Homemade Healthy Onion Soup Mix

turmeric

sugar

celery seed

onion

salt

parsley

onion powder

black pepper

A delicious, hearty soup mix that is quick and easy to assemble and to cook. Perfect for a quick meal at home or for a complete protein meal when camping.

Vegetable Quinoa Soup Mix

quinoa

red split lentils (do not substitute)

dehydrated vegetables

garlic powder

tsp black pepper

thyme

Tbsp parsley flakes

In small bag combine quinoa and red lentils.

In small bowl mix remainder of ingredients until well combined.

Place veggies and herbs in a jar or plastic bag.

Add quinoa packet to top of ingredients.

Seal well and label.

Rinse quinoa and lentils under cold water.

Add to pot with 6 cups soup stock/broth or use 4-6 teaspoons bouillon powder (depending on brand) and 6 cups water.

Add remaining veggie/herb mix.

Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes.

Adjust seasoning to taste.

Use this healthier Cream of Anything Soup Mix recipe in place of the canned variety for all of the flavor without the extra sodium, calories, and fat.&nbsp;&nbsp;This is a base dry mix recipe that you can then cook to make a can of soup to eat plain or use in a recipe. &nbsp;You can use this cream of anything soup mix recipe 'as is' or add one of several options listed below to make a specific cream of something soup.

Cream of Anything Soup Mix

milk

arrowroot powder (or cornstarch)

chicken bouillon

tsp dried onion flakes

basil

tsp pepper

Measure all ingredients and place in a bowl.  Stir well.  You can use a bullet style blender or a food processor to grind into a fine powder if you want. Store in a container with a lid until ready to use.

When you need a can of soup, heat one cup of water on the stove.  Add ⅓ cup dry mix.  Cook over low heat until thick, stirring occasionally.  I find that a whisk helps it mix better than using a spoon.&nbsp;&nbsp;

If you want a specific kind of cream of something soup, add one of the following:--½ cup diced mushrooms--½ cup chopped broccoli--½ cup diced celery--½ cup shredded cheddar cheese--½ cup cooked, shredded or cubed chicken--½ cup diced tomatoes

This frugal strategy uses two cans of tomato paste to create a comforting batch of tomato soup. The milk used in this recipe is heated separately and added last to help prevent the curdled look that sometimes happens with homemade tomato soups. I use a 1/2 teaspoon of each of the spices listed, but feel free to experiment with your own spices ideas too!

How To Make Tomato Soup from Tomato Paste

Tomato Paste (6 oz size)

Water

½ tsp Baking Soda

Sugar

Milk

½ tsp Garlic Powder

½ tsp Onion Powder

Paprika

½ tsp Dried Basil

½ tsp Dried Oregano

½ tsp Dried Parsley

Salt

½ tsp White Pepper

In a large saucepan combine the tomato paste and water.  Stir in the baking soda, sugar, and spices.

Heat the tomato paste mixture over medium heat.  This is a thick mixture and it pops and splatters, so you&#39;ll probably want to cover it, stirring occasionally.  Let it simmer for 10minutes.

In a separate large saucepan, heat the 3 cups of milk.

When both the tomato paste mixture and the milk are about the same temperature (just use your best estimate), combine the two by slowly pouring the warmed milk into the tomato paste mixture, stirring it as you go.

Simmer the mixture for a few minutes to let the flavors meld together and then serve.
