Sesame-crusted ahi tuna with soy ginger lime sauce is a healthy and very simple dish to make! Pickled cucumbers add a sweet and tangy crunch with each bite.

Ahi Tuna with Soy Ginger Lime Sauce

rice wine vinegar (Kikkoman)

water

sugar

salt

red chili flakes (dried)

cucumbers

ginger (minced)

lime juice (about 2 limes)

soy sauce (plus 2 more teaspoons)

sesame oil

honey

ahi tuna ((four 5-oz pieces) about 1-inch thick)

sesame seeds ((white, black or mixture of both))

grapeseed oil (or vegetable oil)

Combine vinegar, water, sugar, salt, and chili flakes in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat.

Remove from heat. Add cucumber slices and stir.

Let it rest for 10 minutes, then transfer cucumber to a sealable container and refrigerate until ready to use.

Pickled Cucumbers

Whisk together all soy ginger lime sauce ingredients together in a small bowl. Set aside until ready to serve.

Soy Ginger Lime Sauce

Place sesame seeds on a plate. Pat dry the tuna steaks with a paper towel to remove excess water.

Dredge and press tuna in sesame seeds, coating evenly. Sprinkle with more seeds as needed.

In a medium frying pan over medium-high heat, warm the oil until just smoking.

Frying two portions at a time, arrange the tuna steaks in the pan (do not overcrowd) and cook until the sesame seeds start to turn golden underneath, about 1 minute.

Turn the tuna over and cook for 1 minute.

Sear the edges of the tuna for 15 seconds on each edge.

Transfer the tuna to a plate with a paper towel, gently patting to soak up any excess oil. Repeat with remaining tuna portions.

Transfer tuna to a cutting board and cut ¼-inch thick slices.

Arrange tuna on individual serving plates or bowls. Serve with pickled cucumbers and soy ginger lime sauce.

Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Recipe

Here's the most amazing Marinated Seared Ahi you can make at home! It's bursting with flavor, super easy to make, and fantastic as an appetizer or healthy dinner.

Marinated Seared Ahi Tuna

TB regular strength soy sauce

TB lemon juice

TB Asian toasted sesame oil (found in the Asian aisle)

garlic powder

tsp kosher salt

tsp black pepper

tuna

cilantro (green scallions, sesame seeds

Marinade

Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together the first 7 ingredients to make a marinade. Towel dry tuna steaks and place in a glass or ceramic dish. Pour marinade over the fish, turning to coat well throughout. Cover tightly and chill several hours to overnight; turn fish over at least once in the middle of marinade time.

Sear

Sear: Heat 3 TB oil in a large heavy skillet (aluminum or stainless steel; not nonstick) until oil is smoking. Sear ahi steaks 1 1/2 minutes per side on high heat, taking care to flip carefully with a flat, steel spatula. (If your tuna is less than 1 1/2 inches thick, sear for only 1 minute per side.)

Rest/Cool

Rest/Cool: Transfer seared ahi to a large cutting board and let rest/cool 10 minutes. Use a very sharp (serrated works well) knife to slice thinly across the grain.

Serve

Serve: Serve chilled or at room temp, over your favorite salad greens or crispy Asian salad. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and cilantro or green onions, if desired. Drizzle with Sriracha mayo if desired.
