A melt-in-your-mouth, flavorful, cake-like cookie that's topped with a sweet and simple lemon cream cheese glaze. Easy to make and even easier to eat and fall in love!

Glazed Lemon Sour Cream Cookies

(426 grams) all-purpose flour

tsp baking powder

tsp baking soda

tsp salt

(226 grams) unsalted butter, (softened)

(300 grams) granulated sugar

eggs

sour cream

lemon

tsp vanilla extract

(300 grams) powdered sugar

Tbsp cream cheese, (softened well (practically melted))

lemon juice

In a large mixing bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt, set aside.

In the bowl of an electric stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment cream together butter and sugar until slightly fluffy. Blend in eggs one at a time.&nbsp;

Mix in sour cream, lemon zest and vanilla. Add flour mixture and mix until combined.&nbsp;

Cover bowl and chill dough in refrigerator until dough is a little more firm and easier to work with, about 1 hour (it will still be fairly sticky).&nbsp;

Preheat oven to 375 during last 10 minutes of dough chilling.

Line two 18 by 13-inch baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.&nbsp;

Drop dough by the rounded tablespoons (using either a cookie scoop or two spoons) onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2-inches apart.

Bake both sheets in preheated oven, switching and rotating them halfway through baking, until bottom edges are golden and cookies are set, about 14 - 15 minutes.&nbsp;

Cool on baking sheet several minutes then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling.&nbsp;

Set a baking sheet underneath cookies on rack, then spoon and spread glaze over cooled cookies and let glaze set at room temperature. Store cookies in an airtight container.&nbsp;

For the glaze, in a mixing bowl blend together cream cheese and lemon juice. Mix in powdered sugar stirring until smooth.&nbsp;

Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl, set aside

Beat butter, sugar, and egg with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

Add the sour cream and vanilla and blend on medium-low until combined.  Mix in the flour mixture, I cup at a time, until just combined.  Dough will be very soft.  Cover and refrigerate the dough 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375.  Prepare baking sheet with parchment paper or cooking spray.  Drop cookie dough by rounded tablespoons 2 inches apart.

Bake 10-12 minutes until edges are golden brown.  If baking two sheets at a time, rotate halfway through the baking time.

After cookies have cooled completely, mix the glaze by combining all ingredients.  Dip cookies in the glaze and sprinkle with sugar or sprinkles.  Let dry and store at room temperature until serving.

Old Fashioned Frosted Sour Cream Cookies:

For the cookies:

1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup butter salted
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla

For the glaze:

1 tablespoon milk
1 cup powdered sugar
dash vanilla
colored sprinkles or sparkling sugar optional

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl, set aside
2. Beat butter, sugar, and egg with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

NOTES

Instead of the glaze, try sprinkling with cinnamon sugar before baking.
To make ahead bake and cool the cookies, then defrost at room temperature before glazing.  You can also glaze and freeze, fully assembled!

Preheat oven to 325 degrees and line sheet pans with parchment or silicone baking mats.

Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, beat together butter an granulated sugar.

Beat in eggs, sour cream and vanilla until well combined.

Add dry ingredients and beat until just combined. Fold in walnuts if using. The batter will be thick.

Drop Tablespoons (1 1/2 inch balls) of batter onto lined pans, about 2 inches apart. 

Bake 12-15 minutes, until the edges are just beginning to turn golden. Cool.

Once they've cooled, you can glaze and serve. If you're planning on freezing these, you'll want to freeze them after baking but without the glaze.

Cookies:

Mix all ingredients until well combined well.&nbsp;

Dip the cookies into the glaze. Top with some sprinkles if you want a pop of color.&nbsp;

Set aside for a few minutes until the glaze has dried. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container on your counter.

Cream together the butter and sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer for 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.

Add the sour cream, eggs, and vanilla and mix until well combined. Gently mix in the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Mix until just combined. Refrigerate overnight to firm up.

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

Scoop the chilled dough into 1 inch balls and space 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.

Bake for 11-12 minutes until the center is soft and the edges are just beginning to brown.

Allow the cookies to cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a cool rack to cool completely.

To make the buttercream frosting, cream the butter for 3-5 minutes with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Slowly beat in the powdered sugar until the buttercream is smooth. Add the milk and vanilla and mix to combine.

Frost the cookies if you wish or leave them plain, or dipped in icing sugar.
