This healthier french toast recipe not only tastes amazing but is also lower in sugar and higher in both protein and fiber than regular french toast! It's ideal for using up old, stale bread and can easily be made dairy-free as well. Enjoy topped with your favorite fruit and yogurt.

Healthy French Toast

bread

milk

cinnamon

stevia

vanilla extract

banana, sliced -

raspberries

blueberries

yogurt

maple syrup (optional)

In a large/wide bowl, whisk to combine egg, milk, cinnamon, stevia and vanilla extract.

Slice bread into halves (so it's in the shape of a triangle).

Heat up oil in a non-stick skillet over low heat.

Dip one piece of bread into egg mixture for 1-2 seconds on each side, and transfer to skillet immediately. Cook for 1.5-2 minutes on each side or until golden.

Repeat steps for remaining slices of bread.

Plate up your French toasts and top them off with yogurt, fruits and maple syrup (if using). Enjoy!

Turn stale bread Into Kebab! Ancient Turkish “Tirit” is an authentic Turkish / Ottoman recipe from my childhood. “Tirit” or “Thareed” is a dish made by putting toasted or stale bread in broth. 
We have many different “Tirit” dishes throughout Anatolia. I am going to show one of my childhood “Kastamonu Tiridi”.

400 gr. ground beef

onion

olive oil

butter

Sal, pepper, and paprika

water

300 gr. stale bread

tsp sweet or hot paprika

tbsp butter

plain fullfat yogurt

For the base, use any stale bread. If your bread is soft or to give extra taste you can toast it.

First cut them into cubes.

Then toast the pieces of bread with some butter until you have some golden spots. Turn off the heat and keep it ready at the side.

Preparing Stale Bread Base

Meanwhile, make the ground beef topping. Sauté the ground beef in vegetable oil and butter mixture. Make a well in the center and add diced onions.

Add salt, paprika, and black pepper to taste. Continue to sauté for about 4-5 minutes.

Add about 1+1/2 to 2 cups of water, simmer for 2-3 more minutes and turn off.

What is on my memory besides the delicious taste is, that my mom was serving tirit in a big wide bowl, and we were eating right from there with spoons. It was making us get together at the table just like in Anatolia or even back in Ottoman times how it is served.

First spread the toasted pieces of bread into a serving plate.

Then spread the ground beef base on top of them. Make sure most of the bread pieces are wet with the sauce.

Pour the yogurt sauce over the minced meat sauce and bread base.

Assembling The Tirit (Best recipe for stale bread)

For the paprika sauce, melt some butter with paprika.

Cook the sauce until a delicious smell comes from the sauce.

Finally, drizzle the hot paprika sauce over the “tirit” and serve hot.

Ingredients for tirit / thareed: (For 3-4 serving)
For the ground beef topping
400gr. ground beef
2 medium size onion
3-4 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp butter
Salt, pepper, and paprika to taste
1+1/2 cups to 2 cups of water
For the base: 300gr. stale bread or pide, cut into cubes
1 tbsp butter to toast bread
For the paprika sauce:
1 tsp sweet or hot paprika
2 tbsp butter
To drizzle on top: About 2 cups of yogurt
