A seriously punchy whisky cocktail perfect for slow sipping during the winter months

Sloe Sazerac

rye whisky 50 milliliters

simple syrup 10 milliliters

Peychaud bitters 4 dashes

sloe gin 2½ tbsp

absinthe 10 milliliters

lemon

sloe berries, to garnish (optional)

(30 milliliters) Southern Comfort

(30 milliliters) Vodka

Top with Orange Juice

Definitely has an alcohol punch to it, but the more you drink, the less you notice it, lol! I would make it again for sure.

Treat yourself to a sloe gin fizz, made with sloe gin and lemon juice and topped up with sparkling water. Garnish with a lemon slice and a blackberry

Sloe gin fizz

lemon juice

tsp sugar syrup

water

blackberry

Pour the sloe gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup into a cocktail shaker and fill up with ice cubes. Shake well until the outside of the shaker feels cold, then strain into a tall glass filled with more ice. Top up with sparkling water and stir gently. Garnish with a lemon slice and a blackberry.

venison loin, fat trimmed

olive oil

thyme

250 grams/9 ounces pancetta, thinly sliced

vegetable oil

tbsp sloe gin

200 milliliters/7fl oz reduced beef stock

juniper berries, crushed

blackberries

butter

salt and black pepper

Making sloe gin is slow but not laborious. There's no cooking required, just patience as the sloes steep in the gin.
