This General Tso’s Sticky Tofu recipe is a vegan and healthier take on the popular sweet &amp; spicy Asian takeout chicken dish. It’s quick and easy to make in under 20-minutes, loaded with plant-based protein and can be easily made gluten-free by using tamari sauce!

General Tso’s Sticky Tofu

firm tofu (cubed (300 g))

cornstarch

soy sauce (or tamari sauce (if GF))

water (120 ml)

tsp oil (*see notes)

garlic

tsp grated ginger (or more to taste)

½ tsp chili pepper flakes

tomato paste (*see notes)

tbsp rice vinegar

Sesame seeds

Lime wedges

Mix the cornstarch and water in a small bowl and set aside.

Heat the 2 teaspoons of oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the garlic, ginger, and chili pepper flakes and sauté for a few seconds until fragrant. Then whisk in the remaining sauce ingredients and the cornstarch mixture and bring to a boil. Cook for a minute until thickened, then remove from the heat and set aside while you make the tofu.

Sweet &amp; Sour Sauce

Drain and press the tofu as instructed above (or use a tofu press), then cut into cubes. (I highly recommend reading my blog post for helpful tips on making the best crispy tofu!)

Transfer the tofu cubes to a bowl, add the cornstarch, soy sauce (or tamari) and oil, and mix well.

Heat some oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes and cook for about 3 minutes each side, until golden brown and crispy all over.

Add the sauce, toss to coat and cook for about 1-2 minutes over low-medium heat until hot.

Serve the tofu over rice and garnish with chopped scallions, sesame seeds and lime wedges on the side. Enjoy!

A delicious way to eat crispy tofu! The sticky miso maple glaze is full of umami flavour and is utterly addictive!

Sticky Miso Tofu- Air Fryer or Oven Baked

tbsp potato starch

tsp flakey sea salt

tsp white pepper

tsp vegetable oil (in a spray)

g white miso paste

maple syrup

tbsp rice wine vinegar

tbsp sweet chilli sauce

tsp ginger (grated fresh)

sesame seeds

green onions (scallions/ spring onions)

Prepare the tofu by slicing it then patting it dry. If it is not the extra firm variety, lay it between two clean tea towels for half an hour with something heavy on top.

Chop the tofu in to 2cm /1&quot; cubes

Toss the tofu in the potato starch along with the salt and white pepper

Spray the tofu with vegetable oil, then put in the air fryer at 180°C/350°F for 10 minutes or oven bake at 180°C/350°F for 20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Finely mince the garlic and grate the ginger.

Add all the sauce ingredients together and mix to combine.

When the tofu is cooked, remove from the air fryer or oven.

In a non-stick pan, warm the sticky tofu sauce, until it starts to bubble a little. Add the tofu and toss in the sauce.

Serve the tofu over rice and greens with the toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions to garnish.

For the Sticky Miso Sauce

Maple miso tofu is an easy way to make tofu taste delicious. Baked until crispy and then finished on the stove until it&#039;s chewy and sticky.

Sticky Glazed Maple Miso Tofu

tofu

neutral oil (vegetable

yeast (optional)

corn starch

garlic powder

miso paste

water

soy sauce

sesame oil

rice vinegar

ginger

sriracha (optional if you don't like spice)

Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees

Take the tofu out of the package and press for 15 minutes if you have a tofu press and 30 minutes if you don&#039;t.

Press the tofu

Cut the tofu into cubes. Add it to a large mixing bowl. Add the oil, nutritional yeast, garlic powder and corn starch and a pinch of salt. Gently mix until everything is mixed together well. Be gentle while stirring to make sure you don&#39;t break the tofu.

Add the tofu to a lined baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes or until tofu is crispy and golden brown.

Bake the tofu

While tofu is baking make the marinade. In a small bowl or mug add 2-3 tablespoons of water to one tablespoon of miso paste. Stir until miso dissolves.  Add the rest of the ingredients in the maple miso glaze section to the miso mixture.  Mix well.

Make the marinade

Once tofu has finished baking, add the maple miso glaze to a saute pan on the stove on medium low heat. Stir constantly until sauce starts to thicken. This takes about 1-2 minutes.

After sauce has started to thicken, add the baked tofu and stir until the tofu is well coated. Keep the tofu on the stove until the sauce starts to caramelize and become sticky on the tofu.

Serve on top of rice

Maple miso glazed tofu / Delicious tofu recipe that will BLOW YOUR MIND /  Easy tofu marinade

This vegan Garlic Butter Tofu is satisfyingly tasty with a sticky glaze. It’s easy to prepare and perfect served with rice or noodles of your choice. The added miso paste gives the sauce an extra kick of umami.

Sticky Garlic Butter Tofu (Vegan Recipe)

lb extra firm tofu

tbsp sugar

tbsp corn starch

vegan butter

White parts of a scallion (chopped)

tsp miso paste (, I used white miso)

onions

Press your tofu to drain excess liquid. Slice into cubes or your shape of choice. I air-fried my tofu soI simply placed this in my air fryer basket and spray some oil. I left this to air fry for 20-22 minutes at 180-200C. Do note that air fryer settings can vary.

You can also opt to bake or pan-fry your tofu until golden brown and crisp. Set the tofu aside.

Meanwhile, mix together all the sauce ingredients in a small bowl until the corn starch has dissolved. Set aside.

Heat your skillet or pan over medium heat. Once hot, add in the vegan butter and allow to melt. Add the white part of the scallion and garlic. Sauté for 2-3 minutes or until the garlic is lightly brown and aromatic. Add in the miso paste and mix.

Mix the sauce again since the corn starch tends to settle at the bottom. Over medium heat, pour the sauce into the garlic. Leave to simmer over medium heat and continue to stir until it slightly thickens.

Add in the crispy tofu. Coat in the sauce and allow to leave at a medium low to simmer for 4-5 minutes or until the sauce has thickened further and has become sticky from the sugars. The sauce should coat the tofu well and turn into a sticky glaze.

Add the green parts of the scallions.

Serve and enjoy this tofu while hot with rice or noodles of your choice.

I highly recommend to enjoy this tofu immediately after cooking but in case you have leftovers, it’d be best to reheat this on a pan and add some water since the glaze will thicken. Adding a bit of water (around 1-2 tbsp) would allow the glaze to become a bit runnier. It’ll turn back into a glaze as you reheat it over medium heat.

Reheating Tips

I and my family loved this tofu. My mother rated it as restaurant worthy, but I take none of the credit! This is a dish I’ll be making time and again. I might have made the sauce a little too thick, but it was still so tasty. 😅 Thanks so much for sharing.
