabernet Sauvignon

apple cider

apple brandy

pear brandy

Cinnamon Simple Syrup,

cinnamon sticks (from Cinnamon Simple Syrup)

Gala

red pear,

green pear,

pomegranate,

orange, thinly sliced and each sliced halved

(optional)

Combine the wine, apple cider, apple brandy, pear brandy, Cinnamon Simple Syrup and fruits in a large container with a lid and refrigerate for at least 4 hours and up to 72 hours. Transfer to a pitcher before serving. Serve in red wine goblets over ice, if using.

Combine the sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan, bring to a boil over high heat and cook until the sugar is completely dissolved, about 3 minutes. Transfer the syrup to a container with a lid, add the cinnamon sticks and let chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours and up to 48 hours. The longer it sits, the more intense the flavor. Remove the cinnamon sticks and save to add to the sangria mixture. 

Loved this. Enjoyed by all our guests. I couldn’t find pear brandy so I used apricot, which I had on hand. Tasted great.

Make it every Thanksgiving-alaways a hit!

This was a fabulous fall sangria.  I made two pitchers worth and everyone raved about it.  I made it according to the recipe with no substitutions.  I would only caution about the cinnamon sticks.  They made a wonderful simple syrup, but when you transfer to the pitcher of sangria make sure you take them out if you plan to store leftovers for the next day.  I forgot all about them and when I went to have a glass the following evening, it was undrinkable.  That said, I'm making another pitcher today for company.  You will definitely enjoy this.

Sangria Fruit Salad

orange juice (from squeezing the membranes)

rose wine

honey

red grapes

oranges, segmented

pink grapefruit, segmented

mint

Whisk together the orange juice, rose wine and honey in a small bowl until combined.

Add the grapes, raspberries, strawberries, orange segments and grapefruit segments to a large bowl and pour the rose wine mixture over top. Stir together gently, and then allow to sit in the fridge for 30 minutes.

Garnish with the mint right before serving.
