Perfect Fish Tacos

lb. cod (or other flaky white fish)

These were delicious!!! Since we’re stuck at home during the COVID-19 quarantine, I’m trying to make special meals for us so that dinner isn’t boring too. These were the biggest hit so far. Even our 22 year old son who is a “man of few words” would not stop raving about them. My hubby said it is one of his new favorites. Yum yum yum 😋 Only things I tweaked were I used a bag of tri-colored slaw instead of chopping up cabbage myself, and I baked the fish in the oven instead of cooking on the stove.

My aunt called me this morning and decided to have some friends over and wanted to serve a variety of tacos. I ran to the supermarket and grabbed everything to make chicken and beef tacos and thought to myself it would be cool to make fish tacos. I found this recipe and decided to give it a try and OMG they were amazing! Even down to the coleslaw.  Thank you for this fabulous recipe. This will be a party staple at our home for years to come. Ridiculously delicious. It was a hit!

Since we tried this recipe we now have fish tacos once a week. Luckily for us we have a house in the Gulf of Mexico and fish a lot. I have found that Mangrove Snapper is perfect for this recipe.  The filets are the perfect size.  We also have used this recipe for gulf white shrimp tacos and it’s awesome as well. I like to throw the corn tortillas in the same pan that I cook the fish in to crisp them up. The remaining oil in the pan works perfectly go that.  I also prefer using cast iron to cook the fish in as well.

Used 1 1/2 tsp of cayenne and it was not too spicy.  The slaw is amazing, don’t skip it.

Loved this. I wrapped in Bibb lettuce to save carbs. I used avocado mayo in the slaw and somehow forgot to get cilantro so used Italian parsley. Instead of using sliced avocado I made a quick guacamole with some cut up onion and spices. It was colorful, tasty and pretty darn healthy!

Very tasty and easy to make. The coleslaw is awesome! It's so good, I made extra!

Just tried these. Store did not have cod fish so I used tilapia instead. It was SOOOOO good! Will be doing these again - very simple and quick. And the marinade takes the fish to the next level!

Just made today! Super easy and DELICIOUS. I ended up using Gorton's breaded fish fillets from Target instead of the cod and it worked very well. Coleslaw was amazing.

I made this last night and it was delicious! As good if not better than my favorite fish taco restaurant.  The slaw and marinade have such great flavors. I used a bag of precut coleslaw instead of purple cabbage to save a little time.

We enjoyed this dish this evening minus the slaw and hot pepper. The fish marinated in lime and seasonings turned out delicious with avocado, cilantro, and sour cream.

Wonderful! My husband, who only barbecues outside, made the marinade for the fish. We had all the ingredients on hand including frozen Costco cod. With a side salad, this meal is a keeper for a warm California night.

This was fantastic!  Made it last night and it was so easy.  I had to make substitutions (used plain yogurt instead of sour cream, dried cilantro instead of fresh, lemon instead of lime) but it came out great!

Delicious and easy flavorful recipe.  My husband loves very spicy food and thought the fish had a nice heat.  I thought it was a little spicy, so I added some rice. I had some Chesapeake Bay striped bass ("rock fish") that I wanted to use and it worked great.  I also didn't have cabbage, so I made a substitute slaw with green onions, red pepper, tomato, carrots, and jalapeno. Even my picky eater enjoyed.

I'm pretty new to cooking, and have been dedicating a lot of time lately to learning. I’ve been looking for simple, healthy recipes, and this one is a WINNER! I’m very impressed with how easy it was to make. It won my wife and I over after the first time we made it, and I even impressed my mother-in-law 🤪 we used haddock in place of the cod, and it tasted great! Recipe was really easy to follow. I made the marinade for the fish exactly as suggested but will add a little more kick to it next time, and there will be a next time.  The sauce was also easy to follow and had a nice flavor.  We did not use the corn or sour cream. I think next time I will use the fish marinade and make a batter for the fish as it needed a little more crunch.  All in all, for my first attempt I was very pleased.  My husband even had one which is saying a lot because he is super picky!

I have prepared many fish tacos over the year but this was really the best recipe yet!  The fish was so delicious, tender, marinate so perfect, and cooked up quickly.  The slaw was superb..   My husband complimented me over and over again--which is really great considering we have been married for 50 years!

You NEED These Perfect Fish Tacos For Your Next Taco Tuesday

Pan seared marinated shrimp paired with a fresh mango salsa, avocado, and crema! These might just be the perfect seafood taco!

Shrimp Taco

key west shrimp (medium)

mango (diced)

jalapeno (seeded, diced)

tomatoes (small, diced)

limes

sour cream (45 grams)

purple cabbage

garlic (minced)

coriander

tsp kosher salt (6 grams)

avocado (sliced)

corn tortillas (medium)

Dice tomatoes, mango and a medium jalapeno pepper into small cubes. Add everything to medium bowl.

Squeeze the juice from ½ a lime into the bowl. Sprinkle a little bit of salt.

In another medium bowl, add sour cream and the other ½ juice from the lime. Give it a mix.

Chop the cabbage into slices.

Deshell and devein the shrimp. Pat them dry. Add to a bowl. Zest a lime.

Sprinkle the shrimp with chili powder. Add a squeeze of lime juice, minced garlic, pinch of salt, splash of olive oil, lime zest, and a few dashes of coriander. Give everything a toss. Let the shrimp marinate for about an hour.&nbsp;

In a medium pan, add a dollop of butter, the shrimp and the marinade. Cook over medium- high heat for about 7-10 minutes. Flip and cook until they are golden . Take off the heat and set to the side.&nbsp;

Peel and slice an avocado. Slice into slivers.&nbsp;

Heat the tortillas up on the flame of the stove or in a pan.&nbsp;

Assemble all of the taco ingredients. Drizzle sour cream mixture and add on the salsa.
