I never liked tuna melts until I tried this recipe! WOW it was phenomenal. one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. Will <strong>definitely</strong> be making this again, and soon!

Great recipe, but the bread did not toast or even get brown in the oven. After 10 minutes, I took it out and fried it on the stove.

I must admit that I was a bit wary of adding pickles and lemon juice (as well as pepper) into a tuna melt, but I thought I would try it once.  I did and I am very happy that I did.  It was delicious and I won't go back.

This is wonderful!! I cheat by using dill relish and freeze dried chopped red onions. As someone else has noted - be sure to preheat the pan in the oven if you want your bread nice and brown. Better yet - flip it halfway through. YUM!

The overall recipe was great, but the tuna was way too acidic. Between the lemon juice, pickles, and red pepper flakes, it was too much. I would definitely make it again, but with a different recipe for the tuna.

Delicious! I didn’t have celery so I used cucumber for the crunch. Muenster cheese instead of cheddar. 
The lemon juice really brightened this up! I’ll eat tuna any way but this really elevated it ❤️❤️

I totally recommend this recipe, wow! I found the sandwich toasts and melts much better if you only broil it and flip to after a minute or so, depending on your oven. I have a gas oven and I broiled the sandwich for 1 1/2 mins on each side. So yum!

The celery, pickle and onion hook this melt up with the perfect amount of crunch. Loved the addition of red pepper flakes which added a nice 
little kick. All in all this is one sexy sexy sandwich.

Delish! 😉 I made it my own a by adjusting just a tad. I did a little more tuna and a little less mayo. Didn’t use red pepper flakes. I also removed the seeds from the pickles and used 3 spears. After the 5 min baking, I broiled on each side to toast the bread a bit.

This Tuna Melt Is What We Crave When We Need Comfort Food

Tuna Melt is the ultimate sandwich with a flavorful tuna fish mixture, slices of cheddar cheese, freshly sliced tomatoes all melted together in a skillet on a thick, crispy golden bread. This sandwich will literally melt in your mouth!

Ultimate Tuna Melt

tuna fish, drained)

celery (finely chopped)

red onion (finely chopped)

Tablespoon dijon mustard

Tablespoons parsley (chopped)

salt and pepper

bread (I used French bread)

cheddar cheese (more

tomato (sliced)

butter (softened)

In a medium sized bowl combine the tuna, mayonnaise, celery, red onion, dijon mustard, parsley, salt and pepper.

Butter each slice of bread.  Putting the butter side down add the cheese on the unbuttered side.  Add the tuna mixture on top.  Top with tomato and additional cheese.

Preheat a skillet to medium heat.  Add the sandwich on the skillet and heat for about 2-3 minutes until cheese starts to melt and it is golden brown.  Flip to the other side and cook until the cheese is fully melted and sandwich is golden brown.

Skillet Method

Preheat a broiler.  Spread the bread butter side up and toast for a couple of minutes.  Top with cheese, tuna mixture and Broil for 2-3 miutes until cheese is melted.

This tuna melt recipe makes the BEST sandwich! Here's how to make this easy lunch or dinner that will make you melt in delight (don't forget napkins).

Classic Tuna Melt

white meat tuna

red onion

dill pickles

parsley (optional)

tarragon dill

Dijon mustard

salt

artisan bread

tomato (optional)

cheddar cheese

Drain the tuna. Place it in a bowl and use a fork to break apart any large clumps. Finely chop the red onion and dill pickles, and mince the parsley. Add the vegetables to the bowl with the tuna, along with the dried tarragon or dill, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard and salt. Stir to combine. 

Spread the outsides of the bread slices with mayonnaise or butter. Assemble the sandwiches: on each slice of bread (buttered side out) place the tuna salad filling, a tomato slice, and 2 slices of cheddar cheese, then top with the other slice of bread. 

Preheat a skillet over medium heat (cast iron works well if you have it). Cook the sandwich 2 to 3 minutes, then carefully flip and cook about 2 minutes more until browned and the cheese is melted. Serve immediately. 

Mix together the perfect tuna salad, add some yummy mozzarella, and grill this sandwich to make a tuna melt recipe you’ll come back to time and time again.

Tuna Melt Sandwich Recipe

onion, (chopped (about ½ cup))

celery stalk, (chopped (about ¼ cup))

garlic, (minced (or ½ teaspoon ready minced garlic))

parsley, (chopped)

olive oil, (divided)

½ cup mozzarella, (shredded)

salt and pepper, (to taste)

bread

Drain the water or oil from the tuna.

Place the tuna in a medium bowl and using a fork loosen it apart.

To the tuna bowl add the onion, celery, garlic, parsley, mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and mozzarella cheese. Stir to combine.

Salt and pepper to taste and mix again.

Place a nonstick skillet on the stove and add 1 tablespoon olive oil. Heat over medium heat.

Butter one side of a piece of bread and carefully place that slice butter side down into the now hot skillet.

Now spoon about 3 heaping tablespoons of tuna filling onto the slice of bread in the skillet, more or less depending on how thick you like your sandwiches.

Now take another slice of bread and butter one side. Place that slice of buttered bread on top of the sandwich in the skillet with the butter side up.

Watch for browning on the underside of the sandwich and grill until golden brown. Next flip the sandwich over and brown the other side.

Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel lined plate.

Mayo

In a small pot combine mayo, mustard, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, black pepper and cayenne pepper (optional).

Tuna Mayo

Add drained tuna to a mixing bowl then add in parsley, spring onion and your mayo mix. Use a fork to mix everything then place to one side.

Tuna Melt

Spread one side of each of your slices of bread with butter. Place 2-3 of them butter-side-down in a pan with the heat OFF. Add cheddar, followed by tuna, topped with tomato, then pickles and finish with mozzarella. Top with bread butter-side-up then turn heat to a low-medium and fry both sides until golden, with the cheese nice and gooey.

Serve

If you can only fit in 2 sandwiches, prep the third to one side as you fry the others. Slice in half, serve up and enjoy!
