Tuna Melts start with toasted English muffins and adds a simple creamy tuna mixture and lots of melty Cheddar!

Tuna Melts

English muffins, (split in half (or 4 slices of rye/sourdough bread))

unsalted butter, (optional)

(5 oz. EACH) tuna, (drained and flaked with a fork Note 1)

EACH: celery and flat-leaf parsley

EACH: bread & butter pickles and red onion

lemon juice

full-fat mayo

EACH: olive oil & Dijon mustard

(or Cheddar cheese

PREP: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

TUNA SALAD: Coarsely chop celery (into 2-inch pieces), rip off parsley from the bunch, coarsely chop the red onion. Now measure all these ingredients to get the correct quantities as listed in the recipe card and add everything to the food processor along with the drained pickles. Pulse to chop until finely chopped, about 20-30 seconds. Use a spoon to scrape down edges if needed and pulse again. Transfer to a bowl and add drained and flaked tuna, mayo, lemon, Dijon, olive oil, and salt &amp; pepper to taste (I add 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper.) Stir, adding more mayo if a creamier consistency is desired.

ENGLISH MUFFINS: If desired, butter and toast each English muffin (in the toaster or under the broiler). Remove and leave the oven on.

BAKE: Divide the tuna mixture evenly among each of the English muffins. Add a thin slice of Cheddar or a few tablespoons of grated cheese. Return to the oven and bake for 5 minutes or until cheese is nicely melted on top. Enjoy immediately!

Tuna Melt Sandwich

can tuna, drained (Wild Planet brand wild albacore tuna recommended)

mayonnaise

pickle spears, minced (see notes)

steak seasoning (see notes)

cheddar cheese

gluten free bread

butter

Preheat a large flat skillet or griddle over medium heat.

In a medium-sized bowl stir together tuna, mayonnaise, minced pickles, and steak seasoning. Butter one side of each slice of bread then flip two over and top each with half the tuna mixture. Add a slice of cheese then cover with remaining slices of buttered bread.

Place sandwiches onto preheated skillet or griddle then cook until golden brown. Flip then cook until the second side is golden brown and cheese is melted. Remove sandwiches to plates then slice and serve.

Air Fryer Tuna Melt

tuna (drained)

mayo

celery (small diced)

dill pickle

½ teaspoon smoked paprika

Preheat the air fryer to 385 F.

In a medium bowl, mix together the tuna, mayo, celery, dill pickle, paprika, salt and pepper; set aside.

Butter the bread, then place two slices butter side down into the hot air fryer.

Build the sandwiches by layering a slice of cheese on each slice of bread, followed by half the tuna salad mixture on each, followed by an additional slice of cheese, and finally the remaining slices of bread butter side up.

Air fry for 5 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until desired toastiness is achieved. 

Serve warm.

tuna (5 oz. drained)

celery (chopped)

sweet pickles (chopped)

cilantro (chopped. optional)

salt and pepper (to taste)

red pepper flakes (optional)

olive oil (or butter)

tomatoes and onions (sliced, optional.)

In a bowl, combine tuna, celery, pickles, cilantro, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes and mayonnaise.

Add juice from half a lemon and keep aside.

Add olive oil to a skillet and heat. Place a slice of bread in the skillet and cook  until golden brown.

Flip the slice of bread and place 2 American cheese slices on top. Cook until the cheese melts.

Place the bread on a plate and add the tuna mixture on top.

Add sliced tomatoes and onions on top (optional).

Place another slice of bread in the skillet and heat on both sides until golden brown. Cover the sandwich with the slice of bread.

Serve and enjoy :)

I used this recipe as a guide substituting water chestnuts for the celery, a whole green onion chopped fine in place of the onion, a little salt and lemon juice.  I also added some capers and was careful with the mayo as you suggested, it turned out nice.  thank you for your inspiration.
