In a bowl mix finely chopped imitation crabmeat with cream cheese, Yum Yum sauce (Japanese Mayo), and a bit of wasabi. There are no measurements here since it all based on taste. Just mix and taste until it’s perfect for you.

This is the EASIEST way to make sushi at home! All you need to make Temaki Sushi (aka &quot;hand-rolled&quot; sushi), is yakinori seaweed, sushi rice and your favourite fillings. Wrap them up into a roll or cone shape and you are done! 

Temaki Sushi - Easy Hand-Rolled Sushi

sushi rice (cooked)

tbsp sushi vinegar

nori sheets (per person, sliced in half)

tuna

mayonnaise

carrot (finely sliced)

cucumber

soy sauce

Transfer cooked sushi rice to a wide, flat-bottomed pan or dish.

Pour the sushi vinegar over the cooked rice and mix gently with a flat rice paddle so as not to break any of the grains. Allow the rice to cool completely before serving.

Next, place your tuna in a small bowl and top with kewpie mayo. Mix until well combined, adding more mayo if needed until you have a smooth texture and delicious flavour.

Take up a sheet of nori (remember to slice or break it in half first) and place it in your hand or on a plate. Top with a scoop of rice in the top left corner in a rough, triangular shape.

Layer up with your chosen fillings such as the tuna/kewpie blend, carrot and cucumber, then fold up the bottom left corner and roll into a cone shape. If you&#039;re unsure how to do this, check out our video.

The EASIEST Hand Rolled Sushi - Temaki Sushi -  [5 Minute Prep!]

For these sushi sandwiches and rolls, I made my own crispy vegan tofu "katsu" for the filling, along with other veggies, and drizzled some homemade teriyaki sauce! You can also of course get creative with your fillings.

Vegan Tofu “Katsu” Sushi Sandwiches and Rolls (Onigirazu and Maki)

Whole nori sheets

Prepared Japanese sushi rice (recipe below)

Prepared tofu katsu

tofu

carrots

Lettuce

Pickled radish (store-bought)

burdock root (store-bought)

Homemade teriyaki sauce

Sesame seeds (for sprinkling)

rice rice

rice vinegar vinegar

tbsp cane sugar (feel free to adjust accordingly)

salt

Wash the Japanese rice 2-3 times with water or until water runs clear.

Cook in a rice cooker. (1 cup rice = 1 cup water)

While the rice is cooking, pour rice vinegar, sugar and salt into a large wooden or ceramic bowl. Mix well.

Once rice is cooked, add into the vinegar mixture and mix well. The hot rice will easily absorb the mixture.

Cover the rice with a damp towel. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Cover with a towel or cling wrap then refrigerate.

Japanese Sushi Rice

In a flat surface, place the nori sheet.  Prepare a bowl of water to dip your fingers. This is to prevent rice fro sticking to your fingers.

Add a generous amount of the sushi rice to make a square shape the same size as the tofu katsu or tofu of choice.

Add the lettuce and then the tofu.

Add other toppings of choice, all the same size as the tofu and rice. I used a mix of carrots and pickled radish.

Add another layer of rice and press down.

Fold each side of the nori sheet to the center while holding together the filling to ensure the sandwich will be held together well.

Fold the sheet up while tucking in the sides.

Flip over.

Wipe your knife with a damp towel to prevent rice from sticking then slice in half.

Feel free to add some sesame seeds and teriyaki sauce to your liking! If you intend to store these in the refrigerator, you can wrap them in some cling wrap or place them in an air tight container to avoid them drying out.

Sushi Sandwiches (Onigirazu)

You can check out the video below on how to roll the maki.Prepare a bowl of water t dip your fingers. This is to prevent rice fro sticking to your fingers.

On a flat surface, place your bamboo mat. Place a sheet of nori.

Wet your hands. Thinly spread out rice. Leave at least a 1/2" border at the other end of the nori sheet.

Add in the fillings of choice.

Roll the nori sheet and tuck the filling with your fingers. Squeeze tightly together and roll another time, to seal the edges. Roll the finished maki into the bamboo mat again to make sure it's tightly packed.

Slice the whole maki into 8 pieces with a sharp knife. Wipe your knife with a damp towel to prevent rice from sticking.

How to Make Tofu Katsu Sushi Sandwiches and Rolls | Japanese Onigirazu and Maki | Easy and Vegan

Sushi rolls are delicious, but they can easily be made at home! Plus its super fun to see all the different roll combinations you can come up with. As with anything practice makes perfect, but the road to sushi roll making perfection is yummy all the way.

Easy Sushi Rolls

Nori, seaweed sheets,

sushi rice, rinsed until water is mostly clear

rice wine vinegar

mirin

sugar

Imitation Crab Sticks ("krab), cut in half longways

fish, salmon

smoked salmon, 1/2 "

cream cheese, 1/4 " slices

English cucumber, English cucumber, peeled and cut into 1/4" matchsticks

peeled,

red or yellow bell pepper,

jalapeno, seeds removed, and cut into 1/4 " slices

soy sauce, preferably Japanese Style - Shoyu

sesame seeds, white or black, for sprinkling

pickled ginger

bamboo rolling mat, covered

Place in a pot with 2 cups of water and the 2-inch piece of kombu if you have it. If not, it's okay.&nbsp;Bring the sushi rice up to a low boil, place the pot lid on and reduce the heat to low. Cook for 15 minutes. Then remove the pot from the heat and let stand for 10 minutes. Transfer to a glass bowl.&nbsp;Sushi rice should be slightly warm when making the sushi rolls.

While the rice is cooking prepare the ‘su’ or sushi rice seasoning. In a small bowl mix the mirin, rice wine vinegar, salt, and sugar together. Pop it in the microwave for 20-30 seconds to gently warm it and help the salt and sugar fully dissolve. Give it a good whisk. Pour over the rice when done, lightly tossing to coat.&nbsp; Let sit for 5 minutes to let it soak in. The rice is ready for the rolls.&nbsp;

Making The Sushi Rice

Place the nori sheet on the bamboo mat shiny side down, long side parallel to your&nbsp;body. With damp hands, scoop a handful&nbsp;of rice and gently spread the cooled rice in an even layer over the nori sheet, pressing lightly, leaving the top inch of the nori bare.&nbsp;

Sprinkle the rice with the toasted sesame seed.&nbsp; Lay the roll ingredients of your choice&nbsp;horizontally across the bottom third of the rice.&nbsp;Continue with rolling directions...

Directions For Maki-Style Sushi (Seaweed Outside/Rice Inside)

Place the nori sheet on the bamboo mat shiny side down, long side parallel to your body. Moisten your hands and scoop a handful of rice (here’s where that bowl of water comes in handy), onto the nori. Then gently spread and press the rice to spread on the nori evenly covering all the way to the edges.

Sprinkle the rice with sesame seeds and flip over.&nbsp;Take a “Krab” stick and lay it about ⅓ the way down on the nori sheet closest to you following with the avocado and cucumber. Continue with rolling directions...

Directions For Inside-Out Style Sushi (California Roll/Rice On Outside)

Using your fingers to hold in the ingredients to your front, start to bring up the bamboo mat, rolling the nori sheet away from you, tucking in the ingredients as you go. Lift the edge from under the roll as you go.&nbsp;With a gentle but firm hand, roll up the sushi making sure it’s tightly packed

Rolling The Sushi

Dipping a sharp knife in a bowl of water between slices, cut the sushi roll in half. Line those pieces up alongside each other and slice again. Do it twice more and you have evenly sliced sushi pieces.

Slicing The Sushi

To Plate and Serve, Transfer the roll to a plate and serve with Shoyu soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
