Pizza Sausage Rolls wrapped in bagel dough with Italian chicken sausage, marinara and mozzarella make a fun appetizer or snack your whole family will love.

Pizza Sausage Rolls

unbleached all-purpose flour,

baking powder

salt

non-fat Greek yogurt

egg white (beaten (whole egg works fine too))

sesame seeds (for topping (optional))

chicken Italian sausage

cheese

pizza sauce

marinara sauce (for serving (optional))

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Place parchment paper or a silpat on a baking sheet. If using parchment paper, spray with oil to avoid sticking.

In a medium bowl combine the flour, baking powder and salt and whisk well.

Add the yogurt and mix with a fork or spatula until well combined (it will be sticky and look like small crumbles).

Lightly dust flour on a work surface and remove dough from the bowl, knead the dough a few times until dough is tacky, but not sticky, about 15 turns (it should not leave dough on your hand when you pull away). If it’s too sticky, add a few extra sprinkles of flour.

Divide in 4 equal balls.

Working with 1 ball at a time, lightly dust a rolling pin and a work surface and roll dough into a 5 ½” circle, about ¼” thick.

Spread 2 teaspoons pizza sauce down the middle of the circle, leaving about 1/2” border.

Lay 1 slice of cheese in the middle of the circle then top with 1/2 sausage link.

Carefully bring both sides of the dough up, wrap one side around the sausage then the other.

Press dough together so it’s sealed around the sausage and place it on the prepared sheet pan seam side-down.

Repeat with remaining dough, sauce, cheese and sausage.

Brush each with egg wash, top with sesame seeds, if using, and bake for 25-30 minutes.

Allow to cool for 5 minutes then slice into 6 pieces and serve.

x 320 grams sheet ready rolled all butter puff pastry

Put the mushrooms in a <a href="https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/test-five-best-food-processors">food processor</a> and pulse until they're very finely chopped.

Put half the olive oil in a large <a href="https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/top-five-non-stick-frying-pans">frying pan</a> and add the leeks along with a pinch of salt. Fry gently for 15 mins or until softened and golden brown. Scrape the leeks out of the pan and into a bowl. Heat the remaining oil in the pan and fry the mushrooms for 10 mins over a medium heat. Add the garlic, sage, miso and mustard and fry for another minute, then leave to cool slightly.

Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Combine the mushroom mixture with the leeks in a bowl, add the chestnuts, cheese and breadcrumbs. Season lightly to taste (the miso and leeks will add salt, so don’t add too much) and work everything together until you have a slightly stodgy mixture.

Unravel the puff pastry on a floured surface, then <a href="https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/test-best-rolling-pins">roll</a> out so one side measures about 40cm. Push the mushroom mixture down the centre of the pastry. Bring the pastry around the mixture and seal the edges with a fork, then cut into 8 pieces. Lay on a lined baking sheet and brush each one with the beaten egg. Bake in the oven for 25-30 mins until deep, golden brown. Allow to cool a little before eating.

Veggie sausage rolls are easy to make and ideal for serving at a party or keeping in the fridge for a festive treat. These are packed with savoury cheesy stuffing and cranberries.

175 grams/6 ounces crustless day-old wholemeal bread, torn into pieces

butter,

leeks (150 grams/5½oz trimmed weight), thinly sliced

sage leaves, finely chopped

thyme leaves

free-range eggs, 1 beaten for egg wash

120 grams/4 ounces Parmesan (or alternative vegetarian hard cheese), grated

grams/3½oz manchego (or alternative vegetarian hard cheese), grated

500 grams/1lb 2 ounces pack all-butter puff pastry

tsp plain flour,

grams/1¾oz cranberries

salt and black pepper

Preheat the air fryer to 180 ° C or 360 ° F which is usually around 3 minutes depending on the air fryer.

A delicious mixture of minced pork, spices, apricot and nuts is baked in pastry and served with braised cabbage with apple and tamarind sauce.

This is the Rolls Royce of sausage rolls, made with a large French saucisson and a rich brioche dough. It’s usually baked as one large loaf, but individual rolls can be made with smaller sausages. You could also use a roll of sausage meat.

This sausage roll is inspired by South African flavours and uses a combination of beef, lamb and pork meats. 

South African-inspired sausage rolls

beef silverside

100 grams/3½oz lamb shoulder,

pork shoulder

coriander seeds, crushed

allspice

cloves

tbsp malt vinegar

ready-rolled puff pastry (approx. 320 grams/11½oz each)

grams/1¾oz chilli chutney,

free-range egg, plus 1 free-range egg yolk, beaten

I make these easy sausage rolls often – they are always welcome at a picnic or party. Feel free to enhance them as you like.

Sausage meat is crumbled onto buttery puff pastry and speckled with fennel seeds in this stunning snack, that’s perfect for parties or picnics.

375 grams/13 ounces sheet all-butter puff pastry

tsp fennel seeds,

Bramley apple,

400 milliliters/14fl oz apple juice

cardamom pods

Five spice adds such a beautiful flavour to these sausage rolls, as the star anise and fennel seeds in particular complement the pork so well.

onion, very finely chopped

garlic cloves, grated to a paste

plain unflavoured sausagemeat

tsp white pepper

five-spice powder

egg, beaten

sesame seeds, black or white, for topping the sausage rolls

mango chutney, to serve

Preheat the oven to 180ºC fan and line two baking trays with greaseproof paper

Add a dash of oil to a frying pan and cook the onion gently until softened but not coloured. Add the garlic and ginger and cook for a further minute, stirring to ensure it doesn’t burn. Remove from the pan and set aside to cool

Combine the sausagemeat, white pepper, five spice and cooled onion mixture with some salt and mix well – this is easiest using your hands

Take a teaspoon or or so of the sausagemeat and cook it in a hot frying pan to check the seasoning. Taste and adjust the amount of salt, pepper or five spice to taste

Place the rectangle of pastry onto a lightly floured surface and cut in half lengthways so you have two long pieces

Divide the sausagemeat in half and spread it out into two long sausages along the centre of the strips of pastry 

Brush one edge of each strip of pastry with beaten egg and roll the pastry over to seal into two tubes. Roll each tube over so that the seam is underneath 

Cut each tube into two inch lengths, transfer to the baking trays and brush each with beaten egg, taking care to brush all over the surface but avoid the sides – brushing the sides with egg will stop the pastry from puffing up properly 

Top each sausage roll with a sprinkling of sesame seeds

Transfer the trays to the oven and bake for 25 minutes, or until puffed and golden. Allow to cool a little before serving with mango chutney

Is a party even a party without a pile of Mini Sausage Rolls? I don&#39;t think so! These little puff pastry cloaked sausage morsels are so moreish you&#39;ll need to make a second batch! Oven and air fryer instructions included.

Mini Sausage Rolls with Puff Pastry Recipe

375 g Puff Pastry

500 g Pork Sausage Meat

Preheat the oven to 200c fan. Line a large oven tray with baking parchment.Note - Skip this step if using an air fryer. Scroll for specific air fryer cooking instructions.

Roll 375 g Puff Pastry into a large rectangle or unroll a sheet of ready rolled puff pastry on a floured surface.

Use a sharp knife to cut the pastry sheets into 3 equal pieces. Make the shorter cut of the two or the pastry will be too thin to roll.

Remove the skins from 500 g Pork Sausage Meat.

Divide the sausage meat evenly along the middle of each pastry strip. I did this by rolling each unskinned sausage a little thinner and squidging the ends together.
